Speaking of web sites, I would appreciate a response to this - see http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=253175&highlight=web+site:

This is a far from inspiring response.

Those that are having difficulties cannot see or listen to ANY (not some) of the audiovisual parts of the club's web site - it is waste of time visiting it.

Did Telstra explain why they suddenly cut-off our access mid-season?

Why didn't they inform you as the owner of the site?

Isn't the contract for these websites being negotiated right now?

Are you making a ironclad commitment that these issues will be sorted and access restored with the new contract?

Thanks

Guido

Genuinely no offence intended here, but is this the appropriate topic?

While you were moderator, if someone hijacked almost every thread started by a club rep to highlight their own issue/agenda, would you have allowed it to continue?

Your frustrations are more than valid - but the club has hundreds of problems and issues it has to deal with every day, a lot of them of far more importance to the long term viability of the club than compatibility issues with their website.

I think it is. They came to promote their website.

Good call Guido - anyway back to the real topic.

If we're playing one in Canberra, Melb is playing one.........when are the other 2 being played and by who? Preseason?

Also - when will the dogs fans get to see a home and away game in Melb against the Swans. We haven't seen one for many a year.....i always like watching the good teams (flag holders) play and we haven't had the opportunity this year.

Most people who've been on this board for a while have started a thread with a link to the official website.

I could start a thread called: "Hahn interview" and provide a link. Technically I'm doing what you're suggesting - promoting the website. But I don't think it should be derailed and become a discussion about the pros and cons of the website itself.

Does this mean we are gauranteed not to play in Sydney?

I am disappointed in the length of the deal. I think it wasn't that long ago that i remember a club official stating that we hoped to be done with selling home games after two more years. Does this suggest that the AFL will not ever allow us to go back to having a full compliment of Melbourne home games?

I guess this year was my one and only time at the Paddington RSL.

Only a little concerned that it actually doesn't say we will be playing Sydney in Canberra! Surely that is what will happen! Surely?

I doubt it, the club more than likely will have to play an away game in Sydney in the majority of years.

The Club has stated that its goal is to have all 11 home games back in Melb by 2010 so this doesn't alter that goal.

"For the next three years we need to play two home games interstate," said Smorgon. "We've pushed as hard as we can to make both those games back-to-back in Darwin but that's not going to happen.

Realistically, I very much doubt that we be in a position to do so at that time. The club has a debt of about $5m, is receiving ASD funding of $1.7m, last year recorded a loss of $480,000 and wasn't able to afford, without the efforts of a generous supporter, even one rookie this year. There will have to be a mega financial turnaround in the next three years for it to occur. If the AFL is providing ongoing additional support of anywhere near $1.7m in 2010 then they will probably insist that we play a couple of games in the ACT and NT. Still just like 26,000 members its good to have difficult goals as sometimes they can be acheived.

Sydney will play one away game a year against us or Melbourne. We might actually end up playing Sydney twice in one year - once in Sydney and once, of all places, in Melbourne!

Another million a year will help.

West Coast chairman Dalton Gooding said yesterday that the AFL was likely to announce a $1 million a year dividend over the next five years for each club at a presidents' meeting in Melbourne tomorrow.

"The AFL executive originally offered $200,000 per club per year and the AFL presidents demanded $2 million per club per year," Gooding said. "If I was a betting man, I would suggest the final amount approved by the AFL Commission would be $1 million per year per club over the next five years."

That'll cover the additional rise in the salary cap...

Dry Rot,

We understand your frustration and as we have already stated this topic will be raised when the new website contract is negotiated. However, we are not likely to have an outcome until the end of the year. Until then it is likely Telstra Bigpond will not be changing their policies.

The additional salary cap (I think) is about $450K.

Doesn't the AFL guarantee 94% of player payments are covered by normal dividends?

No, this allocation is outside the salary cap which is covered by the AFL
