Drummo and Crackers.

Drummonds ability to hit a long-range target quickly from the kick ins, and roost a bullet pass inside fwd50m are just priceless. Awesome to have him back finally, fk he's good.

Crackers, pardon did u miss the first 15 games? Didnt look like it, took a couple of great marks and dominated the ruck all night (albeit with Spider out), will be interesting to see what the club does with him at season's end.

And obviously short term, was good to have Fixter and Roe back in the side, loving Fixter's pressure at the contest, ala Fly and Harty.

Just need Jed and Browny to get a few games under their belts now, and we'll be right to storm into 2007 :D

Good post and it also raises the issue of the future for Keating. I was convinced that we had seen the last of him but tonight I have not only turned away from that conviction but think we may be a bit premature to not give him another year or two. Charmo has been an absolute pivotal player. Tonight playing him as FF/CHF was a master stroke and made him beyond important. Almost irreplacable. If I had any criticism is that he and Danny were sometimes not aware of where each other was. But if this combination was in place for the rest of the season I have no doubt that they would aclimatise to each other very quickly. If Beau was fit would we play both he and Crackers in the ruck and play Charmo up forward with both Jon Brown and Bradshaw? If this combo could be in place for next year and leading into the year after we could go into this years draft looking at key defenders and midfielders. Thoughts?

Don't forget the influence of Charmo in the forward line.

Finally, we did what I have always wanted to see happen...A genuine Ruckman (Crackers) belting it forward and the other Ruck, Charman having an influence on the ground up forward instead of walking up and down the sidelline drinking cups of water or testing out the exercise bike.

Charman is a really likely type as a forward target and tonight proved it.

Well done Leigh and well done Lions.:thumbsu:

no we could never fit Charmo, Beau, Browny, Braddy and Crackers in the same team, it way too top heavy for todays game. But i like the idea of a ruckman resting in the goalsquare, specially if we are missing a key forward.

Couldn't agree more.

Charman is almost "Brown-like" in his fearless approach to the ball.

Keating and Beau as dual rucks and Bradshaw, Brown and Charmo as forward targets....throw in Hooper sniffing around for the crumbs and/or chasing down and tackling the living suicase out of defenders, Brennan around the half-forward flank/wing and the likes of Moody and Sherman with the capabilty to pot running shots at gaol from 50 and ......:D .I'm excited

I'd definatly be willing to give it a try John.
The big 'if' however is if whether or not we can keep all of the big man out on the park at the same time.If so I have always liked Charman's presence in front of the sticks-provides a target and is a dead eye **** for a big bloke.

Crackers contract runs out this season.
I heard him interviewed after the game, he has put on 4.5kgs in the last couple of months, with the belief he needed to muscle up to compete in the ruck.
He basically stated that he knows he is playing for his career in the remainder of this season but is very keen to continue with the Lions next season.

I wonder how this affects Daniel Merrett...........

he's 5th in line atm.
Charmo, Crackers, Beau, Woody, Merrett.

If he wants to keep his place on the list he is goin to have to succeed at another position.

I was thinking exactly the same thing myself. The advantages of this are:

1. If Charman is up forward and one of the ruckmen go down, then Charman can cover.

2. It allows Bradshaw to go back while still having a potent forward line.

3. Keating and McDonald are quality ruckmen.

The disadvantage is that we become top heavy and you have one less runner in the side. What do you do with players like Brennan and Drummond? It's a tough one, but the reality is that big men tend to get injured so having them all available will be a bit of a rarity.

To answer your question I thought Charman was terrific at FF, but I would only play him there when Brown is injured, or if Bradshaw was moved back into defence (which would be hard to do considering how well he's playing as a forward).

Having that extra option is excellent though. It gives me a lot of confidence that we can win games when Brown is injured.

A key statement. My scenario is based on all being fit anyway. It would never happen would it? :(

I don't know. Charman reminded me a lot of Lynch. He didn't even have to get the ball because his ability to crash the packs was freeing up all the other forwards. I was genuinely very impressed, and it showed me how far behind Merrett is.

Another problem is that Brown is now playing full forward so essentially they would be playing the same role, whereas Bradshaw is a very different sort of player.

We've only had a day to think about it, but his performance was good enough that I think we should seriously look into finding a way to make this work.

Great game by Clark last night but let's not jump the gun. IMO Beau is still the better option of the two. We can't play the three big men all in the one side as we would definitely be top - heavy. The forgotten man is Mitch Clark. He hopefully is a 10 year player, who will be our next floating CHF/forward ruckmen. If Woody stays then I think Keating will go. I don't think he will be guaranteed much playing time next year unless we have a spate of injuries  (Could play 22 games!!) We all heard his comments last night about his future and bearing that in mind I wouldn't be suprised to see him end up at another club next year. Can you imagine what the Bulldogs would give to have a player of his ilk in their line-up at the moment.

Speaking of last night, I thought it was a great game by Mal considering the happenings of the past week. With all he has been through over the past months his efforts have been absolutely fantastic - although we have come to expect that.

He'd have to traded as he's contracted next year.

Charmo is having an AA standard year IMO. The problem is that so are a couple of other ruckmen in the league. Having said that, if he can continue to push forward as well as contribute in the ruck, then he'd have to be a chance at a bench spot.

agreed the AA ruck posi is going to be a touch choice this year...
Im biased of course but his around the ground work has been second to none this year, and his tap work has been better than fair too.

good comment, Mal has never let the side down, absolute team man and champion of the club, will be irreplaceable if and when he decides enough is enough.
