View Full Version : Which knock was better. Bevo or Cairns.
Which knock was better. Bevo's superbly engeneered 102n.o that single handedly won his country the game or Cairns big hitting underrated (compared to bevo)superb and exhilirating 102no.
Personally Bevo just gets the nod cause i was there and u felt Cairns could of hit out at any time (not really but compared to bev), while bevo never looked like getting out (apart from the drop but he still hit it well) and bevo was at the crease when aus were 6-80 and atleast cairns had parore there.

What a wierd post. You say Cairns could of got out at anytime...then you say not really....then you say Bevan never looked like getting out....then you say except for the dropped catch. If he got dropped then obviously he looked like getting out at one stage in the match. You also failed to state that Cairns single handedly won NZ that game as well.
You mention Parore....so what?? Bevan still had S Waugh, Harvey and Warne (and even B Lee) who can all bat (pity S Waugh and Harvey couldnt contribute anything yet again, whereas Parore stuck around)
I mean how can you seperate them?? They were both very similar innings. Both players won their teams a game that seemingly looked lost. Both scored the same number of runs at over a run a ball...both had to rely on the lower order batsmen to hold on. Only difference is Parore and Harris stuck around for a while and helped out whereas Harvey and S Waugh (no surprises with these two really) did nothing.
For mine...they are inseperable. Both were inspirational fantastic innings....both would be (arguably) in the top 10 one-day innings of all time.

As Macca said, both performances were brilliant, but for over-all impact, I would have to give it to Cairns (only just) because he got three wickets as well.
But, saying that, I enjoyed watching these great one-day players at the peak of thier form.

I just put Bevan a touch ahead of Cairns...Both were great knocks, but Bevan did the impossible, while Cairns just had a day out......

Both innings were matchwinning innings, but I put Bevan's slightly ahead of Cairns, although very hard to separate.

Both were awesome innings, and although i find them hard to seperate, i would give it to Cairns... (just)

How do you work that out???
They were both in basically the exact same situation.
I would say Cairns by a poofteenth, although both were great innings. It looked like Cairns had less support and had to do more on his own, whereas Bevan was content to share the strike with Lee and Warne who were batting well and scored well for tail enders.
