Just saw a news break on 10 saying Chocco has a go at the AFL and an ex-team mate, what is that all about?

The AFL has hit the Port Adelaide Football Club with a $5000 financial sanction for the actions of club runner David Arnfield during the round 13 match against Melbourne despite an impassioned defence from Port Adelaide coach, Mark Williams.

Williams defended Arnfield for the time he spent on the MCG at one stage of last Saturday's match and Williams believes Fox Footy Channel was 'mischievous' in having a camera follow Arnfield at the time.

He also has expressed surprise at commentator Tony Shaw's 'serial pest' criticism of Arnfield.

But in announcing Port Adelaide's fine, AFL football operations manager Adrian Anderson said it was unacceptable that Arnfield had interefered with play and breached the AFL Rules that runners can enter the field 'for the sole purpose of conferring briefly with the players of his club (and) .. must then immediately leave the playing surface'.

Separately, AFL Umpiring Director Jeff Gieschen has written to all clubs to remind them that any interference with play by a runner or official can result in a free kick being paid against a side.

Arnie was out there for a long time, interestingly, even a player (can't remember who) waved him away and motioned towards the bench.

Wonder if Choco will have a go at Brenton Phillips (he'd be an ex-Bad News Bears teammate)? I've heard Port aren't happy with Sturt's treatment of our players - 10 minute games for Deluca, Eckermann's form, Bentley's been dropped again, etc ...

Or Mickan for playing Willits down back ...

I think the footage that was shown of Arnfield indicated that at that point in the game he was not abiding by the guidelines:-

He had to duck to avoid a kick at one point of his lengthy stay in the middle.

Question:- Does Arnie pay the fine or the club? (Officially that is.)

Why do they feel compelled to comment on crap like this. Leave the commentary to the game. It almost sounded like Shaw had malice in his voice. I think he should keep it shut.

So every runner should of been fined on the weekend?

Arnie has form for this. Frankly his behaviour was just silly and IMO the fine is fair.
He is not alone in this, Essendon's runner John Barnes is another serial pest.

Arnie's just doing what he (and most other runners) has done for years........every now and again they get into trouble but it's nothing compared to other problems in the game/administration.
