Just saw the end of the Channel 10 news where they were going over their main stories. Said that they had revealed that Mick Malthouse may have been suffering a serious health issue?

Did anyone see the story and if so what's going on?

Hmmm all of a sudden perhaps Brad Hardie's don't look so stupid.

haha I just made a thread for this in Bay 13. Word has it that earlier in teh season he might have suffered a mild heart attack/stroke which was reported on SEN. Obviously we do not know if it was true or not at the time.

But it is coinciding with Eddie McGuire stepping down as Pies president at seasons end

Good Luck Mick:thumbsu:

of course they are going to deny it, coming straight from Eddies mouth. There wont be any official news until AFTER he has stepped down, it's obvious surely

They denied the heart murmor saying it was just some mild case of something else. They aint that good at covering things up. They might aswell say it's the Windy Hill Flu or something

Apparently the club is seriously looking at former captain, Mark Williams, as the next coach if Malthouse doesn't return next season.

Williams stated late last year or early this year he'd love to coach the pies. Of course It might be him from next season then Buckly in 4 right ?

I would hate for Williams to coach Collingwood...

Would prefer a young coach (McKenna, Lyon, etc) than Williams.

Williams blames his players too often.

of course he will deny it, he wouldn't want to put th epies in jepody now would he. Expect sometime after the end of the season he will step down with an OFFICIAL Press Conference, also it coincides with Eddie's standing down of the Pies presidency.

Magpies deny Malthouse health rumours
Thursday August 10, 8:03 AM

AAP

Collingwood coach Mick Malthouse is experiencing health problems which might prompt him to quit AFL football after this season, it has been claimed.

Malthouse, who turns 53 next week, is in his 23rd season as a coach but is no guarantee to continue coaching in 2007.

The claim was reported on Channel Ten, where Malthouse's daughter Christi is employed as a sports presenter.

She had no on-air involvement in the story.

Collingwood issued a statement emphatically denying the report, which it labelled incorrect, and Magpies president Eddie McGuire also dismissed the claim.

According to Ten's report on Malthouse, Collingwood is concerned over its coach's health and has been monitoring his well-being since Anzac Day, when he spent the night in hospital with what the club reported was a stomach problem.

Collingwood beat Essendon that day.

It has since been speculated Malthouse has been battling ill-health all season, and that combined with McGuire's possible departure in an official capacity might cause a major upheaval at Collingwood after this season.

McGuire, the president since 1999 and the man who lured Malthouse to the Magpies the following year, was appointed chief executive of the Nine Network earlier this year and is now based in Sydney.

But a spokeswoman for McGuire said Collingwood "would not be responding to issues which aren't true".

McGuire was unavailable for comment and Collingwood chief executive Greg Swann could not be contacted.

Collingwood issued a statement which read: "The Collingwood Football Club strongly denies, as incorrectly reported in Channel Ten's evening news, that its coach Michael Malthouse is in ill heath and may be unable to continue coaching in 2007."

Malthouse is scheduled to hold a press conference on Thursday at 11.30am (AEST), ahead of the Magpies' round 19 game against Essendon on Friday night.

Malthouse is contracted to coach at Collingwood until the end of 2007, while McGuire is yet to commit himself to continuing the presidency next season.

The speculation over Malthouse's health is the latest pre-finals distraction at Collingwood and comes a week after it was revealed Magpies Chris Tarrant and Ben Johnson were involved in a pub brawl in the early hours of July 30.

He has confirmed he has a health issue but denies its serious enough to affect his ability to perform his duties. Speculation I expect will continue indefintely.

Article today by Herald Sun, McKenna could be our next coach. I think he will be better than Williams

Can McKenna actually pick talent?

If he’s going to coach us I certainly hope so. How the F can you tell before they sack the wrong bloke and recruit a few duds though? I’ll tell you who can spot talent though. Kevin Sheedy. How many decent players ley alone stars has he let go and how many good players has he brought in? Get a great young talent spotter and a coach that can judge exposed players and you can build a great list. I reckon Sheedy has been let down by the former in recent years. We have had neither for a very long time although perhaps we have something toward the former now. I reckon Williams isn’t a bad judge either but whether I want him at Collingwood is another matter. He’s a strange and difficult person.

So Monfries, Stanton, and Dyson aren't good enough?
I think you've looked at it the wrong way. How about these 'recycled's over the past few years:
Murphy
Camporeale
Allen
Zantuck
Cole <--- still has time

If you ask any Essendon supporter, they'll say the recruiting people have lost the plot in the past five years by drafting too many 'recycled's that go nowhere, and not enough kids like those mentioned above. Anyways, who cares who they recruit, just as long as they aren't good enough to win tonight! :p

So Monfries, Stanton, and Dyson aren't good enough? Not sure yet to be honest but at this point they aren’t the players impacting the overall performances like the players drafted in, say, 2000 to 2003. In any case they are only 3 players only. I think you've looked at it the wrong way. How about these 'recycled's over the past few years:
Murphy
Camporeale
Allen
Zantuck
Cole <--- still has time Not a great look is it. Depends a lot on what they cost. I don't stress that much about the recyled players we've taken in the PSD.
