mmmm Carlton expressing interest?
I think Fev's comments summed it up nicely in some respect...
But if we could get him cheap..? Or let the mercenary Stevens go where he wants and then have some money to pay for AKer he could be a good 2 year proposition to help train some of our kids.
To me it's 50/50 to get him...I think Aker has 3 good years left in him... plus he's got the positive attitude, skills and desire to prove himself to the AFL and to give Brisbane a kick in ar$e.
What does everyone else think?
Fev is spot on...........no way we should be trading anything for Akermanis.
If it was via the PSD for nothing, then you'd consider it, but its not, so good luck to whoever is willing to trade for him.

If we could get him via the PSD or a trade that suited us I would be for it. The guy has a mouth but I think at a new club he would want to prove something. As a trainer and player the guy is awesome, he would be fantastic for the young kids in this department.
I would prefer though to get a young Ruckman.

If we could get him in the PSD... maybe. But do we really someone around the place that could bring more bad publicity every time he opens his mouth? IMO it's the sort of thing the blues can live without at the moment.

I'm not sure he would bring Bad Press, I think at the moment he is fealing stail and frustated with a longtime troubled relationship with his coach. He would certainly create interest in our club and this could be used to our advantage sponsor wise. If he was approached by Pagan as a playing coach/mentor for the younger guys I think he would be fantastic. The relationship with him and Lions has been rocky for some time, when it's all said and done, he is very vocal and expresses his opinion but his dedication and ethics cannot be questioned.
Well lets not be afraid if Aker comes in and does speak his mind... usually some of the things he says is absolute BS and you know it.. but when he says something serious a lot of the times it is close to spot on...
Lets not be afraid of Aker coming into the team and pushing a few home truths to the Club and the supporters.
Look at Carey.... he did something far worse and unforgivable towards his teammates and every team in the comp. would've snapped him up... unfortunately he was not 100% up to it body-wise...
Whereas what has Aker really done? He speaks... well at least he can speak unlike some imbecilic footballers out there that when they talk you shudder (Everit, Holland, Crawford).
Aker is a good trainer, fast, great football brain... 3 time premiership player, brownlow medalist (in the era of Voss, Black, Lappin, Brown, Lynch)... if we can get him for cheap.. we should consider embracing it!
We are going to retire/delist a heck of a lot of players so we most likely will have room to add one seasoned class player.
Time will only tell what transpires.
Picking him up cheap could be rather hard when he has 1 year left on his contract. Brisbane in the box seat. Luck or well planned.

It's just so hard to imagine Aker at the Blues. Up north he is the face of AFL. - An absolute icon. I don't want him to leave Brisbane, but if he did, he would best serve the game in Sydney. They would appreciate him far more than any Victorian side. I just can't imagine a show pony like him playing in front of a neutral crowd.
Having said that, he is a gun player. He's won a Brownlow, should be a Hall of Famer, and best of all, he's still a match winner. I would love to have him at Carlton, but for me his addition would feel hollow, given my Queensland sentiments.

He will go to Sydney I believe..
We do not want him! We have just got rid of the undermining factors at the club.
Everyone thinks he is a tossa! His own team and coach included!
I would hate it to happen!

He's contracted so can't go in PSD. Only way he can go anywhere is by a trade- ands one that suits Lions.

Didn't look like he's still a match winner last week.

thanks for that. I weren't aware of it. Now that I know it I definitely don't want him. To get him we'd have to trade something pretty decent. A good pick and/or a good young player. We need both of these things more than we need a player with only a couple of years left in him... no matter how good he is.

NO! we do not want jason akermanis at carlton. To give brisbane what they want for him, we will probably have to relinquish a top 20 pick to them. In this years draft thats like a top 5 pick any other year. We cant give away extremely talented prospects who may provide 10 years of football for us, for a talent that is past his prime and will only kick on for another 3.
No deal! Plus id like to see him fiinish his career with brisbane, but thats looking less likely every week.
Trade Stevens for AKA and the Brisbane 2nd round pick?????

