View Full Version : Ryan Jackson
Going by the Hearald sun today and what i've read it seem like he is going to be the player that is going to get elevated. for those who dont get to that many VFL games can ppl give us a quick run down on the player.
Stren. & Wea. etc
and what posi will he probally play if he did come into the team. Going back to draft camp people were saying that he was a player that could play all over the park. I also remeber one of his criticims was that he wont have a specific position at AFL level. Is this still the case or has he developed into anything specific

From what I've seen he also doesn't mind puting his body on the line. Maybe the uncertainty of what position he will play at AFL level really hurt his draft hopes. The guy can play and I would much rather see him come in for Murphy than a has been!
He can kick and mark quite well and also has fantastic endurance. The kid will make it, he trains his behind off and won't give up.

Sounds good, would like to see him play. I'm very pleased to see that more of our kids are having an impact.

Where would he fit into the seniors side? Would he play HBF, off a wing or up forward?!?

Agree with that. Sounds like we might just have "a good one" on our rookie list.

He is capable of all playing in any of those spots, but you'd think it would probably depend on match ups on the day. Odds are they would probably prefer to ease him into AFL footy off a Flank to begin with.

Absolute garbage HugeBluesFan. You have been barraging everyone and grandstanding about how we shouldnt be elevating rookies "until they are ready" despite everyone saying they are. NOW that yo find out that one is going to be elevated you just change your tune. Lemming.

Ive read around the traps from a few die hards that this bloke could be a take on a Murhpy-esque role. A lot to ask, and almost ridiculous considering Murphs impressive entrance into the big arena, waht are your thoughts on thsi possibility ?

1.
My hair dresser [straight not gay - not that there is anything wrong with that] knows the family and has watched Ryan in the U'18s and is a big wrap on him.
2.
Remember he was one most expected to go in the draft, so for CFC to get him as a rookie is a real bonus.
3.
I would be happy to see him elevated and given a go, from all accounts he is ''ready'' to be tested in AFL.
4.
At the end of the day [thanks G Ayers] though I have faith in our coaching panel to make the ''inside educated'' decisions.
5.
The current team balance is a pretty good blend of 'old and new'
A lot of good junior footy people were surprised he wasn't picked in the draft last year.. You would think that Wayne Hughes and the rest of the recruiting staff at Carlton, having 1st pick in the Rookie Draft, would have looked closely at his credentials before deciding to pick him at No 1. ie, they must have considered him the best of the "also run" bunch, having something going for him, and a chance to make it at some stage.
Some of his games, especially last week, were very impressive. But I have confidence in Dennis to "know" when he is ready, and then hopefully elevate him before the end of the year.

Maybe its just me, but Jackson reminds me a bit like a young slim kouta. He just has those skills in the pack. With a few more preseasons in the gym, could be a star.
Does anyone know how we picked him up (pre-season, rookie draft), and at what number?

So he was overlooked in the National Draft! Thats very suprising. I would have thought he might have been a round 3-4 pick? We got a real bargan.

Wasnt he injured ?i don't think so.
Wasnt he injured ?but then again he might have been.

Jackson broke his ankle in 2004 and he played 19 games last year.

Only from what I have read, his percieved lack of pace and not knowing what position he would play at afl level. I watched him last year at the Aust Champs and thought he showed a bit of promise, probably not an out and out athlete but has a good understanding of the game and what it takes.
All this is good....but he most important thing is that his fuken sexy
(see jacko, i posted that just for u buddy, now u owe me that beer :D )

i watched jackson play a few games in U18s, and have seen a few vfl matches, and he looks pretty good - not afraid to put his body on the line. He was a good pickup - there was talk of him getting picked up even in the 2004 draft as well as the 2005 last year, and to pick him up as a player that captained the nrthn knights, that did alright in the U18 championships, and one that showed potential at draft camp as a rookie is surprising, i thought he'd get drafted. He averaged like 23 possies a game in U18s which is pretty good and was in the best 12/19 times so he has some skill as well as good endurance and fitness - shown by his draft camp shuttle run and time trial results.

I've been saying this for a while now-Ryan Jackson will be a good player. I hope we will be able to see him in the seniors for a few games before the year is out, but if not, his position is definitely not in doubt. He most likely won't be promoted at the end of the season, but will at the end of next season unless something big happens. The reason why I say he won't be elevated at the end of this year is because the futures of Batson and Smith both need to be decided before Jacko's.
Jacko has very good endurance, and deceptive pace-whilst he is not the quickest out there, he certainly is not the slowest. His pace is what made recruiters shy away from him in the first place, but the problem is not so bad at all. Also has a lot of poise and has good skills and awareness.
Started off in the VFL reserves, but has finally made it into the Bullants senior side, and his last few games have been very good. As I said, hopefully he will be elevated onto the senior list before the end of the season so we can have a good look at him playing for the Blues.
Definitely has a future in the AFL and at Carlton. Definitely one to watch. :thumbsu:

Alot of annoying avatars on this site. Just disable them, makes it much easier.
Jackson has moved ahead of Flint in the past few weeks and is probably going to come into the side soonish.
Good to see Aisake playing VFL seniors last week and hopefully this week.
