OK, I think I can safely say that we're not in the market for guys who have played bugger all games even though they've been on a list for years. If we want to put time into young guys, the only sensible thing is to use our young guys.
If we do make a play, it'll be for a player with real AFL experience, or a recent draftee that we really like.
Someone value plus . . . Cochrane, Lonie . . .

Yeah, exactly. We didn't make a play for either of those, they were lumped in.
Are there good young SA boys that we should try and move heaven and earth to lure home. I'm thinking guys like Griffen and Waters.
Would giving them players such as Thurstans and Dew and a second round draft pick (maybe even first) be a big enough carrot?

Nah. Where would West Coast play Thurstans and Dew? Who are they better than that is in West Coast's 22? Do they have to absorb their contracts?
Our first rounder would probably get Waters. Throwing in Dew and Thurstans would probably weaken the deal, given that West Coast will be looking to manage their salary cap very tightly in the next couple of years.
I reckon we have no show on Griffen, but thats OK because we can get by without him.

Thurstans and Dew might be of interest to the Bulldogs. They lack height. I also think Dew is more highly regarded across the border than he is here.

They don't lack height, they lack uninjured height. Playing Thurstans just slows development of guys like Williams.
Dew is better regarded in Victoria, but no club is going to trade an elite player to get him...if they consider him, it will be as a top-up to a side, not as a real target. Maybe for a fringe player or late pick.

Just trying to offload these guys and get something good in return. Can't blame a man for trying. Do you see any way in which we can get a mid age better than average player into our line up a la a Hardwick/Pickett? - I think the team could benefit greatly from this. I thought Kingsley was a calming influence on the kids on Friday night and I would like to see someone do that sort of role with still plenty of football left in them

It's one or the other then. If you did mean height then they might be interested in Thurstans if they haven't been paying attention to his performances. His somewhat better form in the last few weeks might make them a little more interested. If they happen to be keen they'd want to make that clear early on in trade week because Toby likes Adelaide and doesn't make decisions in a hurry.
If you mispelt and meant weight then Dew might fit the bill. :p

A little off topic but it seems that Aka doesn't want to play for us next year. So that's one name chocco can cross off his wish list.

The national media lies in Melbourne, not Adelaide.

Didn't take long for the Sunday Mail to link Port to Solomon (sorry no link yet - "Port is understood to be interested in Solomon").
Oh and Dimma Hardwick is making come hither eyes at Port ... same article talks of how he would seriously consider coming to Port as an assistant coach (altho no official contact has occurred, only his regular chats with Choco).
