Yesterday marked the start of the National Indoor Cricket Championships for the Men, Women and the Lord Taverners division. After day 1 of the tournament, there have been some very interesting results and some great matches.

NSW have been very impressive in the Open Men's comp with 2 wins while the ACT has also performed quite well with two wins also. NSW were the $2.50 favourite coming into the tournament. Queensland only just got over the line against WA while SA have been disappointing so far.

My home state (WA) have been good so far, defeating the Vics and going down by just 4 runs to the ever gallant Queenslanders. Not looking competitive in the LT and Open Women's competitions.

Note: NSW Men's 21's are competing in the Open Men's competition. Qld and NSW Women's 18's are participating in the Open Women's competition.

Here are the results from Day 1.

Open Men

ACT 147 (3) d SA 106 (1)
WA 106 (3) d Vic 99 (1)
NSW 154 (3) d NSW 21’s 109 (1)

Qld 162 (3) d NQ 152 (1)
SA 211 (4) d NSW 18’s 62 (0)

Lord Taverners

NSW 148 (3) d WA 48 (1)

Stay tuned for more results later today/early tomorrow.

The Vics losing both matches is a big surprise....and beating SA by 1 run is pretty ordinary!

WA must have improved a hell of a lot to get within 4 runs of QLD and beat Victoria.

The Vics getting to NSW at about 10pm Saturday night wasn't the best preperation....

Todays Mens Results:

VIC 139 (1) d SA 138 (3)
NSW 108 (3) d WA 71 (1)
QLD 138 (4) d NSW U21's 59 (0)

Why are NSW U21's playing? I gather they have taken Nth QLD and Tassies place??

WA's squad is kick-arse this year. I was speaking to one of the guys a few weeks ago and he reckons they have a realistic chance of winning the thing but looking at today's results, NSW are a lot better than anyone. But to get within 37 runs of NSW is a very good effort.

Qld have just dropped off it seems (highly unlike them), the Vics are no good and SA is very, very average.

Tasmania has only one centre now and Nth Queensland didn't enter a team. NSW had an under 21 side so they are entered in the Open Mens competition.

I played against WA in 2003 and they were pretty average then....

Good blokes tho....i gather Meretens doesn't play anymore? He was skipper back then. Had a few good nights out towards the end of the week as the tournament was at my home centre....

QLD usually come good when it counts. It really depends who is playing. A lot of people can't justify spending $1500 to compete in a week of indoor cricket...

WA were really bad last year. Many of the best players left because of conflict between the coaches and thy sent an unconpetitive.

No, he's not playing. This is the WA squad....

Nick de Grys
Ty Hopes
Ben Obrien
Justin Coetzee (Had a WACA contract last year)
Brett Wishart
Jarrod Daniels
Andrew Tye
Matt Cameron-Sims
Peter Lewis
Will Lanka
Kevin Johnson
Ryan Walton??

I've played against Brett Wishart. Very quick bowler and does some absolute freakish stuff sometimes. That's the guy who I was talking to.

Tim MacDonald isn't playing this year as he got a full-time contract with the Warriors.

Yeah, it's a shame the state associations/centres don't put more money to help the players go across. But, I'd take pride in representing my state.

Some just can't afford it or don't want to. It is getting pretty expensive now.

I'd say a bit of both. Queensland must not have a full strength squad or they are all playing really bad at the same time. SA must be a lot better this year.

Huge upset in the Prelim, go boys, we only lost to Queensland by 4 runs earlier in the week. Out in straight sets for NSW, they'd be shattered.

That's really bad for Victorian Indoor Cricket.

Yeah its not a good result at all....

It was a pretty weak Victorian squad this season. No Gray, Simpson, Johnson who are all Australian players takes a lot out of the team.

Well, it was a fantastic tournament this year. Some great skill level shown and some very memorable matches. Here's the results from Day 7

Day 7 Results

Open Mens

Grand Final: Qld 82 (3) d WA 79 (1)

Open Womens

Grand Final: Vic 137 (2) d Qld 129 (2)

Lord Taverners

Grand Final: Qld 171 (4) d NSW 0 (0)

Well done to Queensland for wnning the Lord Taverners and the Open Mens divisions and well done to Victoria who won the Open Womens division.

Bad luck to my boys, WA. Came so close and to get within 3 runs of winning the tournament was a huge acheievment. I'm sure they'll take a lot out of this years carnival.

So, another great tournament is complete. Only one tournament remaining now and that it to be held in my home state.

The National Indoor Cricket Masters Championships will run from 30th July to 5th of August at Ballajura Indoor Sports Centre, hope to see you all then.
