View Full Version : Almost
Almost like 2000 again.
Pity there aren't six or seven games left, if there were I'd say that by the end of it we would feel much the same as we did at the end of 2000.
We will fall a couple of games short of that mark so I do not expect next year to be like 2001 but geesh it feels pretty good.

A couple of important reasons why we made a big jump in 2001 was;
1. Our skills improved and our goal conversion rate improved dramatically over the previous 4 years.
2. Apart from Lade's broken leg and Tredder's dislocation in the Wizzard cup, we had no other significant injuries in the first 8 to 10 weeks of the season.
Given the same two situations again in 2007, I can't see why we don't have a lot better year than this year. If Tredders, Cornes x 2, Burgoyne x 2, Lade, Brogan, Wakelin, Wilson, can play 20 of 22 games each, and the kids around them can continue to improve and show plenty of run, winning 14/15 games is not that unrealistic. Tough but not impossible, especially given we have lost 3 of the last 6 games by 10 points or less.

I would've said the main reason we did what we did in 2001 was because we had a bunch of young guys who had been playing together for four years and were starting to get the hang of this AFL thing. We're more around the 97/98 mark.

It's a very similar situation - particularly the finishing, but IMO the current core group is miles in front of the 97/98 group.

Agree Natman, the group is well in front of the group in 97/98 because there is a more of an even mixture of experince and youth that have been around the club for years. I think next year will be a year very similar to the dogs year of either this year or last year. I can see a lot of similarities atm in the number of youth/old guys being played and the way of footy we play. Hopefully we will be better than the dogs though.

That is the point IMO as well, our best players are in their prime atm.

And our soon to be best player in Shaun Burgoyne is only 23 atm. Imagine when he's 25-26. Best player in the AFL by far.

Yep Amy, the middle daughter. Her older sister Rachel is expecting twins I think (but Rachel's not married to a footballer).

Suspense breaks the water
August 19, 2006 12:15am
Article from: The Advertiser
COULD it have been the suspense of Port's gutsy win over the Western Bulldogs last weekend?
Whatever the reason, Amy Phillips' water broke not long after the Power slugged it out for a much needed victory in Darwin last Saturday.
Her partner, Power sensation Shaun Burgoyne, jumped on the first flight possible out of Darwin, at 1am.
He was somewhat bleary-eyed when he arrived at Calvary Hospital close to 9am on Sunday.
He need not have rushed. Ky James Burgoyne didn't arrive until 7.10pm on Tuesday - coincidentally, just hours before Crows player Scott Welsh's baby, Tyler Shane Welsh, came into the world. Born at 35 weeks, Ky is going to spend a few weeks in hospital "fattening up" before heading home

I am only guessing but the Aboriginal name for Pelican Flats is Ky-yee-bah meaning a place for games, which might be apt.
