What.....like Dixon?

Kouta was in better form last year than in any of his previous years after the knee injuries. You can't buy the experience he brings to the midfield.
I think he should handover the captaincy to Lance though.

Valid point but still think he should make room for your young guns like Wiggins, Blackwell and co.

On Wiggins I agree - and it supports the following point.
I might be the only one who thinks that we should'nt push harder with the youth policy.
No one should just step aside to allow some kid to take his spot. These young guys need to earn it, like Simo and Wiggins have had to.
Blackwell has to earn his spot, and work his ass off when he gets there to keep it. If Kouta is forced out of the team next year because Smith/Jackson/Flint are still burning it up in the two's - great. Thats what will make us a great club again - not just hand some guy a spot because "he's waited long enough".
Case in point is Hartlett and Livo. Many people have said give em a go. Livo has had plenty of shots and hasn't done enough to keep his spot.
Hartlett hasn't produced anything of worth (I know he has had injuries), but he has to force his way into the side - he will then value his spot and work hard to keep it.

Play on Kouta - teach Bentick/Murphey/Gibbs (please, please) how to win a hard footy while being accountable for your own man -who else will be that role model?

Ok, you have convinced me - Keep Kouta in the team for another year.....as long as he keeps out of the way of Wiggins form

I really thought he'd retire at the end of the year. I just thought his body had been through enough and time to spend some more time with his family. At least the kids will be able to spend another 12 months learning from the great man.

He is handing over the captaincy.
Lance must be the frontrunner - will Fev get Vice or Stevo serve another apprenticeship

Don't mind that much as long as his form warrants his place in the side. If his form drops off consistently, he should be dropped as Lappin was. We don't want any passengers in the side.

We are going to struggle to delist enough players this year with DeLuca and Teague contracted. McGrath, Bannister, Wiggins and Bryan may be in trouble despite showing something.

You really think Wiggins is in trouble?
I can see him playing on ball a lot next year if he gets his fitness up - and gives us another forward (who can't kick) option.
I think Wiggins has really stood up since regaining his spot this year and was unlucky to get a mild hammy against Melb or he would still be in.
We need a new no. 1 Ruck - can see some moves with Gardiner, Bryan will be a good no. 2/forward option. De Luca should be traded while he's still got potential - McLaren needs to step up and take his chances.
McGrath needs to go, and Bannister will struggle for games next year if we get Gibbs.
Chambers must be moving on this year as well - grerat motor, pity about the skills and speed.

He doesn't deserve a cent over the $200K they first offered. If they caved into Allison and gave him more, then me we might as well go back to the days of Elliot and co.

His performance on the ground does not warrant more and his manager's trashing of the club in the media should cost him $50k.

Wiggins deserves to stay and I would like to see Bannister and Bryan play the last 3 games with a few to keeping them if they continue showing something.

Teague, Deluca, McLaren and Saddington are contracted and they are the ones more likely to not make it.

We will want to use #1, #17, #18, #34 and #50 in this deep draft plus the #1 in the PSD. We will also want to elevate anywhere between 1 and 3 rookies.

So we need to delist 7-9. Davies - gone. Sporn - gone. Livingston - gone. Chambers - gone. Longmuir - gone. Prendergast - gone. That leaves 1-3 more out of Wiggins, Banno and Bryan IMO. The rest are safe.

If we trade others, then we will use the draft pick we get for them so that doesn't clear any space. Unless we trade two players for one pick, this is the way it will go.

We will elevate Smith or get rid of him altogether as he has had his two rookie years. We also want to try Flint and Jackson I believe.

Unless the project player Raso is delisted, I'm not sure what else we can do.

If you can't find space for Wiggo, we (Hawks) will take him off your hands. Have a feeling he will emerge as a gun player next year.

We may opt to delist Raso and rookie him, ie what the dockers did with Ryan Crowley. I feel we may elevate one rookie also, another possibility is that we may trade off a player or 2 for perhaps an earlier pick. I guess if Smith really shows something in the last 3 rounds we may consider elevating him and one of Flint or Jackson.

