According to SEN, Smith has been elevated off the rookie list and will play for Carlton against Richmond.
Boy I'm very happy for the kid, I'd reckon the week leading up to your first game is one of the best week's in a young player's life, esp one who has come off the rookie list.
Good luck Jesse :thumbsu:

Good luck to Jesse.

He deserves his spot and will be a good Bluebagger.

Good luck to Jesse if this is true. It's a pity i'm not going to be able to make it to the game. I would have liked to have seen how the kid goes.

According to the Carlton website Jessie Smith will play against Richmond, I really hope the young fella goes alright and Pagan plays him for the last 3 rounds. I actually thought he was going to play last week since he was named on the extended bench.

Yeah he was doing alot of centre bounce work at training, looked like they were getting him ready. One who Im really keen on promoting is Ryan Jackson, has a Walker type build and seems to train very well. Whats he been like for the bullants?

- heard a whisper today that Fev is not playing on the weekend, could be disastrous........

Pagan says he is 100% and will be playing, nothing to worry about there.

Good luck to Jesse, hope he gets game time for starters.

I've seen Jackson a few times. He certainly knows what to do when he gets the ball, likes to run, and has good execution. I haven't seen him play a blinder yet though - others may have. He definitely looks a likely type.

Good luck Jesse! You've earnt your chance, now make the most of it.

Who does he look like when playing, murph, kade etc ??

I'm not sure he looks like anyone else on our list. He'd have similar speed to Murphy so not a speedster, but good enough. He's taller, but I don't know how strong he is overhead. He makes good decisions at VFL level, but how he'll go under senior pressure we can only wait and see. He's a right footer, and a good kick. Has onballer written all over him.

Him or Blackwell I'd say. Single figure stats & limited ground time often means back to the 2's.

Would be a bit dissapointed if Russell was dropped again, however he again shirked a few contests on the weekend.

I dont think it is because he is soft, we have all seem he do some very courageous things - however V Hawthorn he pulled up at 2 contests in a small period of time and unfortunately it isnt the first time... something he has to get rid of now!!

Somewhat of a surprise to see him do that again.

Although, he'd be my choice to be the omitted to make wat for Jesse. He needs some solid game time, and he'll get that with the Ants.

I think a stint in the two's will do him the world of good. That and a solid pre-season in the gym. Body is not big enough for AFL yet and although he looks to have good skills, he backs away from contests and looks like he craps his pants everytime he is in a contested situation.

Will be a great player for us but needs to bulk up a bit first.

can they drop bannister already he is shocking, and also Setanta needs more time for the Bullants, can barely kick the ball. Jesse Smith looks the goods though!Jordan Russel will get there eventually, should be a quality player, his got speed we need.

Doesn't Blackwell need one more game for the Ants to qualify for the finals? Or was that Bentick? One of them I believe. So let's not overreact at whoever is dropped.

Couldn't be Bentick, pretty sure hes played just about every game this year.
Hope he doesn't get dropped. He didn't have a great game last week but has been pretty good throughout the year.

Must be Blackwell. One more game to be eligible for the VFL finals. Leaving him out for one game won't hurt.

Carlos I agree with (he is improving every week tho) , but Bannister has been nowhere near shocking.

Have you actually been watching the Blues over the last 2-3 weeks. Setanta's kicking on both sides of the body have improved immeasurably. He gave off a couple of great passes on the left foot against the Hawks and he is mostly a one grab player below the knees. His apprenticeship with the Bullants is finished. His education from now on will come in the AFL.

Good on you Jesse, have a good debut and kick some ass.
Now If I was coach it would have to be Russell out for Jesse.
Sorry but he has had his chance.

It's a shame you can't see this kid play. He is a Bentick type player. I hope he see's the year out for the Blues.

Agreed, he could be dropped back to the magoos for vigour. Has lapsed since his promising start.

good call

4 extra games and a finals serious won't hurt either of them at all
vfl is still senior footy and the pressure will increase for the finals

He made 1 error last week by foot, every other kick was absolutely perfect. I think Setanta has been good so far, and I like the look of him a hell of a lot. A great spoiler of the ball and is very attacking.

I think he gets a bad wrap mainly because he looks so clumsy and awkward. But then so does Dustin Fletcher.

Those changes are fair enough i guess, in some ways a bit disapointing to see those 2 young players out, however they havent had much game time and will get more of an opportunity at VFL level. Will be interesting to see how Smith goes, i was kinda hoping that Blackwell or Russell would receive a rising star nomination before the years out. Hopefully Smith can achieve this!

Has Russell qualified for the finals at VFL level? It'd be good if we can get those fringe players involved in, what likely will be, a premiership.
