Got 26,000 members for the first time. With the new stadium to come and a team that with luck on the injury front should be up there for a few years yet, they may be a lot more viable than a lot of people (myslef incluced) thought.

Dogs hit 26,000

THE Western Bulldogs passed 26,000 members for the first time yesterday.

With the membership cut-off at 5pm yesterday, the Bulldogs scraped over the line with two minutes to spare to register 26,002 members for the 2006 season.

The club's on-field resurrection under coach Rodney Eade during the past two years has motivated Bulldogs fans, who historically have been at the bottom of the membership pile.

I reckon this thread sums up big footy and why there are so many negative threads, bagging other teams.

Post something positive and you get no replies to the thread, post something controversial or have a crack at something and the replies poor in. If I had made the thread about how 26,000 is still crap etc etc, it would be over 2 pages.

I guess you just got to give the people what they want....................

Just gotta hope they dont jump off again, the next time the Dogs dont make the finals in consecutive years.

This is partly due to the fact that you only posted an article most of us have already read, as opposed to asking a question or raising an issue. People mainly use these boards to get their opinions across, its far less tempting to read a thread where your only contribution is "thats good news" or something along those lines.

You'd know all about that

Yeah, if it's something positive people won't bother defending it.

Well Done Western Bulldogs. I am actually a 2006 Member, and they do have some great benefits that I have received, so don't stop and think about it. Join Up! :thumbsu:

Why are you supporting fellow Bulldogs supporters who dont buy membership when their club isnt playing well, and instead just jump on the bandwagon when they make the top eight? I wasnt even taking a stab at the supporters, just saying that sure, the membership has risen, but is this only because of the Bulldogs recent success? I dont really see how you could be offended by what I said. Some people on these boards are too sensitive.

At least our supporters can remember when we made the finals in consecutive years, tigger supporters would have to dig out the stone tablets to work out whenthey last did it.

You're an idiot, did you even read what I said? All people want to do on these boards is argue about who's club is best. Maybe they should make it 18 or over or something, although I wouldnt be suprised if half of the immaturity comes from fully grown men.

I agree tom, Blind Freddy could see you weren't having a dig at the Doggies' supporters.

All sides will have supporters who will go to more games if they are successful, even the ones with the most members...there is just a difference between the size of the supporter base for each club.

I think it's great for the Doggies, with all this talk of mergers, debts and sniping at having to prop up the smaller Melbourne clubs it is good to see the media has something positive to report about one of them.
Good on ya Doggies supporters! Hopefully can turn this current on-field success into something even more this year or in the next couple.

Yeah I know it happens to every club, which I dissaprove of, and that was the only point I was making.

What success? We haven't been successful for years. We didn't make the finals last year and there is a chance we won't this year.

I think a lot of people just love watching us play.

Exactly! We haven't made the finals since 2000. We were clearly the worst team in the comp in 2003 and amongst the worst in 2004. At round 16 last year we were 6-10 coming off 2 thrashings by Freo and the Crows. Not exactly the stuff that bandwagons are made of!!!

The Dogs play good footy, it is attacking hard and action packed. Get a couple of talls and you will be very hard to stop IMO. Injuries are always the wild card but it looks pretty good IMO.

I reckon you are another one to two years away from a serious push.

But the fact is tomthetiger is asking whether people are going to jump off the bandwagon when we stop being successful. But we haven't been since 2000.

Well done to the Bulldogs. Much respect for the way they go about their business, they have had no luck of late with respect to injuries
