Does anyone else agree that tonight is a good test for Grant Thomas? We are going to need to be playing our best footy so it will be intersting to see if Grant can get us up and about. Also with rain looming it will be intersting to see hoe he adjusts if it does rain. If he does maange to help us get a win I think it will be time for people to finally stop criticing him.

Is a ten goal loss enough to stop criticing him?

Well, we didn't get a win and we were outcoached I thought. People definately won't stop criticing him after this and probably should get a bit of criticism for tonight. Wasn't much we could do with our backline in his defense. But I thought Riewodlt had to play closer to goal and there were times when Gehrig was on the bench which I though was a bad decision if he wasn't hurt or anthing.

Hopefully, he can get us up for next week, which he has proven to be able to do fairly well. I'm not going to go call for his head, but he was outcoached today but that happens. I still think he is a good coach and he can again prove himself by getting us up for next week.

He's not a good coach, he's a mate of the president who was gifted the gig when Blight was sacked. You have a dearth of talent to burn yet continually fall short at the business end because you have a businessman with no footy smarts. Just hope for your sake the club can see this fact and get rid of him asap.

Thanks for the kind words - I'm not here to sh*t stir, am just sick of his lame excuses and business coaching talk. All people i know who barrack for the Saints agree - do you honestly think he can take the saints to a flag?

You are welcome to your opinion Hawk and I must commend you on your timing.

I suppose when you hear the same thing said from opposition supporters a million times the novelty of answering the question is lost.

I think you'll find the underlying factor as to why you hear this so often is that the Saints should be the Victorian front runners and supporters of clubs who aren't in contention want to see the next best thing. I'm frustrated for you lot - again i'm not here to rub it in.

See ya.

one question for you hawk has your wonderful coach got you intothe finals? Grant Thomas has got his team into the final 3 years in a row, If youdont like reading about our club or coach.. turn the page...simple really

I just don't think we are as good as people think.

Realistically few people thought we would win tonight so I'm not surprised about that but I wasn't expecting us surrender so meekly.

At least the pressure is off us now. Most observers will have us significantly behind Adelaide, West Coast, Sydney and Fremantle at the very least. Possibly even behind the other three finalists too now. The return of Hamill and the increased match fitness of a potential match winner like Kosi will make a massive difference. We are a far better proposition at home and whilst it would be nice to have some momentum moving into the finals, as supporters we can only hope that the team starts to play their best footy in a couple of weeks when the real stuff starts.

You're entitled to ask your question but you probably won't get a straight answer tonight and if you're any kind of footy fan you would understand why.

You still haven't answered my question panthers.

This suggests you either agree with me or don't have an opinion, which I doubt.

As for Clarko, he's working with a list similar to yours in 2002 - give it time.

Hawk, I think he can take the Saints to a flag. His effort to get us to two preliminary finals in a row and possibly three should not be underestimated. I don't think there is many other coaches going around that could be looking at getting their team into a third consecutive preliminary final.

I believe that the biggest factor in winning a premiership is luck. If you have good luck and get all your players fit and on the park you have such a bigger advantage. Just look at Sydney last year. They had fantastic luck with a list that probably wasn't in the best two and won the flag. The coaches role in a premiership is big but probably not as big as some people think.

I for one was very happy when m blight got the flick...he was not for us..in my opinion..and toanswer your question hawks yes i do think Grant Thamas can get us to a flag...we just need a decent run with injuries to our key players

Are there qualifications for AFL coaches....? Clarkson's being a pretty average footballer who switched clubs and hit someone in London....? Roos seem to be pretty good last year and his qualifications would be.....? Sheedy I heard was a good plumber once....

People are missing the point on this whole St.Kilda debate.

The biggest indictment on Thomas is not the quality of the top 10 Saints players who are cream of the crop, but that he has failed to develop the bottom 20 players on the list to be good enough to win a flag.

Yes, they've had injuries, but in a game like afl, injuries are a matter of fact. And injuries are even more telling when the depth of the list is compromised, and that is Thomas' biggest failure to date.

In summary it can be said that he is good at man managing quality players, but not good with the 2nd tier players.

Fail!

And Panthers....get some sense into ya.

Prelims this and prelims that....its a matter of not reaching our potential.

im sure anyone could coach our list to the finals...we should be reaching for the stars but infact we are only reaching the moon (and saints fans are proad of this????)

BTW we lost that second prelim solely due to tactics

I dont care how many premiership we end up winning (if we do) with GT its a matter that we could do so much more with a Wallace, Eade, Matthews, ect.

Wake up Stkilda supporters and find the disaster that is before us.

I think you are overestimating our list Spinner. It is arguably the best list in the comp but not the best by miles as you seem to suggest. A team or a coach can't be called a failure just because they haven't won a flag. Winning the flag is a hard thing to do and not something you can expect of a team.
