A strange one. I'm nowhere near as livid as last week. A few points in random order
Our disposal was bad but that's the result of playing a very good team who puts on constant pressure. We must be better come finals
Can't fault commitment. Our boys came to play and our tackling pressure was very good. I don't think we ever gave up
Sydney played smarter than us. We bombed away up forward and couldn't get passed half-forward.
Jared Rivers was absolutely sensational
The ruckman we dumped gave Jeff White a towelling. Consequently they won the clearances
As a result of the ruck domination, they killed us in the midfieldNow a brief player review
Neitz - 7 - did well considering he had limited opportunities
Miller - 3 - started well. Went missing
White - 3 - Given an absolute bath by Jolly
Ward - 4 - meh
Bate - 6 - tried hard and did some good things. One of our betters
Dunn - 0 - no influence
Rivers - 9 - Our best by a mile
Carroll - 6 - quite good but one bad brain implosion in the third
Holland - 5 - not a bad effort
Green - 5 - OK but skills were terrible
Yze - 1 - Almost unsighted
Jones - 6 - Some really promising signs. Good in tight
Jamar - 3 - no real influence again
Godfrey - 4 - typical Godfrey, tried but disposal let him down. Wasn't alone
McLean - 4 - very little influence. Is he injured?
Motlop - 4 - Looked dangerous at times but never got into the game
Bruce - 7 - started extremely well but faded
Bartram - 3 - came into the game a bit in the third.
C.Johnson - 2 - I honestly don't remember him doing much
Ferguson - 6 - Good comeback game. Started shakily but he went well
McDonald - 7 - One of best as usual but even he was a bit down
Brown - 5 - was OK

If i have to be completely honest. Melbourne were ok, but it looked like the Swans were in 3rd gear. Our delivery in our disposals was poor at times and i think the scorleline flattered the Demons. We dominated general play and the accuracy of the Demons helped keep the scoreline close. We weren't really good in defence and it allowed the Demons to sneak a few goals in there.
However, i don't watch the Demons week in week out so there could be a few counter-arguments and i know you were missing a few key players, but i think the Demons desperately need those injured players back for next week to get their season back on track, make no mistake. Is it fair to say the Demons are in a bit of trouble? A few tricky fixtures ahead for you guys.
How about we just trade home grounds, you seem to always beat us in Melbourne and we beat you in Sydney.

Sydney killed us every facet of the game.
Ruck division, clearances, defensive pressure and numbers at the ball.
If that game had've been played in the early 90's Sydney would've won by 100+ points.

We were dominated everywhere except the scoreboard. That should have been a very ugly 80 odd point loss if Sydney were switched on/we weren't so accurate going for goal.
Top 4 now gaaaaaawn.

Fair surmation there.
We had TJ, Flash and Choppy out. TJ would have had a hard tag and probably been serviceable at best, but Choppy and Flash are the guys we really needed as they have the capability to carve up the Swans (IMO without Crouch there is no-one to go with them) and we missed them.
Also without those three and Moloney the delivery into our forwardline was terrible again. Full credit to the Swans though who looked very dangerous at times.

Schneider could have minded Davey. He might even have got the nod over Crouch had they all been playing.
Not sure that either team learns too much from that game other than the fact it is hard to win against a decent opponent when half your best dozen players are injured. I thought the Swans were workmanlike today, rather than brilliant and Melbourne's defence can take a lot of credit for the fact that the Swans weren't able to translate their midfield domination, especially in the second half, into a really telling score. In recent weeks Sydney have been guilty of butchering easy scoring chances but today it was more that Melbourne made their angles tougher and didn't allow many easy crumbs.

Just wanted to comment on the performance of Rivers, who was, once again, absolutely fabulous against us. I think I counted 5 marks backing back bravely into a pack with the flight of the ball, and kept the in form O'Keefe relatively quiet too at the same time. Wonderful player to watch!

We had 30 inside 50's. Our forwardline can't be blamed, our disposal was obviously crap. I only listened to the game on radio cos i had to play on saturday and couldn't get to the G, and it was the most frustrating game to listen to. Sydney take the ball from one end to the other, hitting 15 targets in a row and kick a point. Melbourne from the kick in, oh turnover, sydney goal.
Anyway, nothing to stress about, Geelong will knock off St.Kilda and the Swannies will end their finals hopes next week, setting up an easy game against geelong at geelong when hopefully they are tanking for draft picks, and hopefully the roos do next week, and adelaide realise that if they finish 2nd they still get 2 home finals but get a higher draft pick and we are set! :D

Lol I don't think it's gonna happen mate...Me thinks the Saints are home and dry. Although I believe the Roos game should be a comfortable win and then the Geelong game will be a tough task but it's not to say we can't win given they have nothing to play for anymore. And if Freo can beat the Crows...Well then I spose anythings possible innit?
Just like to send my praise to Jared who should be made coach of the team. And welcome back Miller, he played well, not too shabby at all

Bleh - who actually really thought we would win this game? No, you REALLY thought we would? I tried to be confident but we were never in it really.
I listened to as much as I could, and it seemed like we would never actually get in front and stay there. They were just too good.
Pleasing signs from Rivers, Bate, Jones and Neitz, who I thought did a great job as a lone hand up forward.
Motlop was useless, Dunn and Miller sounded like they did sweet FA and with all the players we had out, we were never going to dispose of it well enough. It's not Neale's fault either, if you don't have the cattle, it's nigh on impossible to win these games.
Can anyone tell me how Daniher used our tall brigade against Sydney? (ie. Holland, Miller, Ferguson, White, Jamar, Rivers, Carroll, Neitz)
Going into the match I thought we were a little top heavy, but I didn't get to watch the game because of my footy commitments.

I could be wrong on a couple, but from memory Holland on was on Hall all game, Ferguson on Grundy, Carroll on O'Loughlin?, Rivers loose man in defense, Leo Barry had Neitz, Miller up at CHF i think.
