Then Wakes would not be at fullback, you either have next year as another development year, or we try for a top 8 spot, not 50-50.

Time to put Chad Cornes back in defence AND leave him there.
He repeated his wish to play at CHB at the after-match function as well as on the radio earlier on in the day.

Elijah Ware (unless he does something this year, or is given a second chance)
Toby Thurstans (50-50)
Aaron Shattock
Adam Kingsley

Almost the same as PJ's:

B: Carlile, Wakelin, Wilson
HB: Symes, Chaplin, Surjan
C: Logan, Junior, Salopek
HF: Pearce, White, Senior
F: Ebert, Tredrea, Lade
R: Brogan, Chad, Kane
I: Thomson, Cassisi, Lower, Pettigrew

Emergencies:
Mahoney (Ebert/Pearce)
Thomas (Symes/Lower/Cassisi)
Willits (Bob/Wakes/Chappy/White/Tredrea)
Motlop (Grew/Senior)
Ezard (guts)
Walsh (Wilbur/Surjan)
Deluca (Brogan/Lade)

Just typing out the rest to make sure nobody missed out:
Giles
Minson
Dew
Lonie
Bentley
Looby

Bishop
Thurstans
Rischbieth
Eckers

Francou
Shattock
Wanganeen
Ware
Kingsley

Just can't justify playing 2 ruckman, 2 key forwards, 3 key backs, Chad, Grew and an unaccountable leading forward (Motlop) - I've left out Motlop although that could easily be Grew, and Ebert's only ahead of Mahoney in that tackling forward's role because he's younger - if Motlop can do that better when fully fit he could force them both out.

B : Wilson Chaplin Wakelin
HB : Thomas C. Cornes Symes
C: Pearce K. Cornes Thomson
HF: P. Burgoyne Tredrea Pettigrew
F: Mahoney White Motlop
1R : Lade S. Burgoyne Salopek
Int. : Brogan Ebert Surjan Carlile
Emer. : Deluca Ezard Willits Cassisi

This is a quick first effort, so I'm probably missing someone I should have in.
My criteria were:
1) We need players who will get their own ball - hence Thomson, Salopek, Pearce, Junior B. - our ball magnets in the guts.
2) Hardness - hence Wilson, Thomas, Surjan all in there. And no soft cancers like Lonie.
3) A 3 KPP forward and back structure. Carlile is there on the bench, so the possibility for Chad to go into the centre exists still though.
4) The side isn't deliberately as young as possible, but when two players are close in ability I've taken the younger player. However there's still the old heads of Lade, Tredrea, Mahoney, Senior B., Wilson, C. Cornes and Wakelin, so it's not a 'Hawthorn' type side.
5) I've tried to ensure all bases covered. We have tall and small options. Two good taggers in Surjan and Kane, two good rucks and tough smalls down back. Symes I hope can be the rebounding small.

Yeah, I know where you are coming from.
I think it is a bit of a balance though, and obviously the way the side might start out at round 1 may not continue unchanged throughout the year.

My alternative side and I think this has more merit perhaps, is the same as has been suggested in another post:
to have Chad return to CHB and use both Chaplin and Carlile on the FB line.
That then enables another midfielder to come in to the midfield rotations to replace Chad: perhaps Ezard, Logan or Bentley or a top shelf recruit if we land one this off-season.

The more I think it through, the more I'd like us to resort to that approach.

I guess my general theme though was to use someone like Lower in place of Wilbur in the first instance, depending on Michael's overall form and fitness.

Likewise I'd stick with Lower, Thomas, Surjan, Symes over Lonie and Dew.

I'd love to work Willits into the mix. I think introducing him to CHB would be a little too much if your other 2 tall backs were Chaplin and Carlile.
I have no problem with trying him up forward in place of White, but I have a strong suspicion Choco is growing keener on White and I can't see Mark giving up on his plan to play Damon alongside of Tredrea.

Only one person has got the man who is possibly the all Australian ruckman actually playing in the ruck.

I think Lade and Brogan will still be our number one and two rucks next year. DeLuca will have to work hard to force his way in and when he gets his opportunity through the inevitable injury he'll need to make the most of it. Hope he does enough to demonstrate he's going to be good.

Is Kingers assured of a spot on the list next season? Who'd you keep if it comes to 1 (or 2) out of Walsh, Bishop, Kingsley and Wilson?

**Also with draft picks to come, and IF Carlile is bulked by 2007 move him to Full Back**
**Chocco has accepted the fact the Lonie is soft. And also with Dew missing we're going to need him to boot the ball long into the forward 50**

I like that one. If we went into 2007 with a team like that, being mainly 50-50 in young players and expirence i'm sure we would have a red hot go at making the 8.

Man it is tough. Went through with a few guys tonight, and the best we came up with was 12on the bench. lol. dont think AFL would like that! lol. that was assuming we pick no good player up!!!

B: Domenic Cassisi, Alipate Carlile, Jacob Surjan
HB: Brad Symes, Chad Cornes, Troy Chaplin
C: Steven Salopek, Adam Thomson, Tom Logan
HF: Danyle Pearce, Damon White, Peter Burgoyne
F: Brett Ebert, Warren Tredrea, Daniel Motlop
1R: Brendon Lade, Shaun Burgoyne, Kane Cornes
INT: Dean Brogan, James Ezard, Michael Pettigrew, Nathan Lonie
EMER: Josh Mahoney, Ryan Willits, Greg Bentley

Use Motlop, Ebert and Tredrea as three marking forwards. Have our forward flankers playing on the wing. Kick the ball long inside 50 to one of Tredrea, Ebert or Motlop and have the forward flankers running down towards the goals crumbing the ball in front or behind them. White is our leading forward who leads through the middle of the ground, once he takes the mark he dishes it off to one of the half backs or midfielders and they kick it LONG inside 50.

3 tall backline with Chad, Symes and Chaplin all applying plenty of rebound from the defensive 50.

I have chosen Ezard ahead of Mahoney ATM but things might change depending on pre – season form, etc. Pettigrew goes forward as either a marking forward or a crumbing flanker.

Our midfield will be very strong next year, especially is Shaun can get that little bit fitter and Thommo can add a few kilos to his frame. In 2006 I would seriously consider moving Surjan to a full – time midfield position if he can improve on his kicking skills. He has a lot of Josh Carr in him.

This is a fairly simular gameplan to the one used in 2004. Long, direct, attacking. :thumbsu: :thumbsu:

Looking at that Id prefer to keep Wakelin for 1 more season allow ing Alipate to develop (Ie give Alipate the Bishop role). Leave Chaplin at CHB - prefer to have him continue developing in that role. Let Chad sit at half back when he goes back.

The one thing that side seems to lack is a true crumbing forward. I'm not sure if we have anyone that could develop into the role, or whether there is someone avaiiable come trade time. FYI - I dont consider Ebert of Mahoney as small crumbing forwards but more as small matrking forwards.

It wouldn't bother me if Wakelin was in there ahead of Bob...

Fair enough, I just see Chad attacking straight down the corridor like he did in 04. I did have Chaplin in a back pocket but I thought that he would provide more rebound then Surjan.

FYI - I dont consider Ebert of Mahoney as small crumbing forwards but more as small matrking forwards.

I agree, Ebert is a marking forward but Mahoney is a bit of both. He does take marks but he also knows how to crumb goals.

Thanks for your thoughts... :)
