Oh what a day...WHAT A GREAT DAMN DAY. Friday was twice as good as Melbournes....an awesome AWESOME Big Day Out.

My Big Day Out started at 12:30 with Drowning Pool. The generic nu-metallers from Dallas Texas. They went off. Altho their cd is rather generic, their live show is spot on, and their songs find something that was missing on the cd. A good start to the day. Their 45 minute set started with Pity and went thru Reminded, All Over Me, Follow, I am, Sinner, Tear Away and finished with their hit single Bodies.

After they finished i headed off to the Boiler Room to catch DJ Brendan. WOW!!! Thats all i have to say. I caught up with my mates in the Boiler Room and we all danced in amazement and how bloody good his set was. Hard House at its best....was almost the hilight of the day for me...was amazing. The most danceable set of Hard House ive ever heard. After he finished Infusion started their set. Two guys on mixers and one on the synths they were fantastic as well. They played one helluva set. They werent as good as DJ Brendan, but they were only an inch behind. Infusion were one of the bgiger attractions of the Boiler Room and they didnt dissapoint. Their mix of Breakbeats and Hard House worked very very well.
After Infusion finished we walked around for 15-20 minutes, looking at the unbelivable talent of the Adelaide Females (i lost count the amount of times i went  .)

Grinspoon were the next band on the list, and after the stuff up in Melbourne i decided to stay outside the D for them. I watched about 30 minutes of their set which was very good. We left before the end of their set to catch local rock act The Killchoir Project. They are probably my favourite local band and they played one absolutly killer set. With a few songs of their EP No Love For The Haters[i] the small crowd around the Essential stage got moving. After 20 minutes of Killchoir Project we went back to the Boiler Room to catch Breakbeat/Jungle act Kosheen. With a female vocalist, a bass player, drummer and keyboardist, they were great. Very bouncy, danceable breakbeats with amazing female vocals. For 20 minutes i was dancing in the same spot when the chick next to me grabbed my arm and pulled me round. I thought "what the hell do you want?"...when after about 30 seconds of staring at each other we figured out who we were. It was a chick i used to work with who i havent seen for about 8-9 months. So we gave each other a big hug and went to the back of the Boiler Room to have a chat and indulge in some...things. After meeting up with my old work friend, we went back to watch the end of Kosheen who kicked arse. GT was on next who provided the Boiler Room with a good mix of Hard House and Trance. Playing tracks like Fatboy Slims [i]Star 69 the Boiler Room went off. We only stayed for about 15-20 minutes of his set before heading off to the Java Java stage to catch American hip-hopers Jurassic5. Now i hate Hip Hop/Rap, and im said that hear a number of times...but *** they were brilliant. It was more what RnB should be like instead of Hip Hop. The mixers were nothing short of exceptional ant the MC's were great. They were nearly the hilight of my day.

