Aussieisms in Pommie Soaps [Archive]

I'll admit it I watch some of the Pommie soaps on UK TV. Tonight managed to catch Emmerdale while waiting for Eastenders. Emily Symons (Marilyn from Home & Away) is in it playing a barmaid. What else. Her character was talking to a work mate about participating in a Karoake (?) night and said something like "no need to get the Colliwobbles about performing.....blah blah blah" whatever. I nearly choked on my red wine. Then thought "bloody hell even the Poms have heard of collingwood"

By the way Emmerdale is yurck but i could get hooked.

Aussieisms over here make me nautious. There is an automotive insurance company targetting women over here called "Sheila's Wheels" and it drops just about every Aussie stereotype imaginable in the 30 sec advertising shpeel including Joe from Neighbours (the one who was married to Lynn).

It is hideous. Bloody poms have no idea.

Yeah i watch em too - Emmerdale is growing on me now now i have got used to the characters ..

But Eastenders has gotten real boring lately - I tape it & fast-forward chunks of it (in particular scenes which feature Sonia who really gives me the ****s)

I wouldnt have predicted you mixing up Pakistan and India Dave. It was lame though.

Ditto on Sonia. I've sneaked a peak at the Eastenders website now and then, and some non boring stuff is coming up soon.
