South Africa are not up to it. In similar circumstances last Thursday, New Zealand struggled through and posted a winning total. As the summer has already shown, when confronted against Australia, they have no idea.

I think an Australia/New Zealand finals series would be the best one on offer; a genuine contest.

Yes, but don't forget that SA haven't had the luxury of Warne coming on and allowing them to score at 7 an over like the kiwis did!

Does anybody know if the match has been reduced due to the rain? It doesn't look like we'll need it, but you never know.....

no - its still 50 overs each with tea break from 6:45 till 7:30 i think. But it looks like Channel 9 can go to the news at 6pm cos Sth Africa will be gone by then.

What the hell has happened to SA?

Is it a bird, is it a plane? No, it's Andy Bichel! Looked like he was in slo-mo.:p

This is absolutely ridiculous. Of course the ACB couldn't have a final series without Australia participating.

Gibbs, Dippenaar, Rhodes, Pollock, Klusener = 0

C'mon SA :) :(

A quote from that magnificent wicketkeeper, Mark Boucher.

"We're the best one day team in the world."

Oh yes, Mark. You certainly look like it now. :o :D :p Also, Bluecrow, what was that about Pollock being a better captain than Steve Waugh? ;)

The Kaffa's are crumbling - pretenders of the highest order.

It was great to win so convincingly tonight & move off the bottom of the table. We appear to have regained our confidence & it was especially good to see Mark Waugh come out & put any doubters back in their place!! Nothing beats quality. :):):)

Very happy to see Kirsten score runs, (my trump player in my fantasy team) and also Ponting get some runs as well. :):):)

Blueworms,

I didn't think it counted for the finals series, just the preliminary matches.

Oh please Seindude.
That wasn't exactly a good innings by M.Waugh.He gave a fair few edges through slip & Rhodes shouldn't have dropped him on 22.

What a suprise to see S.Waugh give Junior a bowl
Don't bother wrapping up the innings earlier & cheaper with real bowlers

JubJub,

You have to have a bit of luck in your innings to get away to a good start and especially when conditions were difficult for batting, like they were today.

Great win by the Aussies!!!

Good to see that some of the players are getting back into some form.... and in regards to Mark Waugh, im sorry but i still dont think he shouldve been in the team tonight. Although he batted well he's been given a lot of chances by selectors to play well.... but full credit to him for actually scoring some runs

Oh yeah, he missed out in 3 games after averaging 80 and scoring 4 one-day hundreds last year.

Yeah, he should have been dropped.....

And now he gets a 50 unbeaten and your all still having a go.... I bet you would all be going on about how great he is if he was Victorian....

Mark Waugh's form over the last 12 months in ODIs should mean he is an instant inclusion in the side. His 133 last year against India and his 173 against the Windies are two of the best ODI innings I have seen.

Have a LOOK at how well M. Waugh has been going since January 2001....

I still dont think Australia is back in form.

The problem in the 1st few ODI matches was our batting under pressure.

Wheres there any prrof that our batting under pressure has settled and improved?

Our bowling was never the problem (Lee and Warne aside), so I'd read nothing into the Syndey match as to whether we are back in form or not, remember even with Ponting and Martyn making 190 between them we still only made 240 in Brisbane.

Other than that we have struggled to make 200 every match (unless only chasing 100 where there is absolutely no pressure, and even then we should have been at least 3 down)

How handy will that bonus point be! Could decide if we qualify for the finals or not.

Breidis, just how many chances should he have? He started the year just fine, but up till last night his last seven innings had seen him average just 20.71, and that's not good for an opening batsman. I agree that he should be given a couple of chances, but that's seven failures. Surely we are justified to question his form? Just because he might be a favourite of yours, don't become blind to the facts.................facts you, yourself, have presented here in stats.
I've got him in my fantasy team so I don't want him to fail, but if he has another couple of bad innings..................then he's GAWN!!

I was just about to reply to Breidis's post but you beat me to it ;)

I agree with everything you say, he's been given more chances than any other player and just because he scored a half century shouldnt mean anything just yet.....

And who cares if he's Victorian or not?? He's playing for Australia now not Victoria

If he was Victorian or from some other non NSW state he would have been dropped long ago so its a moot point...

Yay, I feel somewhat vindicated in my comments, however I'd rather not be.