After J5 finished we all headed back to the Boiler Room to catch the end of Stephen Allkins set. WOW again. We caught 30 minutes of his set and he was simply amazing. I dunno what i could class it as...but it was hard and it was quick. Some major quick beats made everyone dance like a crazy man for his entire set. After he finished we made our way to the front of the Boiler Room for one of the major attractions of the Big Day Out. US Breakbeat specialists Crystal Method. They were very very good as well. I caught 30 minutes of their set, and i was dancing like crazy. They were bloody good and got the crowd revved up. The Lighting seemed to stuff up for about 10 minutes where Crystal Method couldnt see what they were doing so they had to stop for 5-6 minutes until some people with torches came on stage to help them out. They started again and 2-3 minutes later the lighting came back to a massive roar from the Boiler Room crowd. Unfortunatly i had to leave the Boiler Room to go to the main stage to catch my favourite ever band The Prodigy.
After getting my spot a little bit back from the D...New Order thankfully finished on time (unlike going over for 30 minutes like in Melbourne grrr) and on came some MC for Prodigy.
"Who wants it?" he said to a roar from the crowd...."I SAID WHO FUKING WANTS IT??"...."STRAIGHT FROM THE UK, PUT YOUR HANDS TOGETHER ADELAIDE FOR..THE PROODIIGGGYYY" to which case i lost the plot and screamed louder than ever before. After a little intro from The Kinks "Girl..i want to be with you, all the time" and then into this military type drumming (similar to the start of the show Jag)....then God himself, Liam Howlett walked on stage....a few moments later Maxim walked on stage to the roar of the Adelaide faithful.
Then the military drumming stopped and Maxim said "ha ha, how you FUKING DOING ADELAIDE"...to which the low bass start of Their Law started to the cheers of the crowd. Then ex Prodigy, Pitchshifter and now Prodigy again Guitarist Jimmy Davies hit it on the guitar while Maxim revved up the crowd. Soon the beat kicked it, helped along by drummer Kieron Pepper, and the crowd jumped like crazy....20,000+ people jumping like crazy in unison was a mindblowing sight to see. Soon the lyrics kicked in "Im the law, but you cant beat the law, Im the law but you cant beat the law, Im the law but you cant beat the law...*** EM AND THEIR LAW"....then the guitar kicked in again. My stomach dropped and i burst into tears as seeing my favourite ever band again was just too much for me to handle at that stage. After the second chorus...the now famous Maxim line of "i wanna see this whole place jumping......JUMP" as the beat starts again seriously the whole crowd was jumping up and down....turning around while jumping every single person in front of me, in the mosh pit, to both sides, behind me and literally every single person in the grand stands were jumping up and down....simply an unbelivable sight to see.
Thier Law finished to the massive roar of the crowd, as Liam went straight into new song Trigger. A catchy tune which follows on from the slower breakbeaty nature of Fat Of The Land . A very good tune i reckon, which had good crowd response as well...it will most likely be the first single of upcoming album Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned. Has a catchy lyric "one....to the two to the three". A good tune. Next came arguably The Prodigy's biggest ever hit Breathe. A classic yet overplayed track....everyone again in the crowd went nuts...and it was a friendly crowd..no pushing, no shoving, everyone had thier own space to jump and dance in...which was good :)
The back and forth lyrics of Maxim and crazyman Keith Flint "Breath the pressure, come play my game ill test ya, psycho-somatic, addict insane....breathe the pressure, come play my game ill test ya, psycho....somatic addict INSANE...CCOOOMMMMEEE PLLAAAYYY MMYYYY GAAAMMMEEE". You could hear the crowd sing along with Come Play My Game, was amazing :D :D.
After Breathe they played another new track...which i shall name Babys Got A Temper. Its a very downtuned, downbeat track slow track, with Keith on vocals. His vocal style has improved 100% and in this track he doesnt have that whiny voice that he has in Serial Thrilla, Breathe or Firestarter. the addictive chorus line of "Babys got a teemmpppeerrrr quickly became a crowd favourite.
After that song finished....THE crowd favourite of the day came on...Smack My Bitch Up. I love this track. It isnt my favourite Prodigy track...but it is definatly the best live song ive ever heard from any band. "Who in here tonight wants to hear some bass?"...."i said who in hear tonight wants to hear some bass?"...the answer that followed was the entire crowd jumping in unison on the first BOOM of the first beat. "WOW...WOW......WOWWOW....WOW....CHANGE MY PITCH UP, SMACK MY BITCH UP..WOW". Nothing but pure energy from the crowd. It was different tho as Smack My Bitch Up has now become a duel lyrical feast with both Maxim and Keith instead of just Maxim. The slow asian female vocal chant started and the crowd swayed their hands in the air. Then the beat started getting momentum...everything bought to a head "SMACK MY BITCH UP" to which the whole crowd jumped in unison for the first beat again. The whole time i had tears down my face thru the sheer joy of seeing the Prodigy again.
