POTY

5. Goodwin - superb effort from Goody today to end up dominating the game after being tagged out of it early. Must be racking up a few "Charlie" votes this year, and would be a deserved winner.

4. Ricciuto - Roo was a huge physical presence up forward today, and he and Hentschel gave us good targets all day despite Sydney's crowding techniques

3. Hentschel - along with Roo gave us leading targets that could mark overhead, on the chest or crumb it at ground level. Superb agility and recovery for a player of his size.

2. Doughty - in a game that was difficult for the on-baller due to the mass of players around the scrimmages, Doughty really stood up and gave Goody great support. Vastly improved player.

1. Johncock - terrible error early, but all is forgiven thanks to another hard at it, running game from Stiffy. Mops up the crumbs up back beautifully.

Apologies to McLeod, Biglands, Rutten, Bassett and Torney.

Best Team Man

3. Biglands - really liked his game today and his work rate at ground level and up forward was very good. A very big unit.

2. McLeod - very quiet early due to Roos' plan to run him around, but class will rise to the surface, and got plenty of it and used it well whetehr down back or up forward.

1. Rutten - I think Barry Hall hates him. :) Isn't it great to have a gorilla to play on a gorilla?? :thumbsu:

Rookie

2. - Maric - has a bit to learn at the ruck contests but worked well around the ground and at ground level. His stats don't tell it all as he spoilt Sydney several times by sticking a hand in here and a hand in there and deflected the ball to our advantage. coming along nicely.

Overall, it was a great test, which we passed with flying colours. Sydney gave it 100% and had really set themselves, but we answered the challenge like a good side should.

A very satisfying win. Next big test - West Coast in Perth.

Player of the Year

5. Simon Goodwin - Started off slowly but then just kicked into gear and played another very good game. He has been superb this year.

4. Trent Hentschel - This boy gets better and better every game. A VERY fine player indeed. FREAK!!!!!!

3. Mark Ricciuto - He gave us a real presence in the forward line especially in the first quarter. Just about the best he has moved this year. Should be in for a pretty good second half of the season.

2. Michael Doughty - This boy has come to play this year. He is having a career year. He was VERY good in 2002 but he is playing better this year.

1. Graham Johncock - Bit of an indifferent day. He made a couple of mistakes but overall he played another great game. Surely he would have to be an AA this year.

Best Team Man

3. Ben Rutten - A VERY smart game on Hall today. Push him wide and don't let him get into the hot spots. Thats why he is one of the best FBs in the AFL. He deserves to be AA again this year.

2. Robert Shirley - Pretty stiff not to be in the best players but this is the sort of game that suits him to a T. Great in and under, scrappy sort of game that set the tone in the center.

1. Michael Doughty - See above.

Rookie

2. Ivan Maric - Best game yet from big Ivan. I thought he might have been dropped for Clarke after last week but he repaid the faith showed by the selectors. He will be a VERY fine player for many years to come.

this is hard this week due to the game and the style played.

POTY
5 - Goodwin - started off slow but was tagging kirk and kirk was tagging him. Showed his class in close as normal. Will be interesting see if he does get votes from the umpires as previous seasons suggest that he does not poll to well with them.
4 - Hentschel - loved the little clip on the head he gave to burton in the last quarter :D His mobility is a real worry for the opposition and you could see that they were very conscious of him in the 2nd qtr.
3 - Doughty - played well all day and he is a real tough nut with great skill.
2 - Riccuito - presented well all day, just needed a little bit of luck to have a few more goals but was very willing to keep working.
1 - Shirley - in and under just how he likes it, was the highest clearance player on the day. (this was a tough one, apologies to rutten, johncock and biglands)

BTM
3 - Biglands - his ruck work was great today even if the umps had no idea about how to umpie ruck contests :P Then there is that little burst of speed and he hunted the ball around the packs once the contested ball was there to be won.
2 - Rutten - Great work on Hall to push him up the ground where he can do little damage to the scoreboard and his ability to make his opponents miss is a great talent. Watch what he does next time his opponent is having a set shot, I swear most of the time they miss is due to his little 'routine'.
1 - Johncock - seemed to start with a shocking day of bad luck but then it turned around for him. Not once did he drop his head but just kept on with his job.

Rookie
2 - Maric - another improvement from Ivan, which is all you can ask. As Craig says he really is not AFL ready but our needs are such that he is playing at the moment. You can see what he will be like and his desire to contest every ball is something that can not be taught.

A tough week to give votes - all played their part

POTY

5 - Simon Goodwin - I've run out of superlatives...:p

4 - Trent Hentschel - Is growing in confidence and is starting to show his smarts in terms of positioning his body in a contest against a stronger backman...well done

3 - Graham Johncock - The Firm One made up for some shocking errors early and resumed his "quarterback" role. Keeping Davis quiet and chipping in for a couple of "points" himself was icing on the cake....:p

2 - Michael Doughty - tough, uncomprimising, skillfull, hard at it..........who woulda thunk it ??....:o

1 - Mark Ricciuto - was shafted by the umpires early but his class kept him in the game long enough to do some damage.

Apols to about 5 others

BTM

3 - Ben Rutten - his work on "Bussling" was outstanding
2 - Jason Torney - always makes his team-mate's dodgy disposals and skill errors look not so bad by throwing himself at the contest
1 - Rob Shirley

ROTY
