He is dead to me!!!!!! I WAS a big fan of this man.
Tonight he was supporting Collingwood and wearing collingwood stuff.
I was disgusted by this and told him so aswell.
It was a very tough thing to witness.

Don't be too hard on him cba. He is a legend and he comes from a time when many Port people, myself included, supported Collingwood in the VFL because of the black and white magpies connection. I switched when we got our own AFL side but I can understand fans who stuck with the pies.
How did he look anyway? I haven't seen him since he was coaching and getting a kick for the Ramblers.

c_b_a that title is ****ing disgraceful. Scott Hodges broke his body for the PAFC over his illustrious career and if he chooses to support Collingwood, well that's his decision. I don't think Port supporters need to see a headline that makes us think something terrible has happened to a Port legend just because you're not happy about who he chooses to support in the AFL.

Agree that the thread title is in poor taste - Mods should change it.....
I saw it and I went cold until I opened the thread.
This perpetuates a very interesting discussion about how traditional PAFC people see The Power and The Magpies. Much disagreement still and that will continue while there are many camps and aliegences.
I have friends who....
Love PAFC pre 1997 but hate the Power.
Love PAFC pre 1997 but love the Power and have disowned the Magpies.
Hate PAFC pre 1997 but love the Power.
Still follow both.
Interesting that this issue should be so divisive in what was always touted as a family club.

Have to agree.
Heart skipped a beat when I read this title.
Needs to be changed.
Still, I'm staggered that Scotty would barrack against Port Adelaide.
Then again, he never was the sharpest tool in the shed.

Sif say that this thread is in poor taste.....what the **** is Hodges doing in Collingwood gear?!?!?!?!?
Yep, thread title is a shocker, I too went cold until I opened it.
Also agree with Ford's remarks above.

Ok I would like to apologise for the name of the thread. I should have used better judgement. Still it made me feel sick to see him supporting Collingwood.

Lucky I missed the original title - would've struggled to find homes for the kittens I'd have given birth to.

It would be very odd to see Scotty Hodges in Collingwood gear, but what is worse is the fact that he once played for our arch enermy, the Adelaide Crows.
Geez, that is sad to hear. The ninth circle of hell is reserved for the traitors, Scottie.

Not once but twice. Robert Shaw lured him back for another dance in 96. Then they traded him to us in 97.

After everything Scott Hodges did for our club, I wouldn't even jokingly put his name and traitor in the same sentence.
The only reason he wound up at the crows was the Vic clubs who were interested in him weren't willing to draft him because he made his loyalty to Port quite clear to them.

Last time i checked we live in Australia one of if not the greatest places to live, where every man & woman young or old can wear whatever clothes they want to among other things such as freedom of speech etc.
If Scottie Hodges wanted to wear pink with yellow polka dots it wouldn't bother me as the guy gave everything he had when he put on the Port Adelaide jumper & that's what i'll remember him for.

only reason we picked him up in 96 was because we thought you would give us something for him in 97....:D
Tell me. What would anyone say if they saw our legend Wangas wearing Essendon colours??
Absouletly nothing as he is an ex Bombers player.
As much as it angered a lot of supporters to see Scott in Collingwood colours, he has as much right to support who he wants. He just chooses to support one or our arch enermies :thumbsd:

I wonder if this is a case of our club not treating our past players with the respect that they deserve.
Last night's tribute for Gav was fantastic, lets do it again with players from the original squad this Sunday for 10 years in the AFL.
Most of these guys never got a goodbye they deserve.
I am not going to have a go at Al, because I share his frustration.

Perhaps he doesn't see the Power as the same Port he played for in the SANFL?
I know a few people who are long time Port fans but don't like the Power.

How is he a traitor? He might've followed Collingwood as a kid and stuck with them. Just because there is a team from Adelaide in the AFL, it doesnt mean he has to follow them.
You people turn on your own way too quickly and with too much zeal.

This is a pretty good point - Scotty's whole AFL experience was far from what he deserved from both the Crows and the Power. He was a victim of age, politics, injury, and personal trials and tribulations. I really think he has more of an affinity with the Port Magpies and of course the Ramblers.
Hodges 153!

Ah, so that was you that came up at half time.....
Its not like he was standing out there holding their banner up. He had a polo top under a trench coat ffs....
If you had looked closely, you would have seen how worried the great man was as to what you thought.
Like he told you, he's always supported the "black & white"...
If it guts you that much I presume you wont be watching replays of 8 grand final wins he had a not insignificant part in.
You spoke to a true legend of our club, and dis-respected him instead of giving him the THANKS he really deserves.

Funnily enough the people in front of us on Friday night were all Port supporters in the SANFL, 4 followed Port and the other followed Collingwood as they had since before Port Power was even thought of, although she did have a power scarf in her pocket :p
But its an interesting thought, Scott didnt play much for the Power did he? But would be interested to see how many support the club they played for and how many go back to the club they supported before playing AFL

I hope we don't have to have this discussion all over again but whatever people's loyalties may be the simple fact is that PAFC stopped fielding a team in the SANFL at the end of 1996 and instead began fielding a team in the AFL. Loyalties can be a tangled thing and I can imagine that as a Port supporter you might well go for Collingwood in the VFL.
For mine Collingwoods opposition to Port's entry in 1990 would have turned me off them.

The fact that the words "Port Adelaide" could be substituted for "PAFC" and reverse the meaning of that part of your post, shows what a fine and legalistic distinction is being made here. To people in the outer ii does not rate as an issue. We have the best of both worlds.:thumbsu:
My 5 cents: Get over it ;)

The guy is my hero. Certainly wouldnt be calling him a traitor.
I'm with you. I was really hoping when he got his opportunity to play for us in the AFL he would finally realise that great talent and potential that Graham Cornes wasted so foolishly while he was at the Clowns.
From memory he fell victim to the same sort of injury as Bowen Lockwood? Either way, one preseason game for us was a pretty disappointing end to his career.
Calling him a traitor is a bit rough.
Being a West Aussie, this phenomonen is new to me. I would have assumed that every Port Magpies supporter would have followed the Power and vice versa. But obviously not.
I'm not criticising Scott Hodges, but it does seem very disappointing that a Port legend wouldn't support his own club in the AFL also.

Don't subscribe to the theory that Hodges' AFL career was destroyed by Cornes.
Scotty battled with form and fitness in his first year and a half with the Crows.
Regained both midway through 1992, went to the goalsquare and had a great second half of the year.
Remember the 11 he kicked against Geelong at Footy Park? Magic.
Then came the 'shootout' between Hodges and Modra in the '93 pre-season.
Unfortunately, Scotty got injured. Missed round one. Modra kicked ten and never looked back.
Modra kicked 129 goals that year - who would you pick?
If Scotty was serious about playing in the AFL, he would have nominated for the draft in 1993 or 1994.
