A couple of years ago the character Paul from Neighbours was drafted to the Adelaide Crows.
I don't know if anyone remembers, it was a dramatic episode. Paul had starred all year for the Erinsborough Dingoes despite clearly not being able to kick a football, and expected Collingwood to draft him.
When the Pies passed on him with their final pick he, Harold and all the others watching the draft on TV from Lassiters that day were distraught. But then the Crows grabbed him with the very last pick in the draft, the Adelaide recruiting manager hopeful he would be the best late pick-up since Graham Johncock.
Haven't heard a thing about him since, just wondering what's going on over there? Is he starting to come on a bit in the SANFL? Is he possible trade bait? Or delisting material come the end of the season?
I often wonder what has become of him because the Dingoes just haven't been the same since.

We ended up trading him to a smaller drama series.
He returned to Victoria to make a special appearance in the Blue Healers reserves side and IIRC he got one league game in 2003 before getting cut of there list.
Pity the kid had a truck load of talent, just lacked team discipline on the field. He loved to act up for the umpires and was only going for a Logie.

I have no idea what you just said
Harold used to have a photo of him in his Crows jumper on top of the piano.

:D :D This is the reason I visit BigFooty!!
I remember they played a game once and Dr Karl kicked the winning goal just before the final siren. He beat about 14 slow-motion defenders with their pathetic attempts of tackling, missing him entirely, while Karl snapped truly from about 40 out.
I hardly remember any episodes of Neighbours apart from these ones. I do remember when Paul made some sort of representative squad and some guy asked him what position he played. Paul answered "a bit of ruck rover". And this tough bloke came over and said in a menancing tone "that's my position!". It was gold Jerry!!
I can't believe I recall this! It has just stuck in my mind.

Don't forget the big mark he took before showing off those evasive skills. Don't sell the Doc short!
Had the guy been more comitted early on his career. Focus less on becoming a Dr. and banging Susan he could have been one of the greats!

I believe they cut him because his ongoing media commitments were creating disharmony within the playing and coaching staff.

My concern is that Dr Karl is now just living out his own unfulfilled sporting fantasies through young Zeke who, while passionate for the game and young enough to improve, simply doesn't have the body to match it with the big boys.
Remember how let down he was when Dr Karl stood him up at the Dingoes pie night? He had to take Susan instead and was humiliated because she didn't know a single thing about footy and kept embarassing him.
Zeke thankfully learnt the error of his ways and grew to appreciate her support.:thumbsu:

Zeke will become a good player in time if he stays with it. I think with Dr. Karl's support the sky is the limit for the kid. But the conflict between the Doc and the Kinski kids could have a negative effect on Zeke's career that and his Goth girlfriend who seems to be leading him astray. I hope he puts his head down and focuses on becoming a good football player who knows with a lot of hard work and determination he may turn out like the great Paul McLain.

Everyone thinks that the Crows started getting things together when they got rid of Gary Ayres.
Maybe it was when they turfed Paul McLain that everything really started to turn for them. ;)

I remember that episode with Karl. Worst acting I have ever seen.
Was the Paul guy the one who lived with Harold?

Yes, Harold and Madge took in Paul and his mate Tad (possibly related to Toadie in some way) after he recovered from his amnesia and moved back to Ramsay Street.
Paul may or may not have had something going with one of the Scully sisters at one stage. Or was that Tad? Can't believe I don't remember.
Probably slaying Cornes' ex-missus on McLeod's.

IIRC Tad was tapping Michelle - The youngest and most minger of the Scully children. Tad left us to pursue a DJ career with some skating tour, He was Toadies younger cousin i believe (no relation to the bumpkin Timmins family). However our good friend Blair McDonoughe(sp?) A.K.A Stu 'the former country boy, turned cop, turned blind, now can see again' Parker had the honour of tapping the fairly attractive Holly Valance who has just dissapeared off the face of the earth
Paul was having a dip with Hannah from memory.

Zeke will become a good player in time if he stays with it.
He's the team mascot now, which means he actually gets on the ground.
Next step would be waterboy - that way he gets on the ground during a game.
Then, when he's ready, the bench.
But Zeke's still probably another year or two away from that.
Oh the memories, that was a great speccy Dr Karl, he played on before he hit the ground. Didnt Holly Valance's character delcare her undying love for paul just b4 he left?
Who was that guy with the big nose and the gambling problem?

My mate use to play for Williamstown where Harold is the no. 1 ticket holder. He says the funniest thing he's ever seen is walking off the field one day and seeing Harold (Ian Smith) going off at the umpires tell them they were 'useless fu*king dogs' and just going nuts at them.
If you caught that on video it'd be priceless.

IN: Paul from Neighbours

and I know it's not really in the spirit of things, but I like the way Neighbours promotes our great game by writing it into storylines every so often

Just on Neighbours, I read in TV Week (i don't watch the show) that apparently Paul ends up in bed with that really ugly nagging cow (I thikn she plays Steph Mcintosh's stepmom)
The guy who plays Paul isn't getting paid enough to do work like that.
talking about football memories from neighbours
what about the game Billy and Toadie played for there school with Toadie kicking a bag full at full forward, and Billy dominating until he got knocked out.
Paul is now working for Collingwood football club, looking after player development. Basically a minder for Chris Tarrant & Ben Johnson. He hasn't answered his phone for two days.

I know where you're going, and I cannot post what I'd really like to, as the FBI may track me down and find out what I'm thinking. She's built for a young woman.
But I'm with you.:thumbsu:

Watch for him to join Paul McLain and get drafted to Adelaide.
The kick he marked went all of 2 meters.
The oval looked smaller than McDonalds mini-league halftime games
The goal umpire was wearing field umpires gear
The final score was 3.8 to 3.7
