Was Joel's hit intentional or not? IMO he gottta spray off plough and we all know sh1t runs down hill so he was just passing it on. Should we try to get him off or cop the week?

Anyone know his record, i cant remember him ever going to the tribunal?I've seem him do something similar in the past, thats why i think it was deliberate.Hope we fight it and he gets off, everyone else does.

From the AFL site (http://afl.com.au/default.asp?pg=news&spg=display&articleid=281677):

Bowden, who has never missed a game through suspension, was charged with a level three striking offence on Melbourne's Daniel Ward but can accept a one match ban because of his clean record.

The incident was assessed as reckless conduct (two points), medium impact (two points), in play (no points) and high contact (two points) - equating to 225 points and a two match ban, which reduces to 168.75 points and a one-match sanction because of his record.

An early plea would reduce the penalty to 126.56 points and a one-match sanction.
So taking the early plea reduces his penalty from 168.75 points (one game) to 126.56 points (one game). Seems like he has nothing to lose by contesting.

with his record they wouldn't give him a bigger suspension so were not risking much by contesting. its a very important game this week i think we will choose to contest.

Considering JB`s clean slate i would have thought a reprimand would be more in order

Glad we are contesting it .

Bowden to fight one-match ban
18 July 2006 Herald-Sun

RICHMOND defender Joel Bowden will contest a one-match striking ban at the AFL Tribunal tonight in a bid to play in Saturday night's vital clash with Sydney.

Bowden was charged with a level three striking offence yesterday against Melbourne's Daniel Ward during last Friday night's match at the MCG.

His five-year good record reduced the prospective sanction to one week.

He'll get off.

No way he and Mooney should have the same sentence, considering Mooney's record.

Mooney was as blatant as they come.

i reckon the tribunal will be tougher than normal this week coz of the Kerr fiasco last week. I say the one match ban will stand.

I think Tugga is right, cause of last week making the MC look like a joke and drawing blood, he will be out for at least one

From what I understand of this frawleyed up system, if he can get the charge downgraded from reckless conduct to negligent conduct he will drop below 100 points and get a reprimand.

You guys must think Cloke was stiff to miss the GF in 2002 then?

He missed the ball by 30cm, wreckless at best, how can he not get a week?

A few people on here need to open both eyes...

This won't faze him.
It's a good challenge for us to see how we can go without Bowden.
Someone needs to take his place one day so I hope someone stands up for the opportunity.

Good on ya, i like ur positive attitude. Bowden will be missed but all we can do about it now is focus on beating Sydney without him, which i believe we will do.

Having said that tho, who do ppl think will play his position this weekend?

Luke needs to add at least 5kg to his frame before he is even considered for AFL again. Will be a make or break pre-season for him.

I agree he needs to bulk up , but weight you can gain, skill you cant teach so easily...I like him and the way he plays. Hope he has a future with us.

Agree with TT that Hall will come in for Bowden and will take O'Loughlin while gaspar is a certainty to play on Hall. Also agree with Weaver in another post that the ground and matchups will suit Rodan. he's on the list for another year after this so we may as well use him when the situation favours it.

Different system now champ and looking at precedents set, getting a repremand was possible.
