What did you guys think of R. Cole's performance tonight and that haircut lol

I thought he was okay, he could be a good addition for us. Hopefully he can play out the rest of the year injury free and get some games under his belt.

Couldn't really care less about his hair.
I thought he struggled adjusting to the pace of the game, which would be understandable, as he hasnt played at "firsts" level for a very long time.
I hope we perservere with him for the rest of the year as we need to see what he can do now.

I wouldnt be surprised to see him play very well either this week or next, as he adjusts to the pace of the game.

They could slot him in as a crumber up forward this weekend. If we go with Lucas again this week, no doubt they'll slow the game down to a snail's pace to suit themselves again. Im prepared for an ugly game this week with the Swans concerned!

Only saw the 1st half and didn't think he did a heap, but wasn't bad either.

My big surprise was Bradley, looked a lot better away from the backline.

Well that's only 1 so far.
Time will tell who was the winner in the swap as don't forget we gave away pick 21 for him and Collingwood drafted Stanley with it.

Pick 23 I think it was Merv

Yep, pick 23.

Ryan Cook.

Fair enough pick 23 Ryan Cook.
Still eqation stays the same.Who ends up the best player in the long run.

Hopefully that will be Cole

That's on the proviso we were going to draft Cook with that pick.

We might have drafted Lonergan at 23 and someone else later on.

Cole reminded me of Adrian Burns with the way he looked Sat night. Anyone remember him...played for us, then crossed to the Saints briefly.

I remember him, not sure I see the comparison though.

Maybe the hair. Burns did have a cracker of a mullet for a while.

Yeah, forgot to include it being the hair and that stocky posture he has...almost barrel chested!

I think Cole will be alright,
just give him a few more games and hopefully...no injuries!
Would love to see what the Pie supporters think of him when he starts kicking ass...
most of them hate him now and bag him...funny that.

I was more excited about Jay Nash's performance. Looks good running out of defence hitting long targets every time. Hope he stays in the team for remainder of the year.

Not sure about Cole as yet, think he needs another good pre-season

Cole just needs a few more games and he should gain confidence.

Something Nash obvioulsy doesn't need, watched reply yesterday and it was late 3rd quarter, tense time and he just cooly chucks it on the left boot and hits Hirdy 30+ metres away, he's been more impressive each week, glad he's proving me wrong

The kid is a real talent.

I love the way he backs himself to get forward, Lloydy will enjoy leading to Nash next year.

If he can have a full pre-season and drop a couple more kilo's he may get that speed back that he once had. He certainly isn't the explosive kid he used to be, he's too young to have lost it for good.

He wa very poor on the weekend. Just ran into trouble almost everytime he got the footy. However, it was his first game in a long time so he should be cut some slack. He may be dropped though as he can;t justify a spot with that performance. still I'm glad he got through unscathed and lets hope he can build on that get a bit of confidence.

Jury is out on him until end of next season.

I agree the jury is out on him although i believe it would be a mistake to drop him this week.
That would not enhance his confidence at all and imo he just needs to adjust to the pace of "firsts" football, which i feel he will do either this week or next, as long as he is given the chance.

He was under pressure because he went after the contested ball or recieved a handpass under pressure, not all his fault, he held his own alright on the weekend

He even got some nice handballs out under pressure

I thought the same, I thought he tried to run himself out of trouble rather than into it.

I'm rapt he is back in the seniors. I hope he has a good career with your mob (20 games a season that is ;)). He's brave and has skills, and gets in where its tough. If he stays fit and focussed you'll have a very good player in your side.

If Cook turns out a better player than Cole I'll be happy indeed: Cole definitley has the potential to be excellent.

Bag yes, hate no. Like everyone we thought he showed potential but for some reason he got lost and wasn't sure about playing footy for a career in general. He has gone down in interview saying this. Personally I'm happy for Cole that he has shed 8kg and now at least looks as though he plays footy for a living. For his sake too I hope he has lost the habit of propping up a high spinning drop punt when passing. You'll know what I'm talking about if the habbit is still there - it just gives the opposition that extra 1 second or so to make ground for a spoil.

Good luck Richard.

tried to do too much I thought. When he is fit and full of confidence, then he should run through packs and tackles, but I thought he just hung on to the ball too much. and his confidence seemed to wane as the game went on.

I agree that to drop him could hurt his confidence, but it just depends on whether we want to reward all, or are selective about it. I am happy either way, as long as it is accepted by all players.

He is the guy that can release McVeigh onto the ball. That is important IMO. I don't see Slattery as aback pocket only player, so if he plays I expect him to be more of a jack of all trades when it comes to tagging.

I guess its the chicken or the egg arguement isn't it.

I was pleased he won contested ball and he tried to take the game on.

I made that point in another thread. Close game, McVeigh goes forward and kicks two goals. Cole gives us a strong body and flexibility.

He was far from outstanding but at least he serves a purpose and has something to work with.

I thought it was the fact he got ot ruck (something he has had experience doing) that helped him. He has played a bit down forward for mixed results, but I reckon giving him 2nd ruck duties gives us way more flexibility as it means Hille can ruck for most of the game which he likes and Bradley can be used to roam the ground and pick up touches. He is getting strong enough to do ruck work, and at the moment, I reckon its his best spot for us.

I think with a big preseaon in the gym and on the running track, he will be busting those tackles next year, and lets hope running through packs.

Big thing is his commitment, only time will tell. lets hope by game 1 wizard cup we see a jobe watson style makeover

Yeah, roaming the ground is what he does best and if he is put on a HFF/wing he can float forward and take his strong marks in the F50. He's always had the courage to take pack marks and if he can get forward and kick some goals like he did on the weekend I think his career could take a big step forward.

Maybe thats all he needs...more freedom around the ground instead of stopping an opponent. Would certainly stretch their backline if he's allowed to roam the forward 50 again. The Swans dont exactly have gorillas down back and it would force Goodes to play a more defensive role if we stacked our forward 50 with talls.

...He is the guy that can release McVeigh onto the ball...

Don't rule out Cole in the square. He has very good hands down low, handballs well, and is hard at it. I can see him as a burst player against heavy opposition (Buckley Ricciutto type centremen).

Once he gets a good base fitness into him this pre season...we can then gauge what we've received in Cole. Pretty hard for anyone barring Hirdy to come in at round 17 and become a solid player from the get go

I'll take your word on that, but for the moment - if he were to cement his spot on the HBF next year and release McVeigh I would be very happy. Next year is all about establishing himself. From then, I am happy if he does do that, to try in the middle. If he is as good as you reckon he could be, then he would be very good in there.

No doubt though that he needs confidence and I reckon he'll get that playing in a more defined role to begin with.

PS Thanks for the input.
