that was the 49th over

2 6 6 6 6 1

and to think he was dropped by harris on the 5th ball of the 48th over :D :D :D

catch that, and the total may have been about 240.

Australia are in trouble. If SA get the bonus point by restricting NZ to 216 or less, AUS must win with a bonus point on Sunday to make the finals.

Best for Australia is for NZ to pull the finger out and win tonight.

Hate to say it but the best thing will be for the Aussies to miss out. That way the selectors might realise the team needs changes if they want to realistically compete for the world cup next year.

This is a very interesting situation and lets hope New Zealand bat well and get more than 217 tonight.

Not necessarily, r + b. Australia's run rate was already in front of NZ before tonight and if it keeps going the same way tonight, (NZ currently 8/158, 39th over), will be further in front. They only need win on Sunday to get in, even without the bonus point. SA should be in now, if any can ever be certain in cricket after Tuesday night. :D

Sorry but u r wrong. If the points end up like this: SA 18, NZ 17, AUS 17, then AUS will miss out.

Why? Because the win/loss record between NZ and AUS is a determinant before net run rate is (check the rules on cricinfo).

NZ leads AUS 3-1, so NZ will qualify for the finals ahead of AUS.

Sad but true. Stupid but true. That's the ridiculous rules.

Is that right? What a f*ckin' sh*t system that is. It's been based run rate for years, why go and change it now??

Sorry about that mate, I was still thinking it was based on tha old system.

yeah. until this series there were never bonus points. it's looking close but surely NZ will fall short of 217.

i think we need to pick as many batsmen as possible for Sunday. Bat second we have to win in 40 overs, bat first and we have to severly restrict SA. Rather bat second, let our batsmen control our destiny.

It is an interesting scenario as to whether the Aussies should bat or bowl first (if Waugh wins the toss) to best achieve the bonus point. All the bonus points so far have been earned so far by batting first, so I would probably favour that & hope the likes of Gilly score heaps & @ a quick rate & hopefully post 280+ (as the WACA wicket looked a good deck).
