Aussie Mark Vos, yes the same Mark Vos I created a wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Vos) page for, is chip leade with 78000 and second is back on 35500. That's some great start! I predict he'll cash easily.

Mark Vos is now sitting with $78,000 in chips, and Norm MacDonald, to his right, is now only sitting with $15,000. Vos took an enormous pot off of MacDonald when Mark cracked Norm's Aces with Q-J, making two pair.

Guess it will have to be Gus.

Negreanu has reported on his video blog (http://www.fullcontactpoker.com/video_diary/) that he has to skip the WSOP main event due to a schedule conflict.

Clonie Gowen, the fish, very ****able though, is out. She obviously had to wash her hair or something and didn't have time for this poker thing.

And check this crap out:

Jack Mahalingam is all-in for $5,000 and is called an opponent in late position. Mahalingam shows 8s8c and his opponent has 5h5c. The flop is 6s5s5d and his opponent flops quads. The turn is a 9s giving Mahalingam a gut-shot straight flush draw (his only way to win). The river is the 7s giving Mahalingam the straight flush and taking the hand.

You're obviously a very busy man with a long attention span. On other news, Mark Vos reports on his hand against the idiot Norm MacDonald (the "actor/comedian"):

Hand with Norm was sick. I was in the BB with QJs, he made it 800 @ 100/200 blinds and I called. Flop QJ9 with 2 diamonds. I checked he bet 1500, I made it 4000, he went all in for 47,000. I thought for a bit and called for 33,000 more. He was chip leader at that point and I was around 3rd in chips. Insane, thankfully board blanked.

He had 33000 and had to call a mere 800 against a stupid actor/comedian, easy call. And donk Norm was eliminated soon after. Too many idiots at the WSOP that double up with a suckout then get eliminated within a few hands. Some of these morons think it's a race.

red+black
29 Jul 2006, 12:25
This would have been nice (from earlier):

On a board showing KdJd10d Ad 8c, Mike Sorrentino bets $2,000 and Ben Roberts takes some time before mucking his hand. Sorrentino opts to show his hand, AsQd, which gave him the royal flush. Sorrentino's stack is now up to $35,500.

Action Man eliminated by the Ambassador:

Dan Harrington is eliminated from today's event. He was greeted by a round of applause as he stood up and walked away from his table. Mike Sexton's QhQc beats Harrington's Jh7h when the board brings four hearts.

Would be nice if there was more detail as to how the hand played out. I assume all the money was in by the turn and Dan got rivered.

I'm a long way off feeling confident being either of these players and making the plays they do:

Under the gun, Michael Mizrachi raises to $600 and is called by both the 2 and 3 seats. The flop comes Jc10c8s,"The Grinder" checks, the 2 seat bets $1,000 and the 3 seat calls. Mizrachi then raises to $3500 total, and only the 2 seat calls. The turn is the Jh and Mizrachi leads out with $2,500. The 3 seat raises it up to $5,000 and "The Grinder" calls. The river is the Ad and both players check. Mizrachi shows Qd8c and seat 3 shows 9d9c, which is good enough to take out Mizrachi's pair of 8's. Currently Mizrachi has $13,000.

An annoying or great chop, depending which point of view you take:

Seat one raises to $1,500 in early position. Seat 10 calls from middle position and Russ Boyd goes all-in for $11,600 from the big blind. One player calls and shows AsKd. Boyd has Qd10h. The board comes Kc10c7c6c2c. Boyd and his opponent chop the pot. He's now at $12,700.

Imagine having 5c4c and the board shows Kc7c6cAcJs and you split it. That would be annoying.

A lot of players would not think this through as this guy did, but it's good thinking. With an Ace in hand, the only other hand you could be worried about is TT, and you'd have to decide whether the hand played out as if someone had pockets. If there was a raise preflop, then it should be safe to assume no one has the 2s, unless the BB decided to close the betting with 5s2s, 4s2s or 3s2s (which some players might be willing to play).

After one player raises $6,000 on a board of 2h2d2c As 10h, another player mulls it over for a long time before calling. After calling the player shows Ah3h, while the other player shows the Ac to split the pot. After the hand is over, the player says to Greg Raymer, who is sitting next to him, that the only hand he would have believed his opponent could have to beat him would be As2s because "you can't play A-2 offsuit." Since the As was already on the table, he was sure she didn't have it. Raymer laughs and says, "There's no sure thing in poker."

Crosby87
31 Jul 2006, 23:25
No, I'm pretty confident he doesn't have a two there. I would have called instantly. It's easy to say that, but I would have. Depends on position and pre-flop action, though.

You're in hijack or the cutoff, and its folded around to you. You look down at A6o. With blinds at 200/400, do you push like this or wait?

Johnny Chan Eliminated

On the last hand before the break, Johnny Chan moves all-in for $1,650 in late position. Seat 9 calls from the button. In the small blind, seat 10 re-raises $4,500 more. After some thought, seat 9 folds. Seat 10 shows JdJs. Johnny Chan has Ad6c. The flop comes KsQsTd. The turn is the 5c and the river is the 3h. Johnny Chan is eliminated from the main event.

This ****ing sucks, but's it's nice to hear some stories of Aces actually holding up.

