View Full Version : What is this "queue"
Apparently asylum seekers in Australia are "queue-jumpers"
Can someone please tell me where you join this queue?

My family and I joined it 12 years ago in London. I understand it forms at various points around the globe, but the intended front of the queue is the legal right to permanent residency in Australia.
I understand some of the worst queue jumpers are poms and kiwis.

Watch out Fat Red-you are straying into the realms on un-Australianism.
There are some huge queues around the world that people( Sorry asylum seekers) can join. The only problem is that the queues arent moving.
If the queues aren't moving then it's because of queue jumpers taking thie place. I believe we have a budget of around 30,000 refugees a year and 80,000 immigrants. All places are taken. Even as a person applying to migrate with police checks, medicals and all taken in the country of origin and taking up to 12 months or more to process. If you have a prison record or fail the medical then you don't get in.
Now if it takes 12 months for people with all the paperwork, police reports from their country etc, how long for those who destroyed all their documents before coming here?

30, 000 refugees a year? I doubt if Australia had a 'budget' of half that - let alone how many refugees Australia takes. I doubt even the dubious figures that were bandied around in the mainstream press last year to show how "compassionate" the Australian government is rose to that amount.
The queue:
According to some UN charter I though Australia is "supposed" to take in 6000 refugees a year.
That is 6000 souls as part of those official UN resettlement programs.
The queue-jumpers:
Of course that number doesn't include those that turn up unannounced.
For a New Zealand comparision NZ is assigned 750 refugees annually, but approximately 700 people turned up last year at New Zealand Airports and claimed refugee status completely independently from any organised refugee program.
So New Zealand has to process the 750 plus the 700, while only wanting to budget for 750.
I guess the pressure would be even greater on the Australian authorities.
Mind you some of you should remember there is a big difference between immigration and being a refugee.

There are a lot of statistics in the ABS site if you're interested (I don't have time now).

Queue jumpers are scum and shouldn't even be allowed the right to "detention centers".
Me and my family spent several years trying to get into australia, and that was despite the fact that all members of my family can speak english fluently(not FOB style), and my parents had "in demand" qualifications. It didn't take long because we weren't allowed in, its because there's a lot to be organised.
So these "refugees" in the detention centres who had to wait 2yrs should count themselves lucky. They got fed, clothed and accommodated, while others trying to get in legally had to do it all with their own money and sometimes took longer to get here.
Frodo,
I'm not saying these people haven't destroyed their documents, but from now on I'm going to want a lot more evidence than the Government's word on it before I believe it. I don't want us all going down the "they threw their children overboard" road again.
After all, who knows what Howard's advisers have told him about it. ;)

that's easy, you join it in predominantly white christian countries with good ties to Australia and goverments that will actually LET you leave their not-particularly-horrible rule. Those bloody "asylum-seekers' actually have the nerve to try and destroy this beautiful country we live in by being dark muslims from countries that dont like Australia and wont let people escape from their oppresive reigns of terror. Send them all back i say, we dont like their type here

Is there a 'queue' in a country run by an oppressive regime?
I bet the local authorities would be more than happy to let you join it.
