Why don't we have an OT sub board?
Many times people like to see other Port posters opinions on various subjects rather than BF as a whole, but we obviously have a no OT policy, so why not a sub board?

Yep me too. Personally I couldn't give two hoots about the rest of BF's opinions.

A number of posters probably think the same about Magpies news, cyber games or quiz nights.
They're all OT but have a place on this board as they are seeking input from "interested" people from this board.

When we asked everyone here at the beginning of the year what they would like to see on the Port board the overwhelming majority of regular posters here said (as they have also done in previous years I've been a mod here) stick to footy as there are many other boards on Bigfooty that cover other topics.
Now if the majority here have suddenly changed their opinion it's something we can look at when we review the year and look at doing from the end of this season.
Don't forget Bigfooty has many different boards covering many different topics/themes and we try to ensure subjects are kept to the most relevant board so the discussions don't get too insular and people interested in the topic will have little trouble finding and getting involved in those discussions.

Again the majority of people here wanted info about the Magpies as quite a few of us support both clubs.
Cyber games I presume relates to the Alberton Swamprats of which the side was formed by this board.
Quiz nights are run by the Port Adelaide Football Club so we're only promoting the club we support by having threads about them.
As I stated in the previous thread the overwhelming majority of posters here when asked at the beginning of each season what they wanted to see on this board was to stick to the footy and let other topcis be covered by the most appropriate board/s on Bigfooty. If the majority have changed their view on this we'll look at making changes at the end of the season.
Not trying to be a miser but I'm getting awfully sick of the bs around here lately and wonder if it's really worth putting the effort in any more given no matter what we do we cop it.

The only two people I recall being totally against OTs were Porthos and one other who's name totally escapes me atm (doesn't post as often as he once did).
I certainly do not recall a no OT policy or selective OT policy, however is there a reason why a sub board cannot be set up, it really is a very easy solution if there is no major BF red-tape involved.

I have no problems with discussing OT here as long as it just over take the footy talk.

It wasn't so much the ones that said they were totally against it but the majority saying we should stick to footy on this board.
To have an OT sub-board we would need to check with the bosses as they prefer people posting subjects on the relevant boards that are already here instead of having insular little communities..........but before we do that lets hear the opinion of the Port posters here to see what they say.

Can someone define at least what is, and isn't, OT? Is it OT when threads start about the level, consistency etc of moderation on the board? Technically it's not directly related to the PAFC but the board itself so is that OT?
Not having a go at the mods here by any stretch, just wondering what a reasonable definition of what's allowed is? I must have slept through the debate over it earlier in the year.

Other topic means as you said not related to the PAFC or the Port board itself on Bigfooty without getting technical at all.

There is BF red tape. The bosses have to approve of it. As DK said, they prefer site wide discussion than insular discussions but if enough people want a 'social club' board or whatever then we'll see what they say.

Please do Macca. I remember both you and DK thinking along the same lines as myself and most others, and that is along the lines of as long as there aren't too many then it's fine.
There really aren't and have never been that many OT threads on this board, but nowadays it seems to have become a delete at all cost type policy. That in itself can make the board very insular.

I don't see the need for an OT sub-board. I think we strike a good balance here (at this board and across BF as a whole). There are boards for almost everything and I don't think anyone really minds an OCCASIONAL OT thread for just Port supporters opinions.
If we get one once a month or so during the season and a bit more off-season it's a 'blah' to me. It's only if we suddenly got a lot of them cluttering the board I'd feel we were going off-track.

I think most on here would agree with you Andre, and that is pretty well what seemed to have been decided over Christmas (including the no need to label them as OTs) when OT threads caused a bit of debate, but since it appears that OTs are now a no-go zone perhaps we do need a sub board after all.

I think the occasional OT is not the end of the world so to speak but this makes it hard for the mods. Which ones are OK? How many is too many? It's all subjective. If someone put an OT thread that was left here and then I put one up and it is moved or deleted do I then get upset about it? It's likely that we will see "oh well you let so and so have their OT then I can't have mine". It's just asking for trouble I reckon. If it is not a subject that can be (however tenuously ;)) linked to PAFC then it shouldn't be here IMO. A sub-board would seem the best solution, if people really want one considering the range of boards already avail on BF

We've had the odd OT thread on here that the mods have allowed to run their course, e.g. some discussion about the soccer World Cup, a couple of others too. I think we have about the right balance with >98% football related discussion. I sometimes wonder about the amount of personal stuff that appears but don't care enough to take issue with it. Besides, I've come to know some people here in a cyberspace way and have a few jokes myself. The board's been pretty good this year IMO and we've had some high level discussion on such things as tactics, drafting, football politics and history that have been really informative to me.
You can't have perfection so I think things are about as good as one could hope for.
