UNASSUMING West Coast defender Darren Glass is coach John Worsfold's tip to be the Eagles club champion this year - and not Chris Judd, Ben Cousins or Daniel Kerr.
The midfield trio have taken their already stellar standards to a new level in the past three weeks, picking up a staggering 279 possessions between them in the wins over Adelaide, St Kilda and the Kangaroos.
Factor 14 goals into the mix and pundits are making the Eagles flag favourites, with a trip to the traditionally happy hunting ground of the Gabba to come this weekend.
However, despite all the midfield heroics, Worsfold named his 25 year-old key defender when asked about possible winners of the club's best-and-fairest award for 2006.
``Those three have missed games. I'd be confident that Darren Glass has played as consistently and as well as those guys this year,'' Worsfold said.
``I think he has improved again this year, he has got more improvement left. All facets of his game, his use of the ball, his decision making, his body use, his contested marking all those things (have got better).
``I am not one for comparing names, but I would say right now he is a very good full back in this competition.''
Glass has almost exclusively been given the key role in the Eagles' back line, with the nullifying job on St Kilda's Fraser Gehrig two weeks ago increasing calls for possible All-Australian selection.
As well as conceding just 33 goals to his direct opponents, Glass has also given just nine free kicks away in 18 games.
Worsfold said although Glass may not elicit the same headlines as his all-action midfield, he was thought of very highly around the AFL.
``I have got no say in (All-Australian selection) at all, but if he deserves it and he gets selected that would be a great honour for him,'' Worsfold said.
``From his peers there is a (massive regard) for him as well.''
As for his trio of superstars, Worsfold said they also deserved the adulation they were currently receiving, even if he thought their recent efforts were normal - for them.
``They are all talented footballers and we know how they can play. They haven't really shown us anything new,'' Worsfold said.
``They deserve every accolade and every bit of hype they get, because they are very professional in the way they prepare to play the game and they are extremely talented players.''
West Coast is considering a number of options to replace Daniel Chick for the Brisbane game on Sunday, the first game Chick will miss through suspension in his 227-game career.
Shannon Hurn, Drew Banfield, Brett Jones, Mark LeCras, Matt Rosa and Matt Priddis are all in the mix to play.
Forward Ashley Hansen is also likely to miss, with a problem related to a cyst on the back of his knee rather than a torn calf as first feared.
