Once again, a best on performance and 42 possessions! That is phenomenal in a game of footy. He has average something like 31 touches each game this year.. why hasn't he been promoted to the ones!?
Probably because there are so many players of a similar ilk, ie. Kelly, Ling, Enright, Corey, etc, etc. If Ling and Byrnes don't come up for next week Koula may be an outside chance for a senior berth. His form sure warrants it.
Does anyone know how Kelly went in the VFL yesterday? And would it be worth it for Geelong to draft James Byrnes with a late round draft pick, a bit like they did with Egan two years ago? Never seen the guy play a bad game in the VFL, and he has played at the highest level before.

Its not as if these players are all in the greatest form though. How many times does a player like Kelly or Byrnes get called up ahead of Koula despite his superior performances in the 2s.

Got too many slow midfielders with shotty disposal.
Koula shall be delisted in 2006.

Have to agree, unfortunately. I like the guy, but just not good enough at the top level.

Agreed - he will be on the scrapheap. Seems like a good fella but just isn't good enough to play at the top level consistently.
Hopefully he has a VFL medallion to bow out with!

Those two are both different players then what Koula is. And we need byrnes in for speed.

Long term future - who is more likely to play a part in the next 7-8 years?

Egan was 20-21 when he was drafted. He had being playing Junior tennis at a very high level and hadn't come through the system like most other draftees.
James Byrne would be in his late twenties and played for Adelaide and Sydney 2's some years ago. A very good VFL player but it would be a miracle if he was drafted.

You've ripped him off
Cat midfielder Paul Koulouriotis had 47 possessions.
How many of those hit their targets......

Exactly....which is why he never gets a game.
It's still a problem whenever I see him in the VFL.

I doubt he is tradeable. If he is good enough , then perhaps we would be better of trading somebody with more cred. and keep Paul around.
I'm not sure what his contract situation is like, but if the feeling around the club is that they are willing to part with Koula, I can understand the hesitancy to give him any more games ahead of contracted (younger) players. That's currently though.
As for previous weeks, it's anybody's guess (as per usual). I know the club is loathe, for whatever reason, to follow the VFL form of certain players as any indicator, but Koula has put his hand up more than once. Given how unspectacular our midfield has been this year anyway (and how polar opposite the VFL seems to be travelling), it certainly is a good question to be asking.
Would be nice to hold onto though, albeit for stock-up reasons more than anything.

James Byrne was interviewed by the ABC after a match and made it clear that he was happy where he was - captain of a succesful team and with a good day job in Melbourne. He's to old to be drafted anyway - what would be interesting to see is if Koula is delisted will the VFL team try and pick him up, especially as Davenport seems likely to be drafted?

What does Paul Koulouritis need to do?
He needs to start calling a up a few recruiting officers and letting them know he is available. Doesn't look good for him.

you might find that Paul he will go back to his junior club Keilor Park in the Essendon District Football League and play with his brother and also get a bit of $$ for playing at a local level.

i think his situation is similar to thurleys this time last year - not a bad player but no senior spot in that position available. therefore its in his best interests to try and head to another club so he can get more of a chance.
