View Full Version : Hard Nut or Ruckman

It's quite obvious that we will try and snare a Ruckman through the PSD. After watching the game on Saturday night I thought, maybe we would be well served to try and snare a real hard player to lift the intensity in our group. Every week I see us get mauled by more Physical teams. The Saints stole Hammil for this reason and even though he's been injured I think it has been successful.
I think we are all hoping the clubs targets Fabian Deluca, but if we had the choice what hard nut would you trade for or select in the PSD ?
E.g Beau Waters=PSD

Interesting one............I believe we need a young Ruckman more than a "hard nut" as you put it.
F.DeLuca, Meeson, Maric, Wood would all be possibilities via the PSD this year if they don't re-sign. Personally, I'd be happy with any of them.
I certainly wouldn't be trading away any draft poicks or our young players in search of a hard nut. I'd rather bide my time and wait for our younger players bodies to develop and maybe find our own hard nut.
Someone like Bentick, Hartlett, Kennedy and Bower to name a few may be able to fill that role in the next few years.
PS: I dont think the Saints stole Hamill...........the No.4 pick was more than adequate compensation, we just didn't utilise the pick as well as we might of!

We need another ruckman for sure but a physical pressence aswell as some true controlled agression to lead from the front would speed up our development. I know both Hartlett and Bower have been said to have had very agressive styles of play, but I think someone in the mid field of this nature is required. Carrots is the only one that springs to mind that has the makings. Bentick is tough at the ball but at the moment he is little mild mannered.
they are just as important to us
if you have a quality ruckmen then you can get away with not having a real tough nut
but if your ruckmen is strugging to break even then the need for a tough nut is essential
i wouldn't trade any picks until round 4 or 5 of the draft.
but the quality of the recycled player we pick up from giving away a round 4 or 5 pick, will probelrly not get us what we really need
then the quality that late in the draft drops off (yes there are some gems but there are some who just don't make it) so teams will be reluctant to trade a decent player for a round 4 or 5 pick.
i say we assess at season's end who is out of contract and then get the best available player.
if its a mifielder, then we hope our rucks can at least provide a 50/50 contest
if its a ruckmen. we hope our kids keep developing and with another pre season under their belt they are bigger and stronger and can cope better with the physical side of being a midfielder.

Whoosha loves this kid and unless you can muster a top 6 pick in THIS draft he isnt going any where soon.

It's quite obvious you don't know what "e.g" means, if you had a clue you would know it means example. He is a likely type, but if we gave up any draft pick for someone of his skill level I would be horrified. If you think he is worth No 6 in this years draft all that warm dusty W.A air must be making your brain swell.

Would be happy with either one of these guys. Saying that, we just have to take the best available in the PSD, with the likelihood of us having the second pick behind Essendon.