Think Kouta's decision and more importantly the reasons for continuing are a great positive for the club. I feel that Kouta's performances have been hampered by his opwn expectations. He is still fit and still has the capacity to play outstanding footy imo.

With a substantially less salary and no captaincy he should have far less expectation pressures. I expect him to be a very solid contributor next year.

He should have retired at the end of this season

Struggling now , I expect Kouta to retire half way through next season

I reckon Kouta has done the right thing here. His leadership on the ground is what is needed for our youth to progress into experienced AFL Footballers. Its the right decision as the majority of the Carlton players look up to Kouta, and he displays great on-field leadership.

He has played really well since coming back from the broken hand as well.

The big question is will Pagan play on.

Unable to post an original thread. I have heard directly from a Western Bulldogs past player that 'Mark Harvey' met with 6 Carlton Power brokers 2 nights ago.

Could be a rumour, nonetheless interesting? Could we pay out his contract? would we want to?

Outstanding news, and a real positive for the Carlton Football Club:thumbsu:

We are going to delist plenty of others who have had their chances- Livingston, Prendergast, Sporn, Davies, Bannister (hopefully), Chambers- all gone, thankfully. Kouta is worth all of those put together. He is a fantastic training tool for the young blokes and his form more than warrants another season. If he provides his usual 15-20 odd possessions per game, he will be fantastic value.

Excellent news.

Kouta still does some hard stuff and can take a good mark in the forward line.
Lance should deffinitely get the captaincy next year!

To have Kouta there at the club, everyday, will be just great for this years draftees and our youngsters.

Put yourself in the shoes of a young player being drafted to Carlton this year and yourself walking it to the club and becoming mates with Kouta.

I just hope Kouta can get the ball next year.

I think it'll be good if Kouta plays, albeit off the bench. Have him play a 5 minute burst each quarter and he could be the difference in some games.

Plus he's one of our greats, last premiership player on the list, and having him their still brings some value.

Go back and watch one of our best opening quaters for the season which was against the weagles. Then tell me again about Wiggles.

Has anyone here watched Kouta for the last couple of games ? He has been GREAT. HE is doing so much more than SO MANY other players. Please learn some expectation management.

Quotes from Kouta from the Herald Sun

``I'm Carlton through and through and just to have this whole saga out of the way is a relief.

``I love the navy Blues jumper and now I just want to repay the faith that so many people have shown in me.''

After reading that I hope the rest of the team does. Love that Navy Blue Jumper!

I think that it is excellent that a great son of the Carlton Football Club has decided to keep going for another year.

I think that Lance should get the captains job and Kouta should be made the vice for his final year...

The support that he can give to the current captain would be awesome.

I think that they should also start getting Kouta to coach the up and coming young midfielders in how to get the hard balls with a mind to moving him sideways into a coaching position at the end of next season when he retires.

As for that crap about him maybe playing on after 2007, get Braddles in there to chat to him about retirement. Kouta is nowhere near the fitness fanatic that braddles was and doesnt have anywhere near the career lifespan that braddles had.

All in all it is good for the club that we retained a member of the leadership group for another 12 months

No doubt Mark Harvey would love to move back to Vic, now that his WA attempt at a senior coaching role has fallen through.
Will not replace Pagan for many reasons, the least of which is that the club would have to pay out Pagan for two more years. Not quite Blight at the Saints but not far off - shear stupidity.
plus he has a proven record with younger teams, he just inherited a crap list, a 5-10 year penalty for our own corruption, and a decade of trading early picks for dud players:
Craig Davenport for pick 19 (Barry Hall)
Mick Mansfield for pick 35 (Paul Chapman)..........I won't go on (sob sob)

Just on Kouta, I was watching the 1995 Grand Final last night (which I watch every now and then to remind myself of how good we were) and some of the things that Kouta could do just astounded me. The way he moved and picked the ball up in one hand. It makes you think that if he hadn't have clashed knees with Jason Johnson on that fateful Friday Night in 2000 how good Kouta could have been??
