They forgot the failed attempts to harness the power of the Hawk, or the taking of 3 million pieces of silver from the bearded Rabbi, which they squandered recklessly.
With the curse of the Hawk and the Rabbi the prospects for the Hobbits seem to be small

I'm told by my friends at Demonland that the Hawk is not a bird that is native to Middle Earth and that episode is long forgotten. As far as the other issue is concerned I quote from Randy's story -
"The spring and the summer had seen the untimely demise of Bolo Bramble of Willowbottom who had once opened his treasure chest and had filled to overflowing the coffers of Ferdirand Loamsdown. "
I have a feeling that Bolo Bramble is the bearded one and that his bank balance might be $3,000,000.00 lighter today compared with five years ago (give or take 10%).
