I know this is a bit late, but did anyone notice that against the Dees last Friday the umps were allowing players to run with their backs to the ball in flight, and in theory charge at the player facing the on coming ball and waiting to mark?

Or were the pre-match beers kicking in?

Cheers Guys

I remember the sandwich Richo suffered during the last quarter and was thinking why was that not a free?

You can run straight at a player with your back to the ball and attempt to place your hands in front of the opponents hands to spoil, you have caused no infringement to the player by doing that but if the player with the back to the ball knocks the player at any time it should be awarded a free kick.

I have often wondered why players dont protect themselkves in marking contests by outting a leg of at least a knee out front. That was part of basic footy skills when I was taught and seems an obvious solution to what would have been classed as "chargin the man" situations in the good old days. Is there anything preventing a player protecting himself with his legs in a marking contest? It would stop all this running with the flight of the ball spoiling crap.
