was able to hold up the banner on the ground, and got to stand in the guard of honour as he past the members, just a meter away from him ahh it was insane.

In the finest Port tradition of not accepting second best I got some encouragement from Pred to improve the quality of some of these pics. As suggested by him I've cropped the first pic here. (It's based on the original high resolution image rather than the lesser quality of the image you had to use, Pred).

Yours look a little faded on my screen Pred. Also I didn't want too much detail of the crowd but to give a feel for the occasion. Each to their own of course.

Yours look a little faded on my screen Pred. You're dead right, screen brightness is a big factor. Anyway at least we have both bases covered for those shots now :)

I think the occasion was handled with real style by the club. Just Gav with the kids going round without too much hoopla about how good he's been because we all know that anyway. An acknowledgement too of what he means to Essendon. I thought the commentary on the PA said just enough and we had some images on the big screen from Gavs career. Gav of course was very dignified and got the appopriate response from everyone there.

Very nice, top marks all round. You're not lucky enough to see too many like Gavin Wanganeen. Thanks for the memories mate. :thumbsu:

You know, I made a conscious decision to leave them a bit darker. Stop messing with my art! I'll not sell my soul. :D

I do like the black border.

If anyone wants the original images PM me. They're about 1.6 megs. Having said that I guess the club will probably be selling they're own pics which will undoubtedly be better quality

I've got a Canon Eos with various lenses. Being an SLR it's much easier to take good pics but the Nikon is very convenient.

I'm not really that fussed. I'm a canon DSLR user. Just a bit of fun rivalry.

Nothing really, I just prefer/Use Canon. I'm talking mainly about DSLR's.

I think I'm on the same page as you now PAFC. You were taking the *****!

My EOS is twenty years old and is a film camera.

Yes I didn't either. Thanks. Very nice pics. :thumbsu: The timing with the players about to burst through was great.

I see the prison bar uniform got on the banner too and at a game against Collingwood. :thumbsu:

I take it thats good??

:D

Im pretty much still a digital noob, and ISO settings is one thing I dont know a lot about...

I took some another night at a lower setting and they were pretty murky, so took a punt and cranked it up this time! Higher ISO means a grainier shot though doesnt it?

Glad some people like them anyway... I was leaning on the reserve umpires box and just got lucky! :thumbsu:

I've had my digital camera for a few years now but rarely shoot outside in the dark so hadn't bothered to brush up on ISO settings. I'm still stuck in the mindset of film speeds. Having seen the quality of your pics I'll certainly take on board the comments made about the darkness of my pics by Pred and others.

Great pics Toots :thumbsu:

I've had my digital camera for a few years now but rarely shoot outside in the dark so hadn't bothered to brush up on ISO settings. I'm still stuck in the mindset of film speeds.....ISO is a measurement of film speed although there are different standards for film cameras (http://www.iso.org/iso/en/CatalogueDetailPage.CatalogueDetail?CSNUMBER=11948&ICS1=37&ICS2=40&ICS3=20) and digital cameras (http://www.iso.org/iso/en/CatalogueDetailPage.CatalogueDetail?CSNUMBER=37777).

:) Yeah I know that bro! :)

It's just that I've never bothered to work out how to change the settings on my camera. I'm still living in a mental world where you chose your film speed according to what shots you're planning to take, then shove it into your camera, not wade through menus or find the right knob out of about 20 I also can't work out why I can't send text messages at the moment. :o

Thanks for the links though. I'll pull my finger out and improve my digital skills thanks to this thread. Actually I've been planning to buy a decent scanner so I can transfer my film into digital. Now I've finished my bookshelf I'll have time for that and the garden. Can anyone recommend a good one? I don't care too much about the speed, just the quality. Once done I'll post a couple of wildlife shots from Africa just to prove that I can take a good pic. :p

:) Yeah I know that bro! :)Sorry mate, wasn't meaning to tell you how to suck eggs.

I still use my Canon EOS for "serious" photography and use the digital for "happy snaps" but as the price of digital SLR's drops I can see myself going away from film altogether.

... I also can't work out why I can't send text messages at the moment......If you work out how to send text messages from your digital camera let me know :)

......well I can take pictures with my mobile phone so it is only logical ;)

Think of ISO as light sensitivity in digitals. Digital SLR's have much less ness at any given ISO when compared to a point and shoot.
If you can't get the shutter speed you need by changing the aperture, up your ISO.
