We can't blame Stephen Fleming & his team for choosing to conceed the bonus point last night. Those are the rules of the series and all 3 teams play to those rules. Whether it is good for the game of cricket to have things like last night happening is debatable, but the fact is that this system is in and New Zealand have played them to their advantage.
Does anyone remember what we did in the 1999 World Cup??? We were playing the West Indies in the last game before the Super Six part and it was out of West Indies & New Zealand as to who went through to the next stage. Australia wanted West Indies to make it, as we would have 2 more points than if New Zealand made it in the Super Six phase. After bowling West Indies out for about 110, we used "go slow" tactics and won in the 45th over, trying to preserve the West Indies run rate.
Interestingly, our tactics didnt work as New Zealand thumped Bangladesh and made the Super Six anyway.
Lets hope New Zealand's tactics backfire and we beat South Africa and get the bonus point, thus sending the Kiwis home packing!!
