Hawthorn has made two changes to its line up for Saturday’s match against Adelaide at AAMI Stadium.

Zac Dawson and Matt Ball come into the side for injured pair Joel Smith and Tim Clarke.

Smith injured his hamstring during the second quarter of Hawthorn’s match last Saturday and was sidelined for the remainder of the game as a precautionary measure. Clarke damaged a tendon in his foot at training and will miss the next 2-3 weeks.

It is a blow for Smith who has played all 14 games this season and was due to play his 200th AFL game on the weekend.

Ball comes into the side for the first time since Round 22 last year. He has performed solidly for Box Hill with average of 25 possessions per game.

Dawson returns to the senior side since Round 8.

The team

B: Brown, Roughead, Sewell
HB: Lewis, Murphy, Birchall
C: Ladson, Hodge, Miller
HF: Bateman, Croad, Dixon
F: Barker, Campbell, Williams
FOLL: Everitt, Mitchell, Vandenberg
I/C: Franklin, Young, Ball, Dawson
EMG: Ries, Kane, Brennan

Tim Clarke out - not good. Been very consistant this year.

Good to see Zac back :)

Ball has been doing all the right things at AFL level so this is his chance.

Porplyzia in for Hawks

Adelaide has made just one change to its 22 to play Hawthorn on Saturday, recalling Jason Porplyzia.

Porplyzia, a late withdrawal last weekend after failing to recover from a hip injury, returns at the expense of Hayden Skipworth.

Ruckman Matthew Clarke and Nathan Bock, who has not played a game this season because of a back problem, were named as emergencies with Skipworth.

Very pleased to see Matty Ball back in the side. I have been a fan since he was somewhat of a regular under Schwabby. Just hope Clarko gives him game time as in round 22 last year he was on the paddock for only a few minutes in the last quarter.

I admired Timmy Clarke in turning the corner to be now a valuable player after looking as though he was trade bait. I would love to see Matty emulate that.

I'm also a fan of his look-a-like bro, Luke, just imagine Matty becoming a star with us and convincing his baby bros to switch over to our club.

Before anyone says I'm dreaming, it's not that, I'm on my fourth stubby of XXXX here in the Mount Isa copper city. Could be something in the air.

For sure good to see Bally in. Is is a great VFL player, or a decent AFL player?

We are not playing finals. Just the same with Miller, we need them both to play for a solid 5 game block, give them decent gametime and start them on the field. Miller can either show weather he is one to trade/delist, and Ball needs to proove he is more valuable to Ries. Either Ries or Ball will be gone, maybe both?????

And to St.Kilda fans, would they be interested in Matthew joining his brother and joining the midfied. Harvey is almost gone, maybe he would slot in.

Its a shame to see Timmy out, his 4 quarter efforts are invaluble and inspiring. Like the above posts I hope Bally plays a ripper so I never need to see INS: RIES for the rest of my life.

I wouldnt be suprised if Crawf is injured with something else, unless he has sevre shin splints and with his deteriating age its troubling him.

Poor old Dawson. Every time Mission Impossible music starts playing, he gets put back on the side.

There's little chance that he'll be made to look good this weekend and then it may well be back to Box Hill.

He needs to be consistently played on all levels of opponents, not just against the best in the league to toughen him up!

Hope to see him in again against Rocca when we play Collingwood.

Im guessing you havent had shin soreness. I have them at the minute and it can definetly affect your performance. Its not a great injury to have, bloody hurts..

Rehab is not an exact science! Just because a player is expected to be back doesn't mean he will always get back.
I suffer from severe shin splints myself and some weekends it gets to the point where it feels like my legs are gonna snap off. The only way to fix this is rest, better to get them right than play below par in my opinion especially in the situation we are in.

In saying that I do have a feeling there is another injury in there as well troubling him!

Shin sorness caused by stress fractures in his shins

If you did your homework you may realise i'm very much a Hawthorn person,so i'm a little confused about the "gutless" call.If you feel like throwing sh1t my way,pm me.
You may be a fan of Dawson's work,i'm not. I'm not afraid to say that someone sucks in our team unlike the majority who seem to believe everythings ok.

There is a part of your profile where you name what team it is you support, use it.
I'm not afraid to payout on our players, see my posts about Bateman, Willo etc.
Dawson is a young backman still learning the game and when he was in he was playing on players that had more than 100 more games experience than him, so if you want to write him off, you do so at your own peril.