Don't be fooled Mathews wants Aker gone, and at pretty much any cost.
Aker will come to Melb, he has said that he wants to coach and this could be worked into his negoatiations for the medium term. As for doing a deal, although unlikely, I thought Brisbane can still delist him but would have to pay out the rest of his contract. Another scenario is if Aker actually quites the club and forfeits the rest of his contract. These both maybe possibilities. (correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not sure of the rules in such circumstances)
Just to quantify this post I am being Devils advocate, I don't necessarily support the idea as a whole, but I think our club should atleast look at it.
Trade Stevens for AKA and the Brisbane 2nd round pick?????
I don't think so JJ. I agree with Fev, no Aka at Carlton next year. Brisbane would want too much for him as he is still under contract, and considering the strength of this years draft, we'd have to pass up some good picks to get him.
Two factors too consider:
1/ Will Aker, combined with another dip into the National Draft assist in fast tracking the development of the other players:
ie
with Aker at Carlton, Stevens and Murphy will either still be tagged, or freed because Aker would get tagged.
2/ What must be sacrificed too get Aker.
Let's be honest... it would be damn exciting to have Aker running around in the Navy Blue!!!
If we didn't give up young blood for him, then absolutely it would be fantastic and something exciting to see him at Carlton.

You are joking, Stevens left port because he wanted to come back to melbourne, why would he now except a move to brisbane?
Akermanis.
COM'ON what are you people talking about. THINK. For gods sake THINK.
This is the blues, the carlton football club. We are not collingwood, we are not essendon and we will not stoop to taking on Aker. Where is our sense of shame for even mentioning it.
The guy is a tosser, end of story. If we took him on imagine the crap we would get. We dont need this *****e, Fev is SPOT ON. We have a team of FEVS, Murphs, blackwells, NOT akers, Judds and buckleys.
We are a hard working UNIT, not a one man show bought with a draft pick at the expense of the development we are meant to be doing. Cheap fix which wont work and will make the club look bad.
Leave this alone and eveyone get on board the idea of NOT SIGNING AKER.
Congratulations to Fevola, those comments prove that he has grown up, matured and is a future leader. Fev for captain after Lance. (Then Murph ;) )

I vote cyphers avatar for next carlton captain.

Why on earth would anyone even consider Aker playing for Carlton? The guy was a quality player, but the game has just about passed him by. He is a divisive influence and unless you could organise a very lucrative media deal for him, he would be extremely expensive. Recruiting Aker would be a step back to the late '90s, early '00s when we recruited recycled players instead of developing young blokes. He has nothing to offer the Carlton Football Club.

Definetly don't want him, even for cheap. Better to play a young player with a long future than a ~30 year old with a bad attitude (though I am a fan of Aker).

How did Prender reach 50 games?
how good are carlton going to be next year. Talk it up.
Big rumour of a trade between Melbourne (Brad Miller) who comes from Qld, and AKER. I know Melbourne was interested. Good player, but too disruptive, and a mouth, just don't want him at Carlton ,...Please!!!!
Richmond, Melbourne and Carlton have Ruled out akka, so that leaves, st.kilda.Essendon, w;bulldogs. Geelong, Hawthorn, collingwood, Kangaroos
if he left a few years back then yeah might been a differnt matter when he was younger

Age puts me off. Prefer to look in the draft despite skill brilliance.
Just thinking. If he called Matthews a f@ckwit who can't coach, imagine what he'll say about Pagan. He won't be able to help himself.

Trade Stevens for AKA and the Brisbane 2nd round pick?????The reason why Stevens is with Carlton is because he wanted to come back to Victoria, so he's hardly likely to go up to Brisbane.

If the Blues were making a serious tilt for the flag in 2007 we would seriously have to consider Aker. But we are way off any flag talk (even finals talk) next year and that should mean no Aker. Remember that Carlton's recycling of players was part of the reason we find ourselves in such a mess. We have to continue rebuilding.
