I won't bother writing out a report, I'm sure we all read the saints fan forum. :)
Anyway just a few of my own observations :-
- Milne was sensational and looks set for a big year in the midfield
- Nick Dal Santo was easily the pick of the draftees, with Xavier Clarke, Matthew Maguire and Leigh Montagna all impressing. The first two should play in our Wizard Home Loans game next week and hopefully Maguire will get a run too.
- Max played up forward and took some nice marks. Sadly his kicking for goal left a bit to be desired.
- Trent Knobel played at full forward early and kicked a few goals.
- Daniel Wulf kicked 3 goals and could have a good season.
- Aussie Jones looked good through the centre and from half back.
- Spider was dominant in the ruck
- Gehrig continues to be a rock in defence however he continues to tease us with flashes of brilliance when played up the ground. Is he best as a defender or a forward?
- A helmet-less Burke showed all that he could became a very dangerous small forward and just as importantly will team with Hamill to stop at nothing to keep the ball in the forward line at all costs.
- Steve Lawrence has got through pre-season unscathed and looks set for a good season. Cripps too has had a good pre-season and most importantly is injury free.
- The only listed players who didn't play were Harvey, Hayes, Callaghan, Koschitzke, Oliver and Ball.
- The crowd was excellent. I would have thought somewhere between 1500 and 2000 people but it's been estimated to be as high as 3500 from some forum members. The bad news is that some of us had to line up for well over a quarter to get our free sausage. :)
- All in all it was a very good night. The crowd was well beyond expectation and the game was of a reasonable standard. Let's hope we have a great season and push for a finals berth.
