View Full Version : Future of the Derby: death of the public non-member ticket?

It seems so. I don't know if the Derby is sold out but I feel that a number of factors have made the thrill of going to a Derby out of reach of passionate fans who cant attend every game and choose not to be a member, only in spirit, because its costly and also there is the waiting list at the Eagles, etc...

It is sad, that this is the case and one huge reason why a bigger stadium is an absolute must.

We want something done and quick.

Death of the general public attending a Derby? I think so

A new stadium has been due for years. Sadly the decision makers are only considering it now and the process is moving at snails pace. I'd be surprised to see any expansion of crowd capacity for the general public or the waiting list before 2008/2009. Most WC home games must be the same.

How about we have a cull of all those nanna members who lets say are above 70.

Bolting a few garden chairs to the roof of the three-tier is a quick solution, but it's no substitute for a well-thought-out plan that is at least slightly futureproof.

Better to make 25,000 seats available long-term than 5,000 within a year.

If you know anyone who is a member of either team and is not going, either pay to use their membership for the game, or use a Dockers membership # to buy a ticket in the priority period.

Where were you in the Judge era when there were 4-5,000 memberships available?

yeah tough titties if you aren't a member now, some of us have held these memberships for years, times like this is just due reward for loyal members.

2 things. Firstly not everyone can afford a membership with their income. Not saying heals can't.

Secondly look at his age. He was 10-11 in the Judge era, not much chance of him getting a membership unless his family were all Eagles supporters, which may not be the case.

I get sick of people saying bad luck if you're not a member now because you weren't one back then, not everyone has the time or money to go to every game, but they sure as hell would like to go the occasional game. Cheers:)

Yes it shows terrific loyalty, but some of us are just as passionate and can't afford forking out every year for membership, some of us have to work weekends and are only available to go to the footy only a few times a year.

$$$ don't = passion

I have watched the Eagles for as long as I remember them existing, many are just like me. Some of the fat cats in corporate boxes dont even peer out their window.

Money has become king and I don't like it.

The peoples game? BS

oh boo hoo.

There will always be a small amount of tickets available, that's AFL policy. You want them, get in quick and get them - can't get them? Bad Luck.

The members pay for the chance to go to the games, and pay for priority on tickets for the away Derby. You want better access to tickets, get a membership, can't afford it? can't make it to every game? Bad Luck.

It's not some evil corperate agenda, if you want something that's hard to get, you have to pay for it..

Talking of bolting chairs on the roof

As a short term if not a out of left field solution

Why can't they bolt a reasonable amount of chairs without cover to the top of the Southern stands roof. It has a decent gradient after all

It might sound silly but maybe worth investigating if it is possible

Me and my Dad held memberships from when i was 5 (1995-1999) at that point due to the clubs not very successful era the meberships went up to $200 just for a childs ticket, at that point our family gave up meberships mainly due to we were not attending many games because i had footy. so thats why i didnt hold my membership and thats why im on the waiting list. But every second monday morning i line up in the city at 6:30 queing for tickets. but you say those loyal members, one of those loyal members who re-sells his ticket every week doesnt attend the matches but whats to just sell his tickets to make a profit.

How the hell would they get up there?

There is access to the roof already (For the TV Screen) not that it would be suitable but i'm sure that it wouldn't be impossible.

Just a out of left field suggestion :thumbsu:

How about getting rid of the morons who yell abuse at other fans for standing up when something happens right in front of them? That should clear out a few thousand members. Seriously, if you don't like people standing up at the football stay home and watch it on your tv. People go on about the lack of atmosphere at WC games and I tend to agree having witnessed numerous such morons in my time as a member.

I agree wholeheartedly, you are almost forced to be quiet while watching the game.

Looking foward to coming over for the derby next weekend, as i live in Vic and have connections in high places ;) i got complimentry tickets organised.

EDIT: Upon reading about people abusing people for being loud, they won't want me or my missus near them then, because she fires up and if the have a go at her she will soon tell em where to go.