After Smack My Bitch Up finished to loud applause from the gracious Adelaide crowd they went into another new song. Named Nuclear the song is nothing like any other song made by The Prodigy before. It is almost like a Sex Pistols tribute...a punkish song with a bit of a breakbeat. Was good...the crowd were sorta stunned as it was completly different to anything heard before, but it got a reasonable reception at the end. The song has become more dancey over time (the Adelaide show was the 7th airing of the song) as it was a full on punk song. " IVE NEVER SEEN SUCH A FUKING CROWD IN MY LIFE.....I OWE MY LIFE TO YOU" Maxim yelled.
The song finished and another Fat Of The Land classic came on in Mindfields...the mystical starting thumping beats with the strange synth noise that follows got the crowd moving. "This is dangerous.....open up your hea dfeel the shellshock....this is dangerous....i walk thru mindfields so watch your head rock" rang around the stadium as the crowd started dancing to the song.
After Mindfields finished Liam went into a track that not many people would of ever heard of before. It is a song called Benny Blanco which has a sample vocal from a movie (cant remember the name) which goes "hey remember me.....Benny Blanco from the Bronx". Im lucky enough to have this song on mp3 on a rare cd i got...its a very good dancey track with some quick breakbeats. Ive never been so shocked in my life as when he started playing that song. Was great.
After that Maxim got everyone revved up for one of the favourite Jilted Generation tracks Poison. The slow synth noise started up and the crowd went sick. "Everybody jump...right now...BRING ME THE POISON....YAAAAA....WOOHOOO....BRING ME THE POISON...BRING ME THE POSION...I GOT THE POISON...BRING ME THE POISON....WAAAAA..BOOM...HAHA " screamed Maxim as the crowd once again jumped in unison to the magical beats of Poison. Everyone screamed out the chorus to let out the most amazing noise ive heard "I GOT THE POISON, I GOT THE REMEDY, I GOT THE PULSATING RYTHMICAL REMEDY...I GOT THE POISON, I GOT THE REMEDY, I GOT THE PULSATING RYTHMICAL REMEDY". Simply...a classical track.
Then the second most popular Prodigy track of all time started up in Firestarter.
Maxim went off stage and gave Keith and Jimmy Davies centre stage as the guitar riff for the song started up. The crowd yelled and raised their hands in the air. The fast beats started and the crowd jumped like crazy..."Im a trouble starter...Punkin Instigator" Keith screeched into the mic as the crowd went off....he asked everyone to sing along to the chorus...so being good citizens we are, we obliged "IM A FIRESTARTER, TWISTED FIRESTARTER" everyone yelled.
The song went off...the crowd went off....and then for the finale....Maxim came back on stage to jump around while Keith did the vocals for the final track...the energetic rock track Fuel My Fire. "People like you just fuel my fiiirrreee....people like you just DO.....YA LIAR" Kieth yelled as the crowd went nuts for the last time. The Prodigy had finished. Altho it wasnt the best set....(i would kill anyone to hear Break n Enter and No Good) it was still amazing. The Prodigy had gone off stage....and I cried. I cried tears of absolute as the greatest live band to ever walk the earth left their mark on Adelaide forever....me and my best mate (who got into the Prodigy the same time as me...and weve had many nights at our houses just dancing to the Prodigy tunes together in our rooms) just looked at each other...both with tears in our eyes and we just hugged each other. It was amazing. The Prodigy had hit us both more than any other band in the world...and we got to share the best damn experience ever with each other. Was amazing. After i stopped the tears from flowing, we all went back to the Boiler Room to see the last half of Dave Clarke's set which was similar in style to Stpehen Allkins set. Was a great way to finish what had been one kickass, awesome, fantastic, magnificent day.
I got tosee The Prodigy for the second time in the week...and they were 5x better in Adelaide than in Melbourne.

WOW - WHAT A GREAT DAY!!!!

Tears in your eyes? My friend and I used to dance in my bedroom?

Anything you want to tell me Macca? Not that there's anything wrong with that.;)

ps. Yours is the only good report I've heard about Prodigy at the BDO.

really??? Ive read a couple of good reports from fans that went to a few different BDOs. One came all the way from Switzerland to follow Prodigy down the Big Day Outs...she reckons the only poor one was Auckland.

Good stuff Mac, 12:30? C'mon thats an insult DP should be playing much later and you know it. I actually quite like their CD, very well produced, Bodies kicks serious arse! Bet the crowd loved it. I'm hopeing to go and see them when they come back to Oz in a few months since I didn't want to go to the BDO and pay a kings ransom to see three bands.
