View Full Version : Guess the Hand... Part III or whatever

A friend of mine invited me to his friend's house yesterday to play some Limit Hold'em - mostly experienced players, with a few novices. Couple of faces I had played with before in my home game. I sat out for the first game, and bought in for the second (only $5). No idea why the game was Limit, either.
Six players, blinds $25/$50, limits $50/$100. I'm dealt 6-7 of spades on the button. Pre flop action went fold, limp, fold, limp. I pop it up to $100. SB folds, BB folds. Limpers call. Three way action.
Flop is 6d-7h-Ts. First limper bets, second folds, I raise to $100, he re-raises, I cap the betting. The guy is a pretty solid player normally, though I've never played Limit with him before.
Turn comes a Jc. He leads, I just call. River the Ac. He bets, I put my last chip in.
He has...?

Geez, I don't know, I'm not really good at this.
Clues:
- It's a cheap limit game
- You say he is a fairly solid player normally (but does this hold for this hand?)
- He open limps from MP rather than raise
- You raise, there's 9 SBs in the pot, again he does not raise, but merely calls
So he can't have a high pair, and I don't think he has anything akin to blackjack or better, so he has a low pair or two middle cards. He open bets the flop and re-raises your raise. I guess he is betting the flop rather than because he likes his starting hand. Did he hit or is he on a draw? If he's on a weak draw, why bet? If he's on any draw, why re-raise? Surely his play does not indicate an OESD or BDFD. Does he have a made straight? I'll say no.
Surely he doesn't have KQ, why would he go mad on the flop just because he has two overcards and you have an opponent that obviously has something.
I really don't have a clue. I'll go with a split pot and he's also got an all-black 76  (or Td7d)

I'm already fretting how wrong I probably am :( Borg, you were the man on the last guess the hand, and that was obvious once you said it and I put the pieces together.
EDIT: I like your thinking with AT, but why re-raise the flop? With just TPTK to a pre-flop and post-flop LP raiser, does he put Crosby on AK/AQ/AJ and thus he believes he's ahead?

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say 8-9 off suit...
He had you on the flop.....
Probably wrong, but i will stand by it
Well flat caling A-10 isnt a bad option and then you have top pair with a fairly weak flop (I doubt he put Crosby on 67s). Bet and are raised by the original bettor, maybe think its a bluff to try and win the pot so you test his resolve by re raising but he caps it so you gotta think he has high pocket pair at least.
J comes, lead out and are called so maybe that wasnt so good. A comes bet again.
It kinda makes sense, but then again so do a few others.

Very nice thinking R+B, dead on the money.
The answer is AJ. He made runner-runner to take me down.
His explanation for his flop play was that he put me on a hand like A-J, A-Q, A-K, K-J etc. and he thought I missed the flop. He was trying to push me out of it, which was good thinking on his part, because I try to see flops cheaply in Limit with hands like 6-7, rather than raise. I also guess he capped it so I would think he was strong if I had a piece of it. (It did scare me a bit)
But it was an interesting hand. I don't think I could have played it any better than I did. He's going to call me down to the river when he hits that J in Limit Hold'em. He said when the J hit he "knew" he was in front in the hand considering he put me on a missed flop.
I'll also add that I didn't put him on A-J. I was scared of a set due to him limping in mid position (I think R+B went through this). I think when he capped it I had a feeling he had Tens, which is why I slowed down on fourth. I read him as pretty strong, and I guess he felt he was ahead, which explains it.
