View Full Version : Is this draft really going to be a superdraft?
There seem to be an awful lot of not-quite-rights being rated in the top 30 or so by people here. Its reading more like 2002.

From the limited exposure I have had to this year crop I think compared to the previous three years this it is a standout. I know my club will delist alot of players this year to make room for a abundance of young talent. There are players on our list that are basically sacrificial lambs for this draft. Due to last years lack of depth there was no point delisting them for much of the same.

Marc Murphy won the Larke Medal last year averaging 21 possesions, Tom Hawkins went into his last match averaging about that with also 6 contested marks and 4-5 goals. This is just an example, the KPP players numbers are alot greater this year than Kennedys, Clark numbers, The ruckmens are better than Ryders as well, there is definitley a very strong 10-20 players in this draft.

While thats an exceptional performance, it doesn't say much for the quality of his opposition. I would think a close-fought competition would be more likely to offer a spread of quality players than one in which a couple of players dominate.

but the amount of people that stood out was high blokes like gibbs, gumbelton, hurley, hislop, jetta, proud, leunberger etc were a step above others which is a very good sign. Especially the KPP players getting so much of the ball when others have struggled to is very good.
I think the top 30 are a lot better than average drafts, but the depth beyond that isn't the same calibre as last years was IMO.

Whilst I always want Carlton to win everytime they run out, if we end up having 3 selections in the top 20, I won't be complaining.

i reckon the level of talent i saw out there last week is as good as any ive seen at an under 18's carnival since 92. that was the year that brought us the likes of voss, leppitsch, neitz, allan, gaspar, southern, mcmanus, richardson, ricciuto and they are just the ones i remember off the top of my head.
couldnt have been more impressed, and the big man talent is unbelievable. reckon the first two rounds are going to be loaded with future champs.

Average, overrated draft. Similar to 2003 - a good top 6 but then it falls away.
Or something alone those lines. Posted on the Richmond board.

Big call. 2004 was very strong. :)

Then again Carlton is poo and shouldn't be used as a starting point to judge.
the whole point is really this:
"what is a super-draft". the level of unrealistic expectations have been laughable.

Ultimately, I hope whoever Essendon use their pick on turns out to be a dud, and the rest of the top10 shine :D Now, that would be hilarious.
JK of course.
Yeah just like Richmond selecting Fiora over Pavlich.......Classic:)

lol yep. If we have to suffer it, why shouldn't you ?
Because one is hindsight, while the other is hoping a young player will fail? Seems pretty mean spirited.

Mark Bolton Buddie, we have suffer enough
