Yes,
i actually agree MrBoy.
The cricket in particular. The most are great fans, but there are a few there that have the knives out after a few below-par performances.
They have become spoilt with success and can't take a few losses.
You can't expect them to win forever. Patience is a virtue. Hell, you have to learn it being a Collingwood fan! :D
Llyeton is a twat. Even when he is winning.

If he was Victorian you'd bag the crap out of him,but because he's from the Detention state,we aren't allowed to have a crack at him.

I hate the Australian cricket team even more when they're winning. They are insufferable.
Hopefully, this latest dip in their form might knock a bit of humility into them.
I don't see them as "tall poppies". I reckon they're just arrogant ill-mannered bastards .... just like LLLLLLLeyton.

I don't much like Lleyton, same as I don't much like McEnroe.......but McEnroe had a lot of fans for some reason.
Kevin Muscat is good by my money.
I don't like cricket, but if the Australian cricket team can keep winning, thats good....it keeps them out of the news more than if they're up and down all the time (for an example of this phenomenon, see Melbourne Football Club)

You've hit the nail pretty much on the head Alf. I've always though the tall poppy is a bit of a myth. Australians don't dislike successful people, we hate seeing arrogance and people who rub their success in others noses.
Anyone who is succesful and still maintains a bit of humility and that 'down to earth' quality doesn't suffer from tall poppy syndrome.

I think that the problem is that too much significance is placed on these sporting events, as if the well-being of the country depends on it, which is total crap. I can't stand how reporters writing in the newspapers write 'we' when referring to an Australian player or team. What the hell did they have to do with that side's performance?
If we were able to appreciate them as sporting contests and entertainment and not some sort of verification of a particular socio-economic system and national culture, we'd all be better off.
As much as I love cricket and other sports, it isn't that important in the greater scheme of things.
As for Steve Waugh and his whinging about media criticism, wasn't this the same person who has said on more then one occasion that he would back his side against any other side in history? He's set very high standards for himself and recently they haven't been reaching those high standards.
In anycase, the more praise and adulation you get from the media when you're successful (and that side has got plenty recently), the rougher its going to be when the side struggles.
australia are arrogant, arrogant is a word mixed with confidence.
but then again you would not know about the word confidence would you alf?

I originally liked Lleyton and have given him a lot of chances. I thought I'd been justified, but after his recent efforts I have little respect left for him, despite his amazing persistence and tenacity on the court.

Why is confidence seen as arrogance?? I dont see the Aussies as arrogant at all, more super confident in their own ability. There is nothing wrong with that in my opinion and I have full confidence that we will regain our form and once again, prove that we are the best cricket playing nation in the world!!

Thats garbage ! Essendon are victorian and I have nothing against them, Andrew Gaze is victorian and I like him, Shane Warne is victorian too and he is good. So thats not the reason ! More like if lleyton was victorian (poor guy if he was) you would probably like him !