Haber Eliminated
On a flop of A-K-7, Eric Haber and Paul Andrzejewski get all-in. Haber shows K-K and Andrzejewski shows A-A. Haber is eliminated from the main event after the turn and river bring blanks. Andrzejewski has $100,000.

Plenty of the big stars are goooooone.
Big stars have little chance of winning anyway.

Australia's leading playing slept in and arrived just 15 minutes before the first break. It looks like that might have cost him a quarter of his $85000 stack  It currently costs $1650 per round of the table, and 12 missed rounds would cost you $20,000. But he couldn't have lost that much in 105 minutes so I assume he's also taken a hit or two.

The chip leader is on $212,000.

David Williams, Barry Greenstein, John Juanda, Mike Caro out

Announcements:
- 270 of the 8,773 entrants were female (3.1% of the field) (I reckon that's low)
- 1st prize > $12 million
- top 12 payouts > $1 million.

Chris Ferguson's table has just broke and he has been moved to seat 4 at table 125. Mark Vos is sitting directly to Ferguson's left in seat 5 with $81,000. Ferguson sits on $81,000 as well.

This sucks. Love Jesus, but want Mark to do well.

Vos Makes a Big Laydown Against "Jesus"

Chris "Jesus" Ferguson raises preflop and Mark Vos calls. The flop comes AdJsTs and Ferguson checks. Vos bets $13,000 and Ferguson calls. The turn puts the Jd on the board and Ferguson again checks. Vos bets $15,000 and Ferguson again calls. The river brings the 5s and Ferguson pushes all-in for his remaining $20,000. After thinking for around 3 minutes, Vos shows the Jc and folds his hand. Ferguson now sits with $90,000, while Vos is down to $57,000.

NB: Blinds at 400/800 with 100 ante.

What do you think Chris had? Flopped straight? Rivered flush? Turned boat?

An unknown will win it. Might not be a "donk", but he'll be unknown like Hachem.

I can't see a known pro winning. I'd say at least 1-2 will make the final table, like last year.

What was the raise pre-flop ?
Chris raised to 3k. Someone over at PNW guessed Jesus has 10s, but I was thinking about the hand over lunch, and I'm not convinced that Mark was beat. I think Chris made a play and knew that Mark was good enough to lay it down.

EDIT: Chris has revealed the hand he had.

Jesus must have had QK.
I can't believe a player of his ability would call on the flop looking for a flush with the odds available and do it again on the turn. Therefore he must have flopped the straight.

That said, laying down trip Js when you are getting 7/2 for your money is a bit strange as well.

Crosby87
2 Aug 2006, 13:59
I would have folded. Jesus called the flop and turn. Do you really think he didn't flop a monster? Why would he check/call the flop after raising, then call the turn, and move all-in on the river?

I doubt he had the flush, but I also think he didn't put Mark on it. He could have been making a play, but I don't think Jesus would risk all his chips on the river to a guy firing both streets. I think he trapped him.

But who knows. He could have bluffed him out of it.

The final straw in a truly ****ly organised WSOP: the all-in chip

http://www.fulltiltpoker.com/poker-blog/2006/07/a_truly_stupid_idea.php

There have been no shortage of problems at this year’s WSOP. Most difficulties stemmed from poor planning; other cropped up because the staff had little experience. But in the Main Event, the tournament organizers put their heads together and came up with an incredibly stupid idea: The All In Chip.

I guess it was conceived as a time-saving device. Rather than take the four seconds that’s required to push a stack toward the pot, a player can simply flip out the All In Chip. This chip is the same shape and size as any other poker chip. The only difference is that it’s blue, which doesn’t match the shade of any of the other chips.

You see the potential problem? I thought you might.

Yesterday, a player who was using the All In Chip as his card marker accidentally pushed the chip forward as he attempted to muck his cards. The dealer declared him all-in, and he was called. His opponent had Aces, and he busted from the tournament, having inadvertently put his 16k stack at risk with 9-5 off-suit.

When told about the incident, Howard Lederer said, “the first thing I did was throw that thing on the floor. Last I saw it was sitting under my chair.”

Danneman got roughly $4.5m last year for 2nd, minus taxes and the fact that he split it 50-50, he only ended (i dont mean ONLY but u know wat im saying) roughly $1.8m of his magnificent $4.5m cheque.

Crosby87
2 Aug 2006, 17:11
If it's the 2nd nuts, I would say A-A, which was part of my initial thinking. So Chris raises with A-A, he hits a third Ace, and checks. He sets the trap, and the J falls on the turn, which is why he doesn't raise, as his hand improves. He moves in on the river as he knows if he checks, and Mark is scared of the spade, he'll check behind.

Indeed (http://www.fulltiltpoker.com/poker-blog/2006/08/hand_of_the_tournament_thus_far.php), which probably proves how good a player Mark is. A lesser player would have called. But was Jesus trying to humiliate him by pushing? He must have expected a call.

Yeah i couldnt have seen a pro like him call to the river like that for a flush. Also very hard to lay down the 3 jacks!

The all in chip?! Thats disgraceful. If they don't want to push their stack in the middle they can just verbally declare their "all in"
