How could they possibly give it to a guy who only played 11 games. Sure they were good games but they cant give it to someone who played 11 good ones when other guys 22 good ones.

It could very easily go to Murphy, and most probably will.

You see, it's a subjective judgement made by analysts who don't want to look stupid in two or three years time when their choice ends up playing for Wangaratta Rovers.

Marc Murphy is probably the choice that is least likely to make them look silly.

How many of the others have (or will have) played 22 good ones?

Polo's game against the Swans was only his 11th game this season - even with Murphy.

11 Murphy games vs 17 Polo ones? Close call really.

Heard Kingy on the radio cringing at the pinheaded judges intent on awarding the Rising star to the No 1 draft pick each year, pleading for a little more broard thinking in their assesment which would bring a defender into calculations V a midfielder...I sensed that judges are coming around to that line of thinking:thumbsu:

Deledio is the only number 1 draft pick to go on and win the Rising Star in his first season. Riewoldt is the only other number 1 to win it, but he did it in his second year.

I hope Polo or Raines gets it but Brad Symes from Port would have to be a serious contender.

Is Lynden Dunn from Melbourne eligible to be nominated? If so, he's been stiff not to be so far.

Might throw $50 on Polo, even on Saturday night he looked like he belongs at senior level.. He's a chance I reckon..

Poor Rainesy was never going to do well on O'Loughlin, what a terrible matchup.

yep nick holland was a safe bet untill he got injured.

stille think polo or raines will win it. they have preformed solidly over the year and both look to be future stars of the game/richmond.

Dont want to burst the bubble... but to be honest, as much as l love both Polo and Raines, dont think their efforts warrant being the Risin Star winner.

Murphy although injured was above these two and the rest of the nominees in my opinion, so regardless of how many each of them played... AT THIS POINT IN TIME, its Murphy in my opinion.

Lets hopw that Polo and Raines pull out some blinders to changed my decision. :thumbsu:

Pearce had a fair year, Symes 33 touches 17marks a cracker on the weekend
Raines got towelled up by Micky O, Polo needs a neck

And Polo got towelled up by Goodes also, in fcat they were both part of a team that got pretty towelled up all round! All part of a kid's development and you expect even a Rising Star to lower their colours at least a few times in season one.

:) HOW many has Rischitelli played? Things he is a good chance and a t good odds ($16). Seems to play well every time I watch the Lions!:)

For what it's worth they asked David Parkin on Fox Footy a couple of weeks ago and he had Raines as his winner. Gonna be a hard ask i reckon, but with people having different opinions, should be close. No real clear winner in other words.

Anyone know who the panel of judges is?

Last year is was Andrew Demetriou, Adrian Anderson, Rod Austin, Kevin Bartlett, Neil Kerley, Chris Mainwaring, Gerard Healy, Robert Walls and Kevin Sheehan. I imagine it will be the same crew again.

Well Murphy should get it with Walls and Austin on the panel.
Wait and see i guess.

Do the public get to see the rundown of who voted for who?

Yep, it's all made public. KB gave Lids five votes last year and only gave Griffen one or he might have left him out altogether.

Polo didn't get towelled up by Goodes at all
From memory, Goodes had 18 disposals and a goal, Polo 15 and a goal, pretty break even from what I can see

raines was played out of position with JB being out of the side, with Bowdo back he will assume a more standard HBF role allow a bit more freedom to run than he had last week on Micky O.....dont let that performance fool ya:eek:

Well IMHO he did. I dont think Polo was anywhere near as effective despite the numbers. I actually thought Goodes was the difference when if was there to be won. But IMHO as I say.

Polo only got 10 touches, not 15 as was hinted at before. I thought he got more than that and couldn't believe the stats when I saw them. To me, they were 10 good touches. I don't think he got towelled up by Goodes at all, but certainly got beaten. He's only played 11 games of league footy. pretty good for a kid who was playing Coburg ressies for the first half of 2005.

Dont get me wrong, I wasnt knocking the kid in any way , I was actually defending him in saying that every kid is gonna get beaten and its part of their learning curve. Goodes has beaten many a more seasoned campaigner than Dean Polo. He kinda seems to enjoy playing against us, I suppose as we have no real match up for him. His goal outta the centre bounce was bloody impressive. I think Raines did much better on Mickey O who really did much of his damage on the rebound and/or after the game was basically won.

If Polo only got 10 then Goodes didn't get as many as I recall either
I know there was only about 3-5 disposals the difference
