Well what a fun day!!! It kicked arse over last years BDO but wasnt as good as 99 or 00.
Id like to say a warm thanx to SS11, Miss Magpie, gPhonque, Hitman and Petelx who i met at the Big Day Out!! Was a great day ;) :D
I was in the mosh/up the front for:
Amen
Phil K
Infusion
GT
System Of A Down
Sonic Animation
Crystal Method (50% of it)
Dave Clarke
I listened to:
Grinspoon (long story)
Garbage (50x better live than on cd)
Silverchair (how pathetic were they!!!!!)
Prodigy (didnt bother after Grinspoon incident)
The day started with Amen, who played an UNBELIVABLE set. The plaudits from the American Press that they are the best live band in the world were pretty much spot on. They were violent, they were impressive, they were hard, and they were brilliant. They played: Coma America, Mayday, Refuse Amen, Justified, Down Human, Piss Virus, Price of Reality and CK Killer. I also ran into Hitman at the start of their set which was cool.
Next i found SS11 and miss magpie again and went into the Boiler Room (Boiler Tent really).
Phil K was bloody good with his breakbeats. Infusion was pretty good too. GT however was excellent....i enjoyed his set more than any others in the Boiler Tent i reckon.
Next was Grinspoon. Me and Hitman decided to go into the mosh for this. Bad mistake. Because that stupid girl last year overdosed, fell over and got trodden on and died, they had to change the whole bloody set up around. They had this wierd D shaped moshpit area where only 4000 people were allowed inside (could EASILY fit 7-8000). There were only two entries on either side of this D. This was a BIG mistake. Especially when 7000 people are trying to get into one little gate for Grinspoon. They let about 40 people thru then decided nope, we arent letting anyone else in...so they said "you gotta go round to the other entrance". Problem is, it would of been the same over there too! If not worse!!! half the people gave up while me and Hitman decided to stick to it. We got up the front of the gate, i was squashed against the barrier (which gave me some pretty painful bruised ribs) and then Mr F***wit came out. After the security had been...fairly nice and friendly, the Organisers security guard came out and told everyone "your not getting in go to the other entrance". I then said to him "By the time we get there it will be closed as well"....so Mr F***wit replied very nastily "THIS IS WHAT IVE BEEN TOLD TO DO, YOUR ONLY ALLOWED 4000 PEOPLE IN THE MOSHPIT YOU F***WIT"....i found that to be a bit nasty considering i asked a fairly simple question with no abuse....so i told him where to get off. Thankfully the other security guard sided with me and told him to f*** off.
After being squashed, trampled and basically annoyed for 50 minutes i finally got into the mosh area about 3 songs from the end of Grinspoons set.
Met up with Hitters again and decided to head to the System side of the stage. WOW. All i have to say is they were unbelivable. AMAZING. Couldnt ask for a better set from them.
They played (in relative order): Prison Song, Drugs (a lil intro thingy that just goes 'We're on drugs...we're on drugs...wwweeee'rrreee ooonnnn drugs') Jet Pilot, Needles, Suggestions, Psycho, Bounce, Chop Suey, Aerials, X, Toxicity, Suite Pee, Sugar. They were brilliant. The mosh was fun (and rough) and they played the best set of the day.
Next i met up with gPhonque again breifly, before heading off to the Boiler Room for a look at Sonic Animation who were great as usual.
Next i met up with gPhonque up in the stand and sat with him and ss11 and miss magpie and listened to Garbage....they are so much better live than on cd. Then came Silverchair who were a laugh and a half. Watching all the 15 and 16 year old teenybopper girlies screeching in the moshpit was a funny sight to see!! I found them to be boring....very boring. Halfway thru i remembered Crystal Method was on so i ran in there and caught 45 minutes of there set which was brilliant.
Then i listened to New Order play half an hour over there timeslot GRRRRRRRRRR while waiting for the Prodigy. Then came the Prodigy...my favourite band. Im in two worlds over there set. It was awesome...just because it was Prodigy, but their setlist was bad if you ask me. They played: intro, Their Law, Trigger, Breathe, Smack My Bitch Up, Babys Got A Temper, Mindfields, Nuclear, Poison, Firestarter, Fuel My Fire.
Three new songs, but the album tracks are basically all from Fat of the Land. VERY dissapointing indeed. Altho i love the Prodigy, i prefer the electronic Prodigy compared to the rock Prodigy a lot more. Was very dissapointed at only two Jilted Generation tracks...and still not one Experience track played live since 1996!
Overall it was a good day.....ive got a ticket to the Adelaide Big Day Out tomorrow so ill be going to that one as well!!! Just to see Prodigy again :D
