Surely they won't give Lehmann a game ahead of M.Waugh. [there goes the flying pigs] :D

Maybe he's in the squad to give Junior a massive wake up call.

An extract from the baggygreen. com report:

Southern Redbacks captain Darren Lehmann has been included in the squad for the first time since the fifth one-day international of the Kelvinator Tour of India in April 2001.

Queensland Bulls all-rounder Andrew Symonds makes way for Lehmann.

The left-hander's inclusion in the one-day international squad caps off yesterday's selection in the 15-man Test squad for the Travelex Australian Tour of South Africa and Zimbabwe 2002.

Lehmann is the leading run-scorer in Pura Cup and ING Cup cricket this season. He has scored 361 ING Cup runs in seven matches at an average of 72.20, including 101 against the NSW Blues at Coffs Harbour. His prolific scoring and handy left-arm orthodox spinners has seen him claim four ING Cup man-of-the-match awards.

From seven Pura Cup matches this season, the South Australian has 772 runs at 64.33.

On his selection in the VB Series one-day international squad, Lehmann said: "It's been a pretty good 24 hours for me. The news of my inclusion in the Test squad to tour South Africa and Zimbabwe was exciting on its own. To know that I will be joining the one-day international team for the Perth leg of the VB Series is icing on the cake.

"I've been happy with my form in ING Cup cricket this year and I'm looking forward to contributing to Australia's efforts in getting into the VB Series finals."

Fantastic news and well done to the selectors for showing some strength.

Bit sorry for Symonds though, a few others could have been in line before him.

Dogboy, I'm not saying Symonds didn't deserve the chop but you could have thrown a dart at the team list and hit someone who was playing just as shyte.

Lehmann certainly deserves to be there....a lot more than Symonds..or Harvey...or M Waugh. Symonds would be the one i would of dropped from the squad before Harvey or anyone else...Harvey has done crap this summer...but Symonds has done worse...he has done nothing at all.

Lehmann sould have replaced Damien Martyn, because I think that he is the dumbest cricketer playing in this one day series.

The way that he doesn't try to change the way he bats when Fleming sets that off-side field, is frustrating and he really needs to think a bit more out there.

What if the dart landed on Bevan?:D

Great to see Lehmann (belatedly) getting a game. He should get a game against South Africa...otherwise what would be the point?

Lehmann's weight will cost Australia about 20-30 runs, in the form of lost quick singles and extra runs.

Imagine if Lehmann and Warne are batting together?

I agree with Spogs, Symonds is just a scapegoat, just like Hayden was.

Lehmann may not be as quick as Bevan, but he is not exactly slow like Warney either. He is quicker that his build would suggest. To say that he will cost the Aussies 20-30 runs is a stupid comment. Are honestly saying that Symonds' form has been so good that he deserves his place (whilst Lehmann is going beserk topping the runs in both the ING & Pura cups). You could argue that Symonds was unlucky to get dropped ahead of the equally ordinary M Waugh & Harvey. But to suggest Lehmann doesn't deserve his (long overdue) chance because he will "cost" the Aussies shows a lack of knowledge of cricket.

Symonds is one of the better fieldsmen in the side and certainly has a unpredictability about him. Possibly one of the other out of form batsmen could have had a breather?

If Lehmann bats long enough to "cost us" 20 or 30 runs in lost singles he'll probably be about 150 anyway and it won't matter!

Well i don't think we should have dropped symmo. Got man of the match on friday and for good reason tooo. 61 off 62...and turned the game around with his bowling got 3/30 or something.

Darren better play well is all I'm saying.
