View Full Version : Paul Medhurst
Rumor on SEN, Paul Medhurst is looking for another club next year, two rumored clubs that he is looking to go to are West Coast and Melbourne.
Apparently we almost got him last year, would we want him next year?
Don't know enough about him. Mainly for the fact that they're hardly ever on TV down here.

Short answer is NO
I certainly hope WE DO NOT recruit Paul Medhurst.
I'd rather have Aka, he would be more value, even at 30 years of age.
I wouldnt mind Medhurst a change of club for him would be good. I would rather Aker but if we dont get him we should look at medhurst he wouldnt cost us that much.

Just what the captain needs every time he goes for a mark, Robbo crashing into him from one side and Medhurst from the other.

see now this would be a great time to use medhurst since now davey and pickett are injured!! he would smoothly into a forward pocket

Where would we play Medhurst. He looks out of place as a crumbing forward and alredy have Neitz and Robertson to play out of the goalsquare where he looks most comfortable at Fremantle. Hovever he has his fair share of talent and I think he would be great in a similar role to that of Ryan O'Keefe for Sydney and Kayne Petiffer for Richmond. That leading forward up the ground. Providing he has the engine to play this role I think that he would be great at Melbourne so long as it is at the right price.

Youd rather have Aker? what is wrong with u ... why would u prefer a player who is arguably the most naturally gifted player in the entire competition over a young player who is struggling to have an impact??? I cant figure u out!
Of course everyone would prefer Aker, the trouble is alot of teams will want him and it will take alot to get him. Medhurst could b picked up for a 2nd-3rd rounder... i'd say go for it - if Pickett worked out for yas why not give Medhurst a go ...

As Stoney said, it wouldnt take much to get Medhurst and i agree with the Pettifer/O'Keefe role suggestion.
Also, with Davey playing up the ground more and more, we need a good crumber in the forward 50, those two in tandem could do some damage.

he was pretty average for claremont on the w/end.
potential to be very good though.

Why would we want a lazy forward? 6 goals in a game once a year isn't what the team would be after.

A girlier, less talented version of Jeff Farmer.
Sometimes I watch him play and it's like there is a circus in his brain and he is the main act.
Please keep that tool away from our football club.

My sentiments exactly. He's alrite at getting the ball, but once he gets it, doesn't have a clue about what to do with it.

There was a similar response when Byron Pickett was touted as coming to the Dees. If he does come, hopefully he can do as well as Byron has.

He is not a crumber he's an undersized marking forward and we have a better one.

A poor mans Robo!
With a bit of Potential.
Who would be more hungier to kick a goal? Robo or Medhurst?

He'd be the worst recruit possible. Plays for himself. Do you think sides like Sydney or Adelaide would take him? No way! Plays for himself, no heart at all.
Do people remember a one Gary Moorcroft???:thumbsd:

His though process when he gets the ball is a little bit like this:
"don't handball, don't handball, don't handball, don't handball, don't handball, don't handball, don't handball, don't handball, don't handball, don't handball, don't handball, don't handball" etc.
Lock the man out of the club, definitely do not want him

Rubbish.
People saw potential in Byron, and he certainly had the runs on the board in the past even if he was coming off a crap season.
Medhurst is a selfish small marking forward who has never even played in a winning final team let alone won a Norm Smith.
No comparison at all really.

The only reasons I can see for having any interest in Medhurst are:
1 - We want to play Davey off a wing for longer periods of time, and once Sylvia pushes into the middle on a more regular basis, we need a smaller player down there, and;
2 - Robbo isn't getting any younger (28?), and we want a replacement of sorts. I still remember his early years when he was a pretty selfish, small marking forward. I'm not saying that Medhurst will be anything like Robbo, but he has kicked a few goals in his time.
Only want him for a 3rd rounder or less though.
Why would we go after a bloke who can't get a game at Fremantle?
He is sh*t and selfish.
Leave him at Freo so he can worry more about goal celebrations with Headland and Farmer than getting the 4 points.

He needs to get out of Perth.
Do you have any reason behind that? As far as I know he's not like Polak, who has off-feild trouble which a change of scerery would help with.
BTW, I like the O'Keefe comparison.

Medhurst has been struggling recently even at in the WAFL. He has lost all confidence and has the yips kicking at goal. So no celebrations from him recently :p

I dont mean it as that he is having off-field trouble, but hes never really dealt with having Farmer at the club as they have never performed well together and one of them has to go, Medhurst is looking the likely one to go at this stage.
A change of scenery for any disgruntled player will do them good, look at how well Vardy went for us after coming over from Adelaide.
