I'm in the early stages of putting together a documentary on the current state of Australian Television, what with this being the 50th birthday and all.
I have formed a survey and anybody who takes the time to fill it out would be doing me a huge favour.

Not any more - they did when shows like Friends, Malcolm, The Simpsons, and the Sunday night movie rated highly. I can't stand shows like Border Control, CSI, Desperate Housewives etc.

No
6) If yes do you watch it more than free to air TV?
NA

8) Are you a fan of lifestyle TV?
Not particularly - don't mind the occasional travel show.
9) Are you a fan of reality TV?
No - except for maybe Survivor occasionally. The rest suck, ie. Big Brother, Biggest Loser, Yasmin:D , The Hot House, Honey We're Killing the kids etc etc.
10) Do you watch non appealing footy matches on TV just cause its the footy? (or anysport for that matter)
Yes all the time. The way footy is these days, most games are non appealing unless your team is playing. I find i watch most mainstream sports except for motor racing.
11) Do you watch ACA or Today Tonight most nights?
No
12) Are you over the current state of Australian network TV?
Yes. We need more news programs and good Australian humour shows (Thank God You're Here, the Chaser) and less cheap reality TV (looking at you Network 10).
13) What is the WORST show currently made and shown on network TV?
ummm..tough one. Yasmin is up there, though i doubt it will be current for much longer. Possibly Reba :D . I'll go with The Wedge.
14) What is the WORST show ever made in Australia?
The Resort.
15) What is the BEST show currently made and shown on network TV?
Lost or Thank God You're Here. Nothing can beat The Office but it is no longer on TV (just wait for Extras - its fantastic!). The Simpsons has gone dowhill so far its not funny.
16) What is the BEST show ever made in Australia?
Full Frontal, SeaChange, The Games, Russell Coight, and Kath and Kim would be up there for me. Maybe go with SeaChange - probably the only drama i have liked.
17) Who is the most ANNOYING-OVERATED personality currently on network TV?
Rove (easiest question to answer apart from "how old are you?")

Tough one - Hamish Blake or Pete Hellier.

Probably Friends. I know, but i enjoyed it for some reason.

No - there is enough crap on as it is.

If it has been lower than what it is atm i would be surprised. The Wedge supports that theory.

Used to be The Shield before they dumped it. Then Curb Your Enthusiasm. Now I'd say Lost, even though I don't watch it.

Hard pressed here. Probably early-mid Blue Heelers.

Naomi Robson for annoying. Rove for overrated.

Again, hard pressed. Peter Hellier is fine.

The sunday movie. On every channel.

Yes. Reality won't go away. Now channel = more opportunities, hopefully, for better shows.

The Chasers is pretty good.

A lot of the comedies from previous years like Full Frontal, Fast Forward were good.

Toss up between Rove, Kochie & Mel, Karl & the skinny ugly chick he hosts with and about 10-15 others.

There are no stand out personalities on Australian television.

There are many.

Not much point, it will be the same old rehashed junk and ideas from other networks. Same s**t, different channel.

I watched a 1968 episode of Division Four last night and found it more entertaining than the schite that's currently being dished up.
It seems to lack imagination at present. :thumbsd:

I think you've missed the boat on this doco, given it needs to be shown this year to be relevant. Anyway, I'll answer.

No. I also hate the term "reality TV", there's nothing real about it; its normally just a 3 month long game show.

I'm in Canberra. Any footy that's on before midnight is a rare thing and to be treasured.

No. I doubt I've seen more than half a story all year on either.
In fact I've probably seen more on Media Watch and The Chaser's War On Evereything than I have watching the shows themselves.
12) Are you over the current state of Australian network TV?
Abysmal. Comercial TV completely lacks credible current affairs (Sunday and Meet the Press being exceptions, but Sunday is going to be cut back.)

Name a so-called reality show.

Idol. But I haven't seen The Slapper's Getting Married or whatever its called.

I loved it as a kid, and now its back I'm loving it again. Doctor Who.
If you mean made in Australia, there's so little either in comedy or drama I'm forced to go with Insiders. Not one comedy, drama, or anything else can match a fairly ordinary political review - I think that fairly sums up Australian TV at the moment. Or maybe The Glass House.

Frontline - this answer might explain some of why I don't watch TT or ACA

Mike Munro, maybe David Koch. Gretel Killeen certainly ranks up there.

Tough one, probably Andrew Denton. I usually can't stand that type of show but Enough Rope can actually be interesting and entertaining.
19) What program do you currently miss the most on Australian network TV?
I don't think there's any I miss.
I miss the days when the likes of 4 Corners had the money to do their own investigative journalism most weeks instead of buying a BBC story.
20) Does Australia need a new free to air network?
Need, perhaps not. Should we have one, yes. Mainstream media ownership in Australia is highly concentrated and about to get worse. A 4th commercial network might go some way toward lessening the impact of the new laws.
21) Do you think the standard of Television in Australia is at a creative low at the moment or do you think it has been worse?
Its creative in the sense that they are finding new ways to draw mass audiences of people that appeal to big time advertisers with low production budgets and also gain revenues direct from the viewer. (BB and Idol are incredibly creative in that respect.) Nine are even more creative with product placement.
In terms of what ends up on screen, its the lowest I've seen it.
