Who do you think will be England's Spin bowler come Ashes time?

Fletcher seems to want Giles, will he get his way?

Giles, he can bat too and field

Monty can only rip the heart out of a batting line up.

England have been after a world class spinner for a long time, now they have one, and want to go back to a mediocre bowler, who can hold a bat. Their batting is not THAT weak that they need another batsman down the order.

But what is the point of having Giles shore up the lower order if you're chasing more runs because of his ineffective bowling? The other cricket disciplines should influence all things being equal but essentially you should select who's your best specialist in a particular area.

He's taking the ****, as indicated by the rest of his post.

Giles shouldn't be classified as a spin bowler, spin bowlers spin the ball

Did you see Monty's catch in the test just finished!!! And a sublime cover drive... Come Ashes 2009 he will be a competent number 8. I'd be tempted to go with Gilo this year BUT he has to be 100% fit and Freddie and Si Jones/Anders have to play...

If the question is who will be England's spinner during the Ashes, the answer is obviously Giles. However if it is who is the better bowler/player then it is already Panesar and by a long long way.

I really doubt that it would be Giles, I know there has been all this talk about Fletcher prefering Giles over Monty, but after all of this and the support behind Monty he wont be dropped, mark my words. :thumbsu:

If Monty gets drop for Giles, then that would be the literal death of spin bowling in England

Drop a world class spinner for a bloke who's a worse bowler than Michael Vaughan, go figure

As much as I love The King of Spain we'd be nuts not to pick Panesar.

What a difference a week makes, Duncan Fletcher has now acknowledged that Monty as the best finger spinner on the planet and it sounds like Gilo will have a fight to get back into the Test side (rightly so, cos Monty has an outstanding start to his test career). I think if the king of Spain is fit he should only be used when there are 2 spinners warranted - otherwise Monty is THE potential match winning spinner.

Reckon that old fart only said something so asskissing and ego-flattening coz he got a convenient nudge from someone in ECB

The old **** wouldn't come around that quickly, watch him throwing the daggers in as soon as Monty stops performing
