Lots of talk about this one, but as a comedy, its nothing special.
I dont mind Owen Wilson, but this isnt a movie that will be remembered too fondly. A typical Kate Hudson movie, very similar to "How to Lose a Guy in 10 days"

I gathered that from the ad. You know something is going to be bad when the best thing on the commercial is Kate Hudson's ass.

Which was also the best part of the movie ;)

Almost worth the admission price alone.
Not a great movie, had a few laughs, but they were few and far between.

Im not particularly fond of Matt Dillon, think hes a terrible actor and was hoping he wouldnt end up with Kate Hudson.

I didn't mind watching it but it lacked substance and the ending was shocking.

Just an absolute mess of a film to be honest. Why would they go to all the trouble of obscuring the "Mandy" character's face and then have him raving on about she is the one for him. Then not show that character for the rest of the film - smells of vital scenes being cut at the last minute and being rushed.
The Father in law is a superfluous character that gets too much airtime and has to much stake in a threadbare plot.
IMO the only funny part is the end when he jumps in the air and comes down on his ankle. At the point of the movie you could show the football in the groin to make me laugh.

Up there with Date Movie?
It's an Owen Wilson film so expectations of crapness were always going to be there.

Nothing can go close to Date Movie for sheer crapiness.
That was torture sitting through that movie.

I didn't mind it all that much. Although some parts were VERY badly done, it did seem to be rushed. For the most part though it wasn't that bad to me. Wouldn't watch it again, propably not worth my money, but the current state of movies considered... well you know, Little Man, Date Movie, My Super Ex... this one isn't as bad as those!
The movie was okay for a few laughs. The problem was that Matt Dillon was miscast. It's not he's a bad actor because he's not - it's just that he normally portrays charcters that are unlikeable. He usually plays the bad guy.
And therein lies the problem. In this film he gets the girl. But Dupree was the likeable character who we "root for" to get the girl. How could we be excited about seeing an unlikeable charcter end up with the chick?
I'd prefer to have seen someone like, say, Luke Wilson in the role of the husband. Even Adam Sandler would have been a top choice.
Anyone else agree with this?

Definetly, whenever i see Dillon i can only remember his character in Crash, where hes the policeman that gropes the woman.
I wanted Dupree to end up with Kate Hudson, he was definetly the more likable character.

I wanted the wife to blow her own brains out about 3/4's of the way through the film. That would've been the comic twist this **** of a film needed.

Yeah I do.
I thought it was an ok movie. Better than I expected and what I had heard, a good way to spend a Tuesday arvo. Kate Hudson = HOT, and going against what others think... Owen Wilson = ONe funny bloke.

The dead giveaway that this film was going to be a stinker was when they brought out Hudson and Wilson to do a huge publicity campaign here. It's done badly in the US and UK, and this is the only nation where it's been #1 at the box office.
Judging by the ads, it looks like a steaming pile of crud.
BTW Was it Steely Dan that were annoyed about the title being indirectly taken from one of their songs?
