Never see the purpose of buying music VHS considering their crap quality. DVD's I have got are:

Oasis - Familiar To Millions
Oasis - There and Then

Might get U2's new one from boston, and a few Travis/Coldplay ones. Ordering in another Oasis one from the UK.

As far as I am aware, I have all the live Jimi Hendrix concert footage known to exist. My favorite is Woodstock.

Others:

SRV - Live at El Macambo
SRV - Austin City Limits

AC/DC - Donnington
AC/DC - Cannot remember title. Older gig filmed in Paris and with Bon Scott

Van Halen - Right Here, Right Now. Not bad for Hagar.

Metallica - Cunning Stunts

Ozzy - The one filmed in KC. Other than that fact, it sucks.

Led Zeppelin - Song Remains the Same

Page & Plant - No Quarter

Ted Nugent - Whiplash Bash

Eric Clapton - Slowhand Archive

Debbie Does.....err excuse me, that one belongs filed on a different shelf.

Some of my faves:

Tesla - Five Man Video Band

Midnight Oil - Live On The Water

Def Leppard - In the Round, In Your Face

Gary Moore - Emerald Isle Live In Ireland

Damn Yankees - Uprising (one of Ted Nugents side bands)

Iron Maiden - Live After Death (definately the best of Maiden's live videos)

Rush - A Show Of Hands

Judas Priest - Live

Scorpions - World Wide Live

Nazareth - Live

M29, some of us may be just a tad older than you and had to get the VHS tapes because DVD wasn't even thought of at the time.

Mooster, I could never get into the arguments about whether VH Dave or VH Sammy were better, I couldn't give a sh*t, I like both versions of the band. Sammy had some good stuff with Halen and it was only Alex and Eddies paranoia that caused them to split.
VH Charone will be the end of them. I've heard they are now without a recording contract, Warner Bros has cut them loose.

"Scream for me Long Beach!!!"

Definitely a classic - and I'm not a huge fan of the band either!

My dad has AC/DC one, but right now I can't remember the title of it, it is brilliant though.

Hippie,

I prefer the Davie Lee Roth era, but compared to some of the other stuff VH has done, Sammy was very good. I thought they were a little too "commercial" while he was with them. At the same time, it could be because they actually did license a few of their tunes for commercial use. It is hard to appreciate a song when you associate it with someone trying to sell you chewing gum. ;)

I just presume that most people don't like the Sammy era because that is what I hear all the time. To express my true thoughts, I should have said,

"Very good even if you prefer Roth."

I've also heard a rumor that EVH is suffering from some form of cancer, and may retire (the BIG retirement?) It could be BS, I don't know.

Peace, Mooster

Yes Eddie did/does have cancer. I'm not sure how he's progressing though.

One thing about the Hagar stuff that gets on my tits a bit is that there's a lot of lovey-dovey songs... with DLR in the band, they were about sex.

5150 and F.U.C.K. were two of the more consistent Van Halen albums, whereas I think with DLR in the band only Van Halen I was a good consistent album (and what a cracker it was!!!) while the others were generally patchy, even 1984.

Darky,

Yeah, nothing beats that first album. It was amazing at the time (I think 1979) and it still is. I read an interview with EVH wherein he was talking about those early albums. It all stemmed from the "artistic differences" within the band. Roth liked to re-work covers, and EVH wanted all original work. If Roth was pissed at the rest of the band, he would insert some cheesey lyrics. That is why those albums got "patchy" and inconsistent.

I was looking at your list. Good stuff there. My older brother took me to see both Priest and Rainbow back in 82 or 83. At any rate it was the peak time for both bands. I was completely shocked to learn that Rob Halferd was a homo. I had to very quickly re-write my "hero list" (retroactive at that ;) )

I don't know if you've heard anything that Ritchie Blackmoore has done recently, but it is strange stuff. I don't care for it. The "reconstituted" Deep Purlple are recording better tunes than RB these days IMO.

I've only recently got into Yngwie. That is because I've only recently figured out what the hell he is doing! I don't shred it at lightning speed, but I do lift ideas off him. Perhaps it will give me an excuse to get a new Stratocaster with a scalloped neck?

Anway, this was a good thread, Macca. I don't know about the rest of you, but I prefer live over studio work. I think the live sound is the "true" essence of what the band is capable of. As a bonus, a live set of tracks has an added advantage - it generally acts as a "best of" and it can save you from having to buy the whole collection of the bands work. :D

Peace, Mooster

Couldn't help but notice you had Damn Yankees as well, Darky. I loved the 2 albums they did, Jack Blades and Tommy Shaw are very underrated songwriters, IMO. And Ted, well he is just a legend, ("Me and Tommy, we have an understanding. He eats the rabbit food and I eat the damn rabbit!!)

There was a rumour running about they were to record another DY album last year ,but it never happened, unfortunately. It really is great rock'n'roll.

That Uprising vid got panned here because the Oz critics didn't like Ted's 'America kicks f*uckin' ass' references through the show, but stuff them, what do they know. :D

I also have some footage of Ted Nugent performing in New York arond 1975-76, shot for German TV. It's been dubbed many many times and I probably have the 20th generation copy, so the picture is crap but the sound (while a little distorted) is still pretty good. Shows Ted at his maniacal, crazed peak.

I would have liked to mention all the Iron Maiden videos in my collection, or all the Manowar, Deep Purple etc... but the ones above are really the cream of the crop IMHO - if you've seen California Jam or Maiden England, there's no scope for impovement, as good as these bands' other videos might be.

Ah yes the minstrel stuff... amazing what an old fart will get duped into when a big-titted blonde half his age has a word in his ear.
