After, complaining about the quality of the Daimond Valley Football League's site, compared to the EFL's and the WRFL's, the General Mananger of the DVFL, Peter Floyd has announced that the DVFL website will have a new look for 2002, and will be up and running by the end of Feburary.

I have seen the message on the DVFL site, about how it will be a new look website in Feburary. I had no problems with the way the site was, but I am still looking forward to the changes that will be made.

Could someone please tell the DVFL to hurry up and release the juniors fixtures? I would like to know when Coburg are playing, and where, and it is annoying me that I am unable to find out this info at the moment.

It has been changed, however, some parts of the page are under construction.

I was only complaining that the DVFL's site is a little basic, compared to the EFL's and the YVMDFL's, and considering that the league is pretty big now, with 25 senior teams and three divisions of juniors, I thought that a bigger, better DVFL site would be fitting for such a big league.

I hope that the Under 19's fixtures are up now, because Mernda was trying to field a team this year, and got 16 players on the first information night, so I was wondering if our attempts were successful and that Mernda would field an under 19's team for the first time in two decades.

Also, the EFL has a forum on thier site (as well as the YVMDFL) and seems to have a bit of traffic on there (the EFL's website gets more hits than half of the AFL teams officail sites), and it would ge good if they did something similar there, because I would go on it that's for sure.

I may have missed it, but I can't find the senior fixtures anymore. And I can't find the under 19s fixtures, or the junior fixtures either.

Well i've got West Preston's fixture right here, and Panton Hill's fixture is still on thier website www.pantonhillfc.com.

West Preston Fixture 2002
13/4 Greensborough (H)
20/4 Bundoora (A)
27/4 Lalor (H)
4/5 Epping (A)
12/5 Heidelburg (H)
18/5 Lower Plenty (H)
25/5 Northcote Park (A)
1/6 Montmorency (H)
15/6 North Heidelburg (A)
22/6 Greensborough (A)
29/6 Bundoora (H)
6/7 Lalor (A)
13/7 Epping (H)
20/7 Heidelburg (A)
27/7 Lower Plenty (A)
3/8 Northcote Park (H)
10/8 Montmorency (A)
17/8 North Heidelburg (H)

But, as far as the juniors are concearned, the DVFL is not sure of how many teams are going to compete this year, with Wallan joining and what not, so it would probably be ready by Mrch sometime.

Thanks for that. They have put the seniors/reserves draw back on their site, but the under 19s and juniors fixtures are still unavailable.

Well Play On, according to Peter Floyd, (El Presidente of the DVFL:D ) the junior fixtures will be confirmed by the time of the next league delegates meeting in a month's time. (There has been a delay because of liability insurance).

But anyway, I can tell you that all 10 clubs in division one will be fielding an under 19's team for this year, and in Division Two, Diamond Creek, Eltham, Hurstbridge, Macleod, South Morang and Wallan should field a team, and Fawkner Park, Reservoir, Thomastown, Mernda and Whittlesea are trying to get enough players by the time of the next delegets meeting, (the deadline), and I can tell you that Mernda, Fawkner Park and Thomastown have had encouraging numbers show up for information nights and at training, but as far as Reservoir and Whittlesea go, well it looks doubtful at this stage.

P.S
I hope that Reservoir get enough players, but as far as Whittlesea goes, well I hope they fall on thier arse so that MERNDA can pick up a few blokes on the rebound:D .

I can tell you Play On and Borogirl, that the Division 1 & 2 fixtures are up at the moment, but its only in draft form, the Division 3 fixtures will be up soon (Kinglake are having some trouble fielding thier junior teams this year), and it will all be official in a month's time.

Also, i've heard that Templestowe are fielding thier under 19's team in the DVFL, but their seniors and reserves are still affiliated with the EFL, could Templestowe return to the DVFL fold after over a decade in the EFL ?,

The website has also listed some practice matches.

16th March

Whittlesea v Banyule @ Whittlesea showgrounds

Fawkner Park v Craigeburn @ Fawkner Park

West Preston- Lakeside v Wangaratta @ Moore Park

17th March

Yarrambat v Diamond Creek @ Yarrambat

6th April

Mernda v unknown @ Mernda Rec Reserve

I assume other practice matches will be announced soon, as no practice matches are listed for Reservoir, Panton Hill, Lalor, Epping, Northcote Park, and quite a few other clubs.

I expect a WP win, but that is typical of me. I never expect to lose.

The Yarrambat v Diamond Creek games are juniors matches. Yarrambat do not have seniors or reserves. I hope that Yarrambat give Diamond Creek the hiding they deserve, in all age groups, but in particular the under 17s.

I think you (West Preston) would beat Wangaratta, they've been cellar dwellers for years in the O&M, but I heard that they picked up a few blokes, and thier reserves and under 19's are strong, so you'll get a good workout.

As for Mernda, i've heard that it could be Jacana, Broadford or Yea (where we can get a hitout for our under 13's as well), but all will be revealed I think within two weeks.

Checked out the DVFL website today. I must say it is a huge improvement from last years! Very impressed! First round clash should be a good one! I should get to a lot of Boro games this year because Carlton have a lot of Sunday and Friday night games this season!

Wayde Petersen
19th February 2002, 12:38
You may as well go to more boro games, Borogirl, since that Carlton will hardly play at Princes Park this season, and my cousin Tommy's having a go at Lalor this year (that's unless he changes his mind, which I hope he does), so if Greensborough's playing Lalo, I'll make sure that I get there.

In a fortnight, i'm going to have a series of threads called "Petersen's prognositcations" where I will disect the DVFL the GVFL and the KDFL and make some predictions about all the teams for 2002.

P.S
Greensborough looked pretty good during the last half of the 2001 season, and I think they (as well as Epping) might do well this year.

P.P.S
God it's good to talk about footy again, I can't wait 'til the start of April.

Cheers, i'll make a note of that, but it all depends if I can talk Tommy out of playing for Lalor and for him to come back to the Mernda flock (were going to win the flag this year, I know it:D )

It seems that West Prston lost by 5 points.:( :( After the finish to last year for West Preston, losing quite a few games at the end of the season, and missing the finals as a result, isn't this just the perfect start.

I wouln't worry too much, Play On. these matches are just to get your body in motion and to try some new recruits and juniors and it looked like the maggies gave your fellas a good game (unlike Eltham College, who were beaten by 100 points by Panton Hill), Mernda missed a lot of opputunities in front of goal (Tommy was the worst offender, but i'm glad he's come back to the mighty demons), but i'm satisfied that Norwood (EFL division 3) gave our three teams a good hit out before we go and play Mansfield next week and Broadford in a fortnight, and for the season proper starting in Easter

How good are Mansfield and Broadford? Are they any chance against your boys?

On another subject, I went and had a look at Reservoir v Hurstbridge during the weekend. I can't remember the scores, but Hurstbridge beat Reservoir by about 5 goals. Great to have local footy back.

Hey Wayde, hear any rumblings regarding two high profile Nth Heidelberg players possibly on the move??? They could strengthen a side, couldn't they now??!!??

Which players, Tredders?. I haven't heard anything about some gun recruits on the market, when I was at Mernda last week. (although i've heard that gun Divvie 2 forward, Paul Baker was going to Mernda this year, he's captain/coach of our cricket team, but he isn't going to stick with Whittlesea, which is a pity because we need a forward), but we've got some talls who look good, and if we can get some divvy 1 players to Merda, it should be good for finals this year.

Mansfield and Broadford should give Mernda a good run, although Mansfield has lost a few players, they should still give a good account of themselves, and Broadford has bought big on GVFL players and will be a tough challenge for us.

As far as Panton Hill's concerned, i'm not sure how Tullamarine and Canterbury would go against the Redbacks, but I hope that they give the hillers a good hit-out for what will be a tougher season for the club.

Wayde, it's a done deal! Signed with the mighty Tigers this week. Two bleached blondes (do u need names?). Seems the Tigers won't be finishing as low as perhaps first predicted. I would rank both players in the top 20 in the league. Very handy pick-ups on the eve of the season.

.....Clearances pending, of course!
They'll surely go to appeal.

BTW, the players are Caddy and Harvey.

I'm suprised that Heidelberg got thier services, geez the boys at the Bronx won't be too happy about that (usually it's Northcote Park that gets the big recruits, they always buy players), I didn't know they had that much money in the bank (because to be honest with you, Whittlesea and Mernda have more supporters and members than Heidelberg), but with the hoopla about David Rhys-Jones a memory, I think that that the River Rats won't be too bad, and they (like Epping) will climb in this forthcoming season.

It said in yesterdays local paper " Diamond Valley News" that Paul Baker has retired. If you can get your hands on a copy, it lists all the arrivals and departures of all the second division teams. I'm assuming first division will be in next weeks paper.

Wayde Petersen
6th April 2002, 21:52
Well Mernda were trying to coax Paul Baker out of retirement (he was captain/coach of the successful Mernda CC 1st XI, over former Jika PDCA rival, Lalor Stars in the Money Shield), but sadly his knees were giving him too much trouble and he'll concentrate on his cricket.

Also the DVFL show on Channel 31 has been axed by the league, citing lack of sponsorship, inability to collect ratings, and the poor reception for Channel 31 over much of the DVFL's territory (which includes semi/rural areas such as Hurstbridge, Panton Hill, Kinglake, Wallan, Mernda and Whittlesea).

But all things aside, i'm pumped for what will be a big year for Mernda (who's got Tommy Felle back:D ) and Panton Hill (who's recruited well).

Wayde Petersen
9th April 2002, 21:38
Well in the Division Two thirds, Mernda :( and Hurstbridge have decided not to field an under 19's team this year, due to lack of numbers, I don't know what the story is with Hurstbridge because they've got juniors and have had a thirds team for ages, but Mernda found it really difficult to get the required numbers because of South Morang, Epping, Lalor, Thomastown and Whittlesea competing for the same pool of players, so something had to give and sadly, Mernda had to withdraw.

It was always going to be hard for Mernda because we only reformed our juniors last year, and we only have an under 11's and 14's side, and were really in a suburban area, but we tried and that's all that we can do.

So the under 19's, Division Two will line up like this :
Diamond Creek
Wallan
Whittlesea
Thomastown
South Morang
Macleod
Eltham
Fawkner Park
Reservoir
Templestowe (under 19's only)
